Overlander dispersed only!

The Long Canyon road #135 used to allow camping at the rim but now that entire area is closed to camping. So back a ways and on BLM road #135 Long Canyon Well Road, there are still free dispersed sites. However, most side roads are rough sandy rocky narrow two-tracks that are ok for overlander types but NOT TTs or RVs. Note there are oil/gas wells in area and any good road likely ends at a oil/gas pad facility. Cell signal varies depending on location. Free dispersed, no water, trash or designated sites. Some State land mixed in also.

Nearby attractions include Arches National Park with its iconic sandstone formations, Canyonlands National Park featuring dramatic canyons and mesas, and Dead Horse Point State Park offering spectacular Colorado River views. Long Canyon Road (#135) features varying difficulty levels depending on which sections you traverse. The main road is generally passable for most vehicles, but accessing the dispersed camping areas can be challenging. Many side roads branching from Long Canyon Well Road are rough, sandy, rocky, and narrow two-tracks that are better suited for overlanding vehicles or those with higher clearance. During these seasons, daytime temperatures are moderate, typically ranging from 60-80°F, making outdoor activities comfortable. Summer months (June-August) can be extremely hot with temperatures frequently exceeding 100°F, requiring careful planning and adequate water supplies. Winter brings cold nights but milder days, with occasional snow possible at higher elevations. Fall provides beautiful desert colors while spring often features desert wildflowers.

Are there dispersed camping options along Long Canyon Road in Moab?

Yes, dispersed camping is available along BLM Long Canyon Well Road (#135). While camping at the rim area is no longer permitted due to closure, there are still free dispersed sites available further back along the main road. Remember to practice Leave No Trace principles and be prepared for self-sufficient camping with all necessary supplies.
