Lake Herman State Park

Located at the headwaters of the Dells channel that inspired the name Dell Rapids - south side of the Big Sioux River and west of South Garfield Avenue. The campground provides a rustic relaxing camping experience in our city limits but within a beautifully serene park along the Big Sioux River. The campground features 29 campsites with individual electric panels, access to water, and sewer (sites 16 - 29 only), a picnic table and a fire ring. The campground also features a  shower house, playground, access to a newly installed recreational trail with a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Big Sioux River. The campground is also in close proximity to other scenic city parks and is within walking distance of historic downtown Dell Rapids. Campsites are currently $25 per night for electric and water only (sites 1-15) and $35 per night for electric, water, and sewer (sites 16-29).

Flandreau Municipal Park

We are a tent campground located on the west side of Sioux Falls South Dakota. We have farm animals on the property that consist of horses sheep and baby cows. We have Percheron draft horses and mini horses. All the animals love attention so you'll be able to interact with them on your stay. There is a gun shooting range and a big fire pit area. Come relax with us and have some fun.

The Mount Rushmore State is home to seven National Park Service sites that range from jewel-encrusted caves to ancient fossil beds. Black Hills National Forest in the western side of the state covers an additional 1.2 million acres that spill over the border into Wyoming and hold the highest peak east of the Rockies. At about 71,000 acres, nearby Custer State Park is one of the largest state parks in the country and home to an annual buffalo roundup that offers a true taste of the American West. The Black Hills, often referred to as the “island in the prairie,” is a perfect spot to start your South Dakota camping trip!


Travelers looking to lounge lakeside will be pleased with the many camping options available near the region’s 17 lakes. Strap on your backpack and hike the state’s 111-mile Centennial Trail, which provides a north to south taste of the Black Hills through prairie grasslands, dense forests, and high country terrain. Check with the different land management agencies along the way for specifics on where backcountry camping is allowed or where to find established campgrounds. Rather bike? The 109-mile George S. Mickelson Trail runs parallel to the Centennial Trail and is a rails-to-trails, car-free dream.

A popular destination for boaters, paddlers, and water skiers, Lake Vermillion is a 512-acre artificial reservoir on the East Fork of the Vermillion River. Both the river and the lake are named for the red quartzite stone found along the river’s banks. Lake Vermillion is popular with area anglers for its abundance of walleye, bluegill, crappie, and northern pike. Two boat ramps provide easy access for fishing on the lake, as well as putting in other recreational watercraft. There are plenty of onshore activities at Lake Vermillion as well, with various sports fields, horseshoe pits and a short nature trail, all located within the lake’s camping and picnic areas.      

The year-round campground at Lake Vermillion, just 30 minutes west of Sioux Falls, features more than 90 tent and RV campsites in three areas, on the northwest and northeast shores of the lake. Most sites are equipped with electrical hookups, and all include picnic tables with sun shades, and fire pits with grills. There are also four rustic, walk-in tent sites, two ADA accessible sites, and seven camping cabins. All camp areas have water faucets, and access to flush restrooms, vault toilets, and showers; a dump station is located near the campground entrance. The West Campground also has a kid’s play area, picnic area, swim beach and fishing dock. Campsite rates are $17–$21/night, plus entrance fee; cabins are $45/night.
