Best RV Parks & Resorts near Port Bolivar, TX

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Port Bolivar offers multiple RV parks with beachfront access and full hookups. Bolivar Peninsula RV Park features 130 sites with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections open year-round. Nearby, Beachside RV Park provides 46 concrete pads with both 30-amp and 50-amp service. Camp Margaritaville RV Resort Crystal Beach includes full hookups with 50-amp service, a market, and laundry facilities. Sandollar RV Park, though smaller with just 21 sites, maintains both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service on their compact property. "Sites are large and nicely paved. Only downside is the sites are far from level. When I set the RV to level it jacked it up so high the tires came off the ground."

Most parks in the area maintain gated access with security codes provided at check-in. Proximity to the Gulf of Mexico means hurricane evacuation notices should be monitored during storm season. According to one visitor, "We needed a place for 3 nights near Bacliff, TX and this was it. Pads are all cement with room to park next to your rig." Cell service is consistent throughout the peninsula with strong signals for both AT&T and Verizon. Parks typically require advance reservations during summer months and holiday weekends. Many locations restrict open fires but allow propane fire pits. Dump stations are available at most parks, though Bay RV Park notably lacks this facility. Pet-friendly policies exist at all surveyed locations, with several parks offering dedicated dog areas.

New, smaller park with all the amenities. Level concrete pads will accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. All are back in sites with sewer, city water, 20/30/50 amp power, cable TV, and WiFi included. There’s a nice club house for parties, laundry facilities, a pool next to the bayou, fishing and kayaking/canoeing in the bayou and a friendly staff that keeps the park clean and cared for.

    South Main RV Park

Good for proximity to NRG stadium

My husband and I came to the Houston rodeo and stayed here strictly for proximity to the stadium. The RV park did have a shuttle which was very nice to get us to and from. Most sites are large enough for big rigs, you do have to park on the gravel right in front of your rig which can be tight. Nice concrete pads at each site. Traffic can be loud and there are many full-time set ups here with permanent residents. Has a gate with a code so it did feel safe at night. Small dog park that could use some extra TLC. Laundry on premises, no play ground, good wifi and Verizon service.

    Stella Mare RV Resort

Close to Galveston but still quiet

Month long stay, $730, water, 50 amp. End of October/beginning of November the park is booked out as well as during warmer months. Half of the facilities washers and dryers didn't work. Staff is great about communicating lawn days and other news for long term guests. Trash valet and 2 free parking spots. 2 dogs parks, one for large and another for smaller dogs.

Grand Pines of Texas RV Resort

Three Years New Campground with a Great Staff and Extra Amenities

I was surprised this campground had not been reviewed.  We stayed here in Jan '24 on the way to Houston for business.  Grand Pines is located on I-10 southeast of Beaumont TX.  Sites are all full hook-up, back-in concrete 60' x 20' leaving room for us to park our tow car. Grand Pines has high speed WIFI and free laundry facilities.  Grounds were well kept when we were there. Sites are a bit close together. They may now have more long term usage than transient. Still, it is a great stop over to catch up on domestic duties.

    Houston East RV Resort

    Beautiful Landscaped Sites

Ok these are all premium sites, resort is easy off and on i-10. Gated resort, nice sites, roads are all nice concrete, with concrete parking pads for RV and or tow vehicles. The sites are nicely landscaped, grass, trees, picnic tables, full hookups, include cable and wifi. It is located right off and beside i-10, so there is road noise, but everything food, restaurants, shopping, is all nearby. It's a great stop if traveling i-10 passing through. Oh they also have covered RV sites should you want to beat some of that sunshine off your rig in summer heat. There is a small pool that is nice, and a lake behind campground so one row of sites has lake views. We just took a pull through site under the canopy of trees, it's very nice!

    Southlake RV Resort

    Nice clean park

The park is VERY clean and also quiet! It’s close to everything so thats a major plus. However it does have A LOT of rules. Also, a lot of long term residents live here. The back in spots are a little tight so if you’re not great at backing in just get a pull through. The facilities are immaculate . It’s been worth the price so far.

Guide to Port Bolivar

Port Bolivar camping options extend beyond traditional RV sites to include beach camping opportunities. The Bolivar Peninsula stretches along the Texas Gulf Coast with a subtropical climate and average summer temperatures in the 90s. Winter visitors can expect milder temperatures in the 60s, though occasional cold fronts bring cooler weather to the coastal camping areas.

