Gordonville camping areas sit along the Texas side of Lake Texoma, with elevations ranging from 640 to 725 feet. The region experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F from June through September, making the lakeside locations particularly valuable during peak season. Most camping facilities remain open year-round with reduced winter rates from November through February.
What to do
Fishing access options: At Thousand Trails Lake Texoma, campers can reach fishing spots through the picnic trail. "One big issue with this park is the distance to the actual lake itself. You will need a cart or be ready for a hike to the beach area as it is quite a ways from the campground... lucky for us we were in the B section and decided to attempt the picnic walk. Well worth it, even with a walker we managed to make it down to the waters edge within 15 minutes and its an easy gradual walk."
Basketball and recreation: Winstar RV Park offers sports facilities for active travelers. "It has a great pool, great covered picnic area, horseshoe pit, basketball court and play area." The park also features "a nice outdoor basketball court and playground" with adjacent pavilion space for group activities.
Swimming options: Pools are available at several parks when lake swimming isn't ideal. "There is a nice walk to Lake Texoma which was nice. Not a lot to do around otherwise." Most park pools operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with some extending operations during warmer fall months.
What campers like
Level concrete pads: By The Lake RV Park & Resort features well-constructed sites. "All concrete pads, dead level with tables. The bathrooms and showers are pristine. WIFI is fast enough to stream 40Mbps, there is cable TV with over 70 channels." The park is located near Lake Murray State Park, offering additional recreation options.
Clean facilities: Parks maintain good cleanliness standards, particularly important during peak season. "Very good camping experience. Friendly staff, clean park including bathrooms. Example of common courtesy that is not common anymore happened this morning I was eating breakfast outside at my camp site. A few camp sites away a staff member was using a riding mower to cut the grass, as he got closer to me he cut the engine way down so I didn't get dust and grass in my breakfast."
Spacious sites: RV sites near Gordonville, Texas often provide ample room. "We had a pull through site with plenty of space for our 44' 5th wheel, truck and extra vehicle. Would definitely stay again." Many parks offer sites that accommodate large rigs without crowding.
What you should know
Variable WiFi quality: Internet access can be inconsistent between parks and even within the same facility. "Their WiFi is very good, better than most any other place I've visited, in an RV or otherwise. We were never blocked for too much usage, and I was re-installing a lot of large development and server software on a new laptop while I was there. There are a large number of repeaters throughout the park."
Shuttle services: Casino-adjacent parks often provide transportation. "There is a shuttle, which I assume runs when the casino is open." Most shuttle services operate on 15-30 minute intervals during casino hours.
Marina access: Cedar Mills Marina & RV Resort offers direct boat access. "We stayed here for 2 weeks in September 2020. We had site 9, which is the same site we had when we were there last year. The site is short and narrow and kitty-corner to the sites to each side but it was gravel pad, level and had FHU with 30/50 amp. We had a view of the marina out our side window."
Tips for camping with families
Activities for children: Parks with multiple amenities help keep families engaged. "Used the pool every day along with the game room. Nice to have a spot that has it all, dog park, fishing lake, pool good WiFi and great lots!" Many family-oriented parks offer scheduled activities during summer months.
Late arrival options: Some parks accommodate after-hours check-ins. "Riverview RV and Recreational Park is just inside the OK border right on the red river. Very pretty and quiet." One camper noted: "Got in after gate had been locked. Manager worked with us earlier in the day so we were assured that we would have access."
Consider site location: At larger parks, location within the facility matters. "Full hook ups available. Some have no sewer hook ups. Most are 30 amp, many are 50 amp. Sites range from full sun to full shade. Quite a few annuals. Lake is accessible- about half a mile down a private road."
Tips from RVers
Security features: Many RV sites near Gordonville prioritize safety. "Roads and Pads were perfectly paved and level. Safe atmosphere with gated access. Highly recommend." This security is particularly valuable for those leaving equipment while exploring the area.
Big rig access: Old Towne RV Ranch accommodates large vehicles. "Easily accessible about 5 miles off the interstate. We arrived late after 11pm, owner opened the gate and directed us to our site. Pad was level and hookups well placed. Took off early the next morning, free ice was a nice bonus!"
Check electrical pedestals: Some parks have maintenance issues with power connections. "The first spot I chose had a bad pedestal, so I had to pick up and choose another spot. I would definitely recommend checking the pedestal before unpacking. There were a ton of spots closed off because of the bad pedestals."
