    Vampire mosquitos

Listening to the ocean waves is relaxing enough. I can hang out here for a week. Is green and spacious. The beach is few hundred feet away. There’s power and water. The site is level. Is sooo nice. Once the sun goes down. An army of vampire mosquitos descend on you and your pets. We were enjoying being outside and we had to get into our trailer. Spent a while killing them. Good thing we had walked the dogs. In the trailer the vampire mosquitos would be sucking on you as you killed them. They would be on you all over. Once sunrise came. They were gone. Even with a breeze they came.

    At the Beach RV Park

    Literally on the beach

No frills, water/sewer/electric hookups for about 12 rigs on someone’s beach front lot. Pets allowed and drive on beach access point is on the property. You can drive on and have fires on this section of the beach….that’s something different and cool. We had plenty of food, drinks, wood with us - I’m not sure about nearby grocery availability. It’s probably too windy for tent camping, but a neat place if you have a small to medium size RV. I called the owner, paid over the phone and that was it.

    Village Creek State Park Campground

Keep an eye out for Bigfoot!

Great park if you want to get outside, but still want access to civilization.

Park is somewhat of a mix between wetland and forest. While this is an awesome ecosystem with lots to see and explore - take bug spray! Especially if going in May - when the Horseflies are out. We made the mistake of forgoing the Off and got eaten alive. This is our fault, and not the parks, though.

The park is conveniently located just outside of Beaumont. In fact, you may feel like you haven’t left the city until you are there. This can be helpful if you want to grab a bite and not cook, or if you run short of supplies. I would recommend this park especially for someone new to camping.

    Nice Park

Easy access from the interstate but not noisy. Just stayed one night on our way home from San Antonio so really didn’t use any of the facilities but sites are nice and level and the place is clean. Had dinner at Tia Juanita's Fish Camp and would highly recommend it if staying in Beaumont.

Grand Pines of Texas RV Resort

Three Years New Campground with a Great Staff and Extra Amenities

I was surprised this campground had not been reviewed.  We stayed here in Jan '24 on the way to Houston for business.  Grand Pines is located on I-10 southeast of Beaumont TX.  Sites are all full hook-up, back-in concrete 60' x 20' leaving room for us to park our tow car. Grand Pines has high speed WIFI and free laundry facilities.  Grounds were well kept when we were there. Sites are a bit close together. They may now have more long term usage than transient. Still, it is a great stop over to catch up on domestic duties.

    Sea Rim State Park Campground

    The Mosquito Coast

The Mosquito Coast Dec 2022•  We had RV campground reservations for 3 nights but left after one because of the mosquitoes. I had read reviews and came prepared with Thermacell repellent and DEET spray but were overwhelmed by the mosquitoes. My Labrador had mosquitoes swarming him. The campground and park is surrounded by a marsh. The mosquitoes are not bad on the beach where there is a breeze. The park rangers are very nice and the campground itself is nice with spacious flat spots with electric and water hook ups. A dump station is available. Verizon coverage is poor. About half the RV spots were used however I only saw one other camper outside of their RV while we were there. I guess everyone else stayed inside their RV because of the mosquitoes. If you are a first time beach camper to the Texas Gulf Coast, try boondocking on the beach here or further down the Bolivar Peninsula near Crystal Beach. You need to be away from the marsh where the breeze keeps the mosquitoes away.

Guide to Beaumont

Village Creek State Park Campground offers 46 feet of elevation with electric hookups, water access, and a dump station. Located near Beaumont, Texas, the park features primitive non-powered tent sites that provide privacy, alongside RV sites positioned on level asphalt pads. The area experiences seasonal closures and restoration efforts, including a long-leaf pine reforestation project that occasionally affects trail access.

What to do

Paddle the waterways: Village Creek State Park provides kayaking opportunities with ranger-recommended routes. According to one visitor, "There are several nice hikes in the park but many were closed due to a long-leaf pine reforestation project that involved logging and shredding. A bit inconvenient and we could hear the shredders but we met one of the project engineers who took the time to explain the much-needed project/restoration effort." The park staff can provide trail maps and guidance for water exploration.

