Jackie's Place RV Resort provides a fenced dog park for off-leash exercise, while Brickhouse RV Resort allows pets with concrete pads and level sites adjacent to Jarbo Bayou for dog-friendly fishing access. Most properties maintain clean, well-kept grounds with specific pet areas. Galveston Bay RV Resort features waterfront sites where campers can view their boats while dogs enjoy the property. Concrete sites with full hookups accommodate various RV sizes with pets, though some parks enforce specific pet policies regarding size or number of animals.

Local RV parks maintain designated pet walking areas away from swimming facilities, with waste disposal stations positioned throughout the grounds. Tropical Gardens RV Park features a small pond with domestic ducks and a dog park surrounded by water, creating scenic walking opportunities. The Gulf Coast's warm climate requires attention to pet hydration and paw protection on hot concrete pads during summer months. Most parks enforce leash requirements outside designated pet areas, with breed restrictions varying by property. Bay RV Park offers Texas-size sites with grass areas and trees providing shaded relief for dogs during afternoon heat, located just two blocks from Galveston Bay.

Great rv campground close to airport

Great campground with wonderful staff who are very friendly. Full hookup, paved sites with heated saltwater pool and hot tub, workout facilities, clubhouse with games and puzzles, laundry facilities, a small camp store, and pet friendly with two small dog parks. The best thing about the location is that it backs up to Tom Bass park that has wonderful dog parks along with playgrounds and frisbee golf. Would definitely be staying here again!

      Traders Village RV Park

Houston, Tx…..Nothing to get excited about

It’s a large campground and spaces are very small. There’s a grass strip between camp sites. No picnic tables or grills. The office gave us a map and showed us how to get to our site but virtually impossible to understand. A very nice gentleman that stayed here took us to our site. He said they have no idea how to do directions and a buddy of his really messed up his camper by trolling around looking for their site. It’s very crowded and no room for awnings or for both campers side by side to put out awnings. There is a pool but it doesn’t look well maintained and there’s absolutely no chairs. Just the pool and it’s small. Laundry room is large. There’s no dog park or anywhere to walk your dog. Signs everywhere that say no pets, yet they are allowed. The flea market is only on the wknd. It’s close to a lot of restaurants and in a nice area.

      Beachside RV Park

      Best place in Bolivar Peninsula

This was such a blissful place to start my Texas snowbird trip. As a solo female traveler in a campervan I felt so incredibly safe and welcomed to this campground. Nancy and Butch are the kindest campground hosts I've ever encountered. They ensured to check in with me regularly during my two week stay, the bathroom, shower and laundry facilities were maintained consistently, and the dog park and closeness to the beach was perfect for my dog's daily exercise. For the reasonable price, I felt this campground delivered above and beyond. If I hadn't scheduled another campground, I would have stayed longer. Thank you to all at Beachside RV. You made my stay memorable.

      Bolivar Peninsula RV Park

      Still needs work

Pros: office lady very nice, site 1 has 1 tree for shade, ferry w/ our travel trailer from Galveston Island was easier than expected, large dog park, close to Camp Margaritaville.

Cons: gravel sites, bathroom super gross with no TP, dirt rv road kicks up lots of dust, right on noisy highway.

Houston / Med Center KOA Holiday

      A lot of Amenities

The park is clean, but the sites are tight. The further you get to the front the louder the traffic noise is, but the sites are larger and spaced out more. It is a five and take. It has three locations with washer and dryers, two dog parks, a recreation room and easy access to Tom Bass park.

      Beachside RV Park

      Affordable, Convenient, Amenity Rich

This is the nicest RV Park on the Bolivar Peninsula / Crystal Beach area. Truly. So well maintained, and quiet peaceful setting.

We were surprised that it had a nice dog park, indoor laundry, shower, wifi, gazebo for hanging out in and more, all included in the rate!

      Close to the beach.

Walk to the gas station and restaurants.

They are running a winter special.

    Guide to El Lago

The coastal climate around El Lago, Texas creates humid, warm conditions for camping year-round, with average summer temperatures reaching 90°F. Winter campers experience milder 60-70°F days, though occasional cold fronts bring temperatures below freezing. The bayou and coastal ecosystems support diverse wildlife habitat while creating challenges with insects during warmer months.

    What to do

Fishing access: Brickhouse RV Resort offers direct access to Jarbo Bayou where campers can fish without leaving the property. A reviewer notes, "Pool is located next to Jarbo Bayou for birdwatching, kayaking and fishing."

Beach exploration: Bolivar Flats Dispersed Camping provides free beach camping with excellent shell collecting opportunities. "We stayed in November, the temps were perfect to a little cool. We're about 17k pounds and had no issues driving and setting up on the sand. It is pretty, there are shells everywhere," reports one visitor.

Wildlife viewing: The small pond at Tropical Gardens RV Park & Resort features domestic ducks and water-surrounded walking paths. "Beautiful little pond in the RV park with a little flock of domestic ducks that live in the pond. There is also a dog park surrounded by water," mentions a camper.

    What campers like

Concrete pads: Many El Lago area campgrounds feature level concrete parking areas. At Jackie's Place RV Resort, "Pads are all cement with room to park next to your rig. All sites are back so use some spotters to get in safely."

Spacious sites: Bay RV Park offers exceptionally large sites compared to other local options. A reviewer highlights, "We have huge, Texas-size sites with full hook-ups (20, 30 and 50 amp) and we also offer easy park pull-through sites."

Beach proximity: Camping near Galveston allows easy beach access. A visitor to Galveston Island State Park Campground shared, "Campsites are concrete, level, with a very nice shelter. We stayed on the beach side and easy access to the beach from pretty much any site."

    What you should know

Weekday vs. weekend experience: Bolivar Flats experiences significant visitor fluctuations. "The weekends are loud and busy, during the week it calms down and gets quiet. There are also paramotors that fly over head, they are fun to watch," notes one camper.

Weather considerations: Coastal camping requires weather awareness. One camper at Bolivar Flats advised, "Check the weather! I was there the night of a tornado watch. 70 mile an hour winds and heavy rain."

Variable amenities: Facilities vary widely between campgrounds. At Space Center RV Park, "We were able to stay 3 nights across the clubhouse and pool. We uber to NASA and it was so convenient."

    Tips for camping with families

Pool availability: Several pet-friendly campgrounds near El Lago offer swimming options. Jackie's Place RV Resort features "a sparkling pool and guest lounge, general store and a pool table!"

Beach accessibility: When camping with children, consider how far you'll walk to reach water. At Galveston Island State Park, "The beach is a short walk from campground," and one visitor noted the "beach itself is clean/not littered and is perfect for skim boarding!"

Bathroom facilities: Campground bathrooms vary significantly. A visitor to Galveston Island reported, "Gorgeous spacious bathrooms with literally granite countertops. Lovely."

    Tips from RVers

Site orientation: Some parks have specific traffic patterns. At USA RV Resorts Marina Bay, "Getting there the first time is a tad shaky. As you pull in, natural inclination is to go to the right ... which is wrong. You have to go left to be able to hit the sites correctly."

Electrical service: Verify power connections before setup. One camper at Palms RV Park warned, "Incorrect wiring with the 50 amp service destroyed our fridges and microwave."

Long-term vs. short-term mix: Many parks host both temporary and permanent residents. At USA RV Resorts Marina Bay, "There are more full timers here than weekend visitors but things are well taken care of."
