The sand near the dunes runs silty, and getting stuck is a real risk; recovery can take considerable time given how far out the beach extends. Camping is permitted along the dunes but not on them, fires are allowed when no restrictions are in place, and the pack-in/pack-out rule applies strictly. No permit is required. Anglers, swimmers, and kayakers heading to campgrounds just outside Freeport will find this free, drive-in site a workable base, with cell service and pet-friendly access adding to its practicality.
