    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

The mountain landscape surrounding Landrum, South Carolina features several campgrounds that cater to various camping preferences within a short drive. Paris Mountain State Park Campground and Orchard Lake Campground provide developed sites for tent, RV, and cabin camping, while numerous private facilities in the area offer additional glamping and yurt accommodations. Most established campgrounds lie within 30 miles of Landrum, positioned along the border between South Carolina and North Carolina, giving campers access to both Piedmont and Blue Ridge Mountain environments.

Campground accessibility varies significantly based on reservation requirements and seasonal demand. Full-service campgrounds like Orchard Lake and Emberglow Outdoor Resort typically require advance reservations, especially during the peak season from April through October when occupancy rates are highest. Many parks maintain year-round operations, though amenities may be limited during winter months. Smaller facilities like Wilderness Cove Campground provide tent-only areas with basic amenities alongside cabin rentals. Campers should verify water availability and shower access when booking as these amenities vary considerably between properties. A visitor noted, "Beautiful area the campground is in. The sites are very close together but the campground itself is spread out with a couple different loops so you don't feel like you're in a mega campground."

The mixed-use campgrounds in the region frequently receive positive feedback for their family-friendly amenities and water features. Several facilities maintain swimming areas, fishing ponds, and paddling opportunities that enhance the camping experience. Developed campgrounds like Paris Mountain State Park offer electric hookups, showers, and sanitary dump stations for RVs, while maintaining natural settings with picnic tables and fire rings at most sites. Reviewers consistently mention the variety of activities available at campgrounds like Orchard Lake, which features paddle boats, kayaking, and a swimming lake with a slide. Campground options range from basic tent sites to luxury glamping accommodations, with Emberglow Outdoor Resort standing out for its diverse lodging styles including vintage RVs, camping pods, and tiny homes alongside traditional camping sites. Many properties maintain reliable WiFi coverage, which remains important for visitors needing to stay connected.

      Harmony Glen

      Harmony Glen.

Harmony Glen is a lovely place to camp in western North Carolina with a welcoming host to greet you. It is beautiful, green, spacious, and quiet. Only one site on owners' property, so no noisy neighbors. The site is a gravel pad within a green grove of birch and pine trees. Host has a notebook of information to share of surrounding area with notable sites. They include Judaculla Rock, a petroglyph of unknown Native American origin; Great Smoky Mountains National Park; Whitewater Falls, the highest natural waterfall east of the Mississippi River; and the delightful towns of Cashiers, Sylva, and Dillsboro to explore nearby. Come and see!

      Riverbend Campground

      Absolute gem

So fortunate to have stumbled upon this gem. All sites are along the river. RV sites are equipped with electric and water. There is an outhouse and dish wash station. We tent camped and our site was a grassy spot along the river. We had had a picnic table and bbq. Nearby there is a large social fire pit with chairs where we roasted s’mores with our neighbors. There are two rope swings and we brought innertubes. The stairs to the water was perfect for swimming. We stayed for 3 days and it was wonderful!

      Tent Camping

All you might need for a night camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains! The drive there is part of the trip!Drinking water spouts located throughout campsites, with picnic tables and fire rings at each site. Basic camp bathrooms with running water to freshen up. Hike to Frying Pan trail if you have time!! About 4/5 miles total but worth the hike to the lookout tower.

      Wash Creek Dispersed Pull-Off

      Beary nice

Great spot! I didn’t stay at the pull off but further down the road there’s actual campgrounds with tent platforms and fire rings for dispersed camping. I found the last empty one. It was quiet but there was a bit of cycling traffic up and down the road. They had signs posted about bear activity and I even saw a bear come out 10 feet from my car! Didn’t bother me after walking back down the road. Nice quiet site :)

      Campfire Lodgings

      Beautiful views

Full hookups. Campground has several sites with million dollar views and a viewing point for the non view campsites to use. We would recommend it for Asheville area rv camping.

      Buck Creek

      Amazing

I’m thrilled to give this campground my highest recommendation! The owners and staff couldn’t have been more accommodating, helpful and kind! We called that morning because the campground we were booked at turned out to be awful. They fit us in and then we ended up extending our stay. We had to keep moving sites because they had other campers coming in, but it was worth it! Our favorite sites was 54 and 27. Some sites are close, but all are on the creek so you don’t notice it at all! Nothing better than waking up to the sound of water! The campground location is perfect, 20-30 minutes from things to do like hiking and wineries.

      Cool Change

Typical National Park Campground.Sites are small but spread apart. Not many that we could fit 28 foot Airstream .Clean restrooms and free showers. The rangers are very friendly. Very professional and helpful. The restaurant is great but you need to make a reservation.

    Guide to Landrum

Camping sites near Landrum, South Carolina range from primitive tent areas to full-service RV parks within the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The elevation in this transitional zone between Piedmont and mountains varies from about 1,000 to 3,000 feet, creating diverse microclimates that affect camping conditions throughout the seasons. Winter temperatures can drop below freezing, while summer days typically reach the mid-80s with moderate humidity compared to lower-elevation South Carolina locations.

    What to do

Kayaking at Davidson River: Located about an hour from Landrum, Davidson River Campground offers excellent water recreation. "Great hiking trails and easy access campsites. Mountain lake was a little small for kayaking, but we had fun," notes Tye G., who gave the campground five stars.

Hiking wilderness trails: Take advantage of the remote backcountry camping at Jones Gap State Park Campground for access to exceptional trails. A camper reports, "Jones Gap gives you the feeling of really being deep in the Appalachians. The rushing river and dense foliage with tons of mountain laurel makes the air seem so fresh."

Swimming in natural settings: At Wilderness Cove Campground, visitors can enjoy cooling off during hot summer months. "Camped at Wilderness Cove in August 2020 for 2 nights. Very clean, small, quiet campground. Tents only, they do have some cabins for rent," shares a reviewer who appreciated the simple amenities.

    What campers like

Private campsites: Many campers appreciate the seclusion at some parks. At Jones Gap State Park, one reviewer noted, "Unlike other state park campgrounds, each spot is about a quarter mile from the next, so you feel like you have the mountain to yourself."

Dog-friendly accommodations: Four Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat caters specifically to canine companions. "We visited this park a few weeks ago and wished we could have stayed longer! It's a well-kept, clean park within approximately half an hour from Lake Lure. It is an adult only campground that is dog-centric," explains a satisfied visitor.

Riverfront locations: Several campgrounds offer sites directly on waterways. A guest at Hickory Nut Falls Family Campground shared, "Once you get set up at your waterfront site you can't help but be in awe of the rapids. We hung out all night enjoying its ambiance and the moonlight shines."

    What you should know

Site levelness challenges: Many campgrounds in the mountainous terrain around Landrum have uneven sites. A camper at Paris Mountain State Park Campground reported, "Liked the campground. No amenities per day except bathroom/showers. Nice large sites but very unlevel due to mountain side. Would not stay again because we were so unlevel our refrigerator wouldn't work."

Seasonal considerations: Most campgrounds in the area have limited winter operations. Table Rock State Park maintains year-round access, but visitors should expect reduced services during colder months.

Access constraints: Some campgrounds have challenging access roads. At Hickory Nut Falls Family Campground, one reviewer warned, "Be alert to turn wide when turning into this campground. Very narrow bridge from the main road making it absolutely necessary to turn into the other lane for longer rigs."
