Quite a drive in

It was quite a drive in, we just got parked on the edge of the campsite as the smaller roads leading into the campsite looked a bit uneven for our campervan. You do drive passed a paid campsite initially, keep on driving. We had the place to ourselves.

Remote Camping Near arches

Great remote spot. Easy access via dirt road. Durwood around. Just past the paid camp site. Camped here twice now, will go back.

Great stay near canyonlands and dead horse point

Great find 10 min from canyonland and 15 from dead horse point state park! Turn off at the horsethieft campground and follow the gravel road back about 1.5 miles and you’ll start to see smaller turn offs. Found a spot with good privacy. Had 1 bar Verizon. Great for getting up early to catch a sunrise!

Dispersed camping outside Canyonlands

We found this spot from our Gaia app. Go past the established Horsethief paid campground and there are plenty of sites on both sides of a nice gravel/dirt road. Some deep sand on the road in places but easily passable with our Chevy van. Plenty of other folks camping here but we easily found a spot with some privacy. Dry camping. No water, trash or bathrooms. Pack in Pack out. Great spot for easy access to Canyonlands or Arches!

Hidden gem near Canyonlands

We checked out this BLM dispersed area based on the previous poster’s review and were not disappointed. We had reservations the following night at the Horsethief Group Sites, so were just looking for a place for a few early arrival folks to crash for the evening. We found the very first campsite (designated by a rock fire ring) to be empty and snagged it. There was a bunch of cut deadwood laying around (presumably to control brush fire risk), so we were able to build a fire in about 5 minutes. Super quiet. Pretty windy and dusty, but that’s to be expected. The Horsethief campsites are close by, so it would be easy to use their toilets and trash if needed. We will definitely use these sites again in the future given their solitude and proximity to Canyonlands and Arches.

Free alternative to Horsethief CG

The Mineral Point Road is a sandy graded road that goes way out to the west past Horsethief BLM developed CG. The BLM seems to have closed a couple of side spurs past Horsethief CG, and at about 1.2 miles from Hwy 313 the first side spur seems open to free dispersed camping. This side spur is about .6 mile past the Horsethief Group camp sites pod. Side spurs are sandy native surface, ungraded and can be rocky in sections. Most sites are suited to the overlander crowd but there are TT and RV sites out there also if you recon. Cell signal comes from the interstate north, so if you are higher up you may get cell signal. No water, toilets, or designated sites. Try to use previous camps if possible.