What to do

Beach fishing access: Most campgrounds on the Bolivar Peninsula provide easy beach access for fishing. At Bolivar Peninsula RV Park, campers can fish and crab in the large on-site lake. According to one visitor, "They have coin laundry and coin showers and a large lake you can fish and crab in. Wifi is good, friendly people, very clean and maintained."

Visit Galveston attractions: The peninsula offers convenient access to Galveston via ferry. While staying at Galveston RV Resort and Marina, one camper noted, "Great Park on Oaffats Bayou. Friendly staff, paved roads and pads. Pull through sites are narrow. No cable, moderate speed WiFi. Fishing in bayou is fun. Bike riding around Galveston was easy."

Dog-friendly beach walks: Many camping areas welcome pets and provide designated exercise spaces. As one reviewer at Bolivar Peninsula RV Park shared, "We chose this place because it was the only rv park with a big dog area our getman shepherds could run energy off on. Highly Recommended!"

What campers like

Spacious camping sites: Many RV parks feature concrete pads with full hookups. At Beachside RV Park, one long-term visitor reported, "My family and I stayed her for a couple months. I loved the community and the friendly hopsilitaty the staff brought us. The dog park is huge and my labrador loves it. The beach is just a short walk there and super easy to get to."

Community atmosphere: Several rv parks near Port Bolivar, Texas foster a welcoming environment for both short-term and long-term stays. A Beachside RV Park visitor noted, "As a solo female traveler in a campervan I felt so incredibly safe and welcomed to this campground. Nancy and Butch are the kindest campground hosts I've ever encountered."

Recreation facilities: Beyond beach access, many parks offer on-site amenities. At Jamaica Beach RV Resort, campers enjoy extensive recreation options. "This place is amazing, it literally has everything! 2 hot tubs, 1 indoor and 1 outdoor, 2 pools, 1 lazy river (so relaxing), 1 miniature golf course, 1 duck pond, 1 outdoor movie screen, 1 Pavillion with grills, and an awesome splash pad for the kids."

What you should know

Beach camping permits: For those wanting to camp directly on the beach, permits are available. According to a Bolivar Peninsula RV Park visitor, "for 10.00 you can tent camp on the beach and your pass is good for the season. The RV park is great, but camping on the beach was an awesome exercise. You can also drive on this beach."

Site leveling challenges: Some parks have uneven pads that may require adjustments. At Sandpiper RV Resort, a camper observed, "Moving the rv wasn't an option because the electric wouldn't reach if I moved forward any further. I just opted not to set my leveling system and it was okay for a quick one night stay."

Weather considerations: The coastal location means campers should prepare for specific conditions. A reviewer at Sandpiper RV noted, "The only issue we had was the mosquitoes. There were so many and sitting outside was difficult. We did buy some things to help. Not sure it was very effective though."

Tips for camping with families

Resort-style amenities: Jamaica Beach RV Resort provides numerous family-friendly activities. "We love this park. We go every summer. It's about 20 minutes outside of Galveston. Beach is across the highway but easy to get to. Pools are the place to hang out. They have plenty of activities for the kids. Putt putt and movie night."

Convenience to beaches: When traveling with children, proximity to beaches matters. A camper at Camp Margaritaville RV Resort Crystal Beach shared, "There is just about every kind of amenity you can imagine here, including many facilities and activities geared toward families. There is a 10% discount for military and first responders."

Safety considerations: For families with younger children, beach access details are important. At Jamaica Beach RV Resort, a visitor noted, "The gulf side of the beach is a short drive away. You can walk it but you have to cross a busy two lane highway which I wouldn't recommend."

Tips from RVers

Off-season advantages: Consider visiting during slower periods for better rates and less crowded facilities. A Camp Margaritaville visitor explained, "Our site was a lakefront patio site which we booked at the off-season rate. The park was between a quarter and a third full, but I would not want to stay when it was completely full."

Winter camping options: Several Bolivar Peninsula RV parks offer special rates for extended winter stays. According to a Beachside RV Park review, "Beachside winter rate I think is like $400/mo all utils included. I understand why it's so popular."

Site selection strategy: When booking at resort-style RV parks, site location significantly impacts experience. At Jamaica Beach RV Resort, one RVer recommended, "We went with another family and got sites that faced each other. Made things really helpful and gave us a little more space than normal."