Fish at stocked lakes: Boomtown USA RV Resort maintains a private stocked lake for guests. One camper notes, "Private stocked lake. Very nice and attentive staff and park is clean and well maintained." The fishing areas are accessible and well-maintained for various skill levels.

Beach activities: For pets and owners who enjoy coastal environments, beach access provides water recreation. A visitor to Sea Rim State Park Campground shares, "This is a nice little park, only 14 RV hookup sites and they allow camping in tents on the beach. The sites were very close to the boardwalk that takes you over the dunes and to the beach. The nature trail over the marsh was really cool, we saw lots of alligators and birds."

What campers like

Free watercraft access: Hidden Lake RV Park offers complimentary boats for recreation. One camper reports, "A small lake with free use of canoes and peddle boat available." This amenity adds value without additional cost for guests seeking water activities.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Multiple parks in the Beaumont area provide wildlife observation points. A camper at Sea Rim State Park noted, "The nature trail over the marsh was really cool, we saw lots of alligators and birds." These natural habitats support diverse species year-round.

Quiet locations away from crowds: Despite proximity to Beaumont amenities, several campgrounds maintain peaceful environments. One visitor to Hidden Lake RV Park stated, "We stayed here as an easy close spot to Ford Arena Softball Fields. Literally 3 minutes there. It's a small quiet park that has a few full-time campers." The convenience of nearby urban amenities without sacrificing tranquility appeals to many campers.

What you should know

Seasonal mosquito populations: Insect protection is essential, particularly at coastal locations. A Sea Rim State Park visitor warned, "But nothing kept them away. And it wasn't just a few...they swarmed. At one point my husband had at least 30 on him (and he usually never gets bitten)...after using Off. They were even in the pop up."

Hurricane recovery status: Several parks continue restoration from previous storm damage. According to a Village Creek visitor, "Hurricane Harvey flooded most of the park in 2017 but now it is completely open. The park is very nice. It is very typical of Texas parks.... awesome!!" Call ahead for current conditions and accessibility.

Access limitations: Gate schedules affect entry at some locations. A visitor to Sea Rim State Park noted, "I've been camping around the country for four months straight now and this is the only park - national, state, regional or otherwise - that I've encountered that literally locks their gate at night. The time listed on google or their website is a hard closing time, not just when the ranger goes off duty. There is no way in, no way out until the next morning."

Tips for camping with families

Beach shell hunting: Coastal areas provide opportunities for collecting natural souvenirs. A Sea Rim visitor mentioned, "The beach was ok, not the nicest I've ever seen but the kids loved it. Lots of shells and treasures to be found. And very few other people around."

Water recreation options: Multiple water features provide family activities. One visitor to End Of The Road RV Park shared, "Shaded Waterfront RV spaces and fully furnished cabins. Quiet, safe, and peaceful park. Wifi, 90ft dock, and aluminum boats free for residents."

Park programming: Some locations offer guided educational activities. A Village Creek visitor noted, "Stayed here the weekend before Halloween, most all of the park was still closed from flooding earlier in the year. The nature center was open and we made seed balls to distribute throughout the garden area. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable."

Tips from RVers

Site spacing considerations: Pet friendly camping near Beaumont, Texas varies in site separation. A Gulf Coast RV Resort visitor observed, "The sites are very close together in the side we were staying at. More like a big parking lot." Another noted, "All concrete pads with FHU. Long pull throughs some even long enough for 45' motorhome and tow. Mine 50 Amp and 65' pull through."

Road noise awareness: Highway proximity affects some campgrounds. A Boomtown USA RV Resort camper mentioned, "Minus 1 star because we were parked by the high way so the noise was a little annoying throughout the night." Consider requesting sites further from major roads when traveling with noise-sensitive pets.

Utilities and hookup placement: RV site design varies between parks. One Gulf Coast RV Resort camper noted, "The pad is buried into the ground which cause hills into the grass. A great way to break an ankle. It also caused a hill for the sewer hose to run uphill." Check site reviews for specific utility placement information.
