Beautiful scenery all around

Dispersed camping just off the road. Room for 5 or more tents. 38.48069 -109.68732.

This is near potash mine/processing. The mine property has no trespassing signs. Many dispersed camp sight near this one, but I think this one has the best views.

Perfect

Anywhere on potash road is the perfect free camping. Very close to amazing climbing. Hot during the summer like everywhere in southern Utah. No signs that day free camping but, it is fact free. Dispersed great for big groups or all alone. Dogs allowed. Bring lots of water. Don’t forget to look at the stars at night.

Is this legal?

No clear signage indicating that this is BLM land or that dispersed camping is allowed. In fact, there are lots of private property signs, tho (I think?) Those only pertain to what's on either side of the road. Parked overnight in a pullout with no problems, probably the only one around for miles. Overall, a little uneasy that I was going to get busted but worked out great!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Potash Road dispersed camping located near Moab?

Potash Road dispersed camping is located just outside of Moab, Utah. The road follows along the Colorado River with multiple pullouts and areas where camping is permitted. The camping areas are situated on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land. Some specific coordinates for one of the better sites are approximately 38.48069, -109.68732. The location is near the potash mine/processing facility, and while you'll see private property and no trespassing signs related to the mine property, the dispersed camping areas are separate from these restricted zones.

What are the rules and regulations for dispersed camping on Potash Road?

Dispersed camping on Potash Road follows standard BLM regulations, though signage indicating camping rules is limited. Camp only in established pullouts and previously used areas to minimize environmental impact. Pets are allowed, but should be kept under control. Pack out all trash and waste - improper waste disposal has led to temporary closures in the past. No dumping of RV tanks is permitted on the ground. Respect private property boundaries, particularly around the potash mine areas which have no trespassing signs. There are no designated facilities, so campers must be self-sufficient and practice Leave No Trace principles.

Is dispersed camping on Potash Road free?

The free camping makes it an attractive option for visitors to Moab looking to avoid paid campgrounds. What is the best time of year to go dispersed camping on Potash Road?

Spring and fall are the ideal seasons for camping on Potash Road. Summer temperatures in southern Utah can be extremely hot, making camping uncomfortable without shade or air conditioning. The area has minimal natural shade, so prepare accordingly if camping during warmer months. Winter can be cold but is less crowded. Spring offers pleasant temperatures and wildflowers, while fall provides cooler weather and beautiful desert colors. Regardless of season, bring plenty of water as there are no water sources available at these dispersed sites.
