Three to four spots occupy the rim of the overlook, and spacing between them is closer than many dispersed areas. Driving further back along the road tends to yield more separation from other campers. Cell signal holds up well, which is worth noting for a free site this far from services. The area draws hikers and mountain bikers given its proximity to the Whirlwind trail system, and OHV access adds another reason campers stage trips from here.

Nearby developed options include Horsethief Campground about a mile to the west for campers who want a more structured setup.
