Wildlife viewing opportunities abound throughout the region, with bird watching particularly popular. Fort Anahuac Park, offering primitive camping for up to three nights, provides unique historical context and views of Houston's skyline across the bay. Mosquitoes present a common challenge, especially during warmer months, with one camper reporting they were "worse at Surfside at night." Most developed campgrounds feature swimming pools, laundry facilities, and clubhouses to enhance comfort during the hot Texas summers.

    Galveston Island KOA Holiday

    Fun Place to stay

I recently stayed at the Galveston Island KOA during a much-anticipated getaway, and I have to say, it was a delightful experience overall! Nestled just a short distance from the beach and local attractions, this KOA is the perfect base for exploring all that Galveston has to offer. Its a bit away from town, but that adds to the tranquilness of the park.  Accommodation: The RV sites were well-maintained and spacious, with clean concrete pads that provided easy access for our motorhome. We were pleasantly surprised by the level of privacy between sites and the beautiful greenery surrounding the campground, as we had a corner site with dog pen. Some spots, like ours, even offered nice trees for shade and added charm. The amenities included water, electricity, and sewer connections, all functioning properly during our stay. Facilities: The campground featured clean restrooms and showers that were well-kept, which is always a plus for RV travelers. The camp store was stocked with essentials.  The KOA’s location is exceptional. It’s just a few miles from the heart of Galveston, making it easy to access the beach, restaurants, and attractions like the historic Pleasure Pier and the Strand. We especially loved how close it was to the beach—it was a quick drive(or a nice bike ride) to the sandy shores, where we spent hours soaking up the sun. Activities and Atmosphere: The staff were friendly and eager to help with information about local activities and attractions. The KOA offered recreational options like a swimming pool. The campground maintained a family-friendly atmosphere that made it easy to unwind and enjoy nature. Tips for Future Guests: If you plan to visit during peak season, make reservations in advance to secure a good spot, as this campground can get busy. Especially if you want a cabin. Don’t miss the chance to explore the beach during sunset—it was truly a breathtaking experience!

Final Thoughts: Our experience at the Galveston Island KOA was memorable and enjoyable. It was the first time out in our new motorhome.  The combination of respectful staff, clean facilities, and a prime location made it a fantastic home base for our beach adventures. I’d highly recommend this KOA to anyone looking to explore Galveston while enjoying the comforts of camping. We left with wonderful memories and hope to return soon!

    San Jacinto Riverfront RV Resort

Lovely spot just far enough off the Interstate for peace and quiet for the night!

It was a quick overnight visit, so the flat concrete pad with a tree and grass made for a nice reprieve from the Interstate travel! On the river with cure cottages available for rent as well. Dominoes delivery right to the gate!

    Bolivar Flats Dispersed Camping

    Almost perfect!

Beautiful location. You can park right up to the water. Wind was blowing around 30mph from the south so the waves were amazing to listen and watch. Kid had a blast too! Only gave 4 stars because of the biting flies... They were swarming out dog, we had to keep her in the tent most of the time.
