Camp Driftwood

Camp Driftwood Asheville, near Asheville, North Carolina, is a charming spot for those looking to escape the daily grind and enjoy some time in nature. With 14 sites available, it offers a mix of tent, RV, and cabin accommodations, making it a flexible choice for different camping styles.

This campground is right by the French Broad River, providing beautiful water views and a great backdrop for activities like swimming and fishing. Visitors have praised the scenic surroundings, with one camper noting, “The river is much bigger and more beautiful than we expected.” The sites are equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, perfect for evening gatherings around the campfire.

While the campground has some amenities like drinking water and showers, it maintains a rustic feel that many campers appreciate. Some have mentioned the road noise, but the sound of the rushing river often drowns it out, creating a relaxing atmosphere. As one reviewer put it, “You fell asleep to the sound of rushing water.”

For those eager to explore, Camp Driftwood is just a short drive from downtown Asheville, where you can find plenty of dining and entertainment options. Whether you're here for a weekend getaway or a longer stay, this campground offers a peaceful retreat with plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun.

Description

Camp Driftwood is located on the French Broad River, just a 12 minute drive to downtown Asheville. A very convenient location, easy in and out, you park at your site and Weaverville shopping and conveniences are just 3 miles away. The camp offers a bathhouse near the cabins and porto-jon on the southern more remote end. There are two beaches one for swimming, tubing and boating access the other for fishing and chillin dog friendly. The sound of the water rapids will captivate you. Located below Marshall highway (river road) you do hear vehicles mostly during work hours and across the wide river there is a train, super cool WNC feature, but some things to be aware of. The tent sites all come with a rock fire ring and picnic table, the first 4 sites have power and there is hose water at the bathhouse. The camp stretches 1/4 mile along the bank of the river. Upcoming return visit

This place is fantastic if you'd want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This is the first time I've gone here but for the price of the cabins it's cheaper than staying local in a tent site

Beautiful River View and Wildlife close to town

We started our cross country camping trip here in Asheville and wanted water views. Camp Driftwood did not disappoint. It’s a beautiful perfect blend of “rough” camping with amenities. Good warm up for some of the stuff coming!

9/10 would recommend

So pretty!

Very private and awesome! Campsite is very small and entrance is narrow so be on the lookout when you’re first driving in! The river is much bigger and more beautiful than we expected- great surprise! We stayed at #12 which is technically roadside but it doesn’t really make a difference- still close to river. Road is pretty busy and noisy but it quiets down after midnight.

We will definitely be coming back!

Just okay

This campground is just okay. The good- we were in sites 9/11.. booked together as one booking. The site was level with nice drainage(which was a good things as it rained for 18 hours). The river was beautiful and you fell asleep to sound of rushing water. The bad.. road noise.. LOTS! If you have a bigger vehicle.. then avoid this campground. Tight and narrow.. with little toom to turn around. Which they do mention in their description.. but tighter than what you would think.. access is via a steep slope down. One bath house.. which was occupied every time I tried to use it. Portajohns are bathroom option. The area is beautiful and we accessed the river for a kayak adeventure right from the campground.

Our favorite car-camping spot

We have been here for my birthday, a family trip, and for a concert weekend- we just can’t get enough! Dean is great and will drop firewood off if you order it, and is super helpful with booking side-by-side sites if you come with a group. Right on the riverbank and a short drive away from things to do.

Lovely spot. Next to a busy road so keep in mind if you are in a tent you will hear traffic. The spots are nestled right next to each other

Wow what a spot!

It is the perfect little spot tucked back in the mountains, best part was it was river side. Had a great spot for a fire and picnic tables too. Such a romantic part of our getaway. Would recommend to anyone!

Magical

This place is truly magical. There are a couple of cabins you can rent, along with several campsites. It’s right in the heart of downtown Asheville, so there’s a ton of stuff to do (hot springs, mining, zip lining, the list goes on) but that’s if you even want to leave the campsite. There’s a beach where you can go swimming, and all of the sites are right on the French broad river. It’s a true gem. The ONLY drawback is there’s only one shower (but I say being dirty doesn’t count if you’re camping.)

Great campsite

Flat soft spots to put a tent, close to the road but the roads on up a hill and the river downs out any noise, great for swimming and fishing

Close to Asheville, off the beaten path

I liked the parking right next to the river. Remote and secluded even with other campers staying here. Bathhouse on site, a short walk from our site. They have some electric access but not the type an RV plugs into.

Check your GPS, ours was off a little on finding the exact address.

Extremely Rude Staff - Dean

I tried to call to ask about reservations and during normal business hours. No one answered the phone a couple times, sent straight to voicemail, which did in fact confirm it was Dean from Camp Driftwood. I called again later and he answered the phone and repeatedly said, "Quit calling me!" 0 stars for customer service, a bit of a let down since we had seen good reviews here.

Disappointed in Communication

Submitted a request to book yesterday and waited almost 24 hours to get a response - during which time I didn’t want to make reservations elsewhere and end up getting charged in two places.

Finally got an email that said denied, but didn’t say why.

Came back to look at the listing and saw it had been updated with closed for season and the booking request option removed.

By then, my back up camp also filled up.

Beautiful! Just beautiful

We came here for our honeymoon for 2 nights. The camp is easy to find, located about 10 minutes outside of Asheville. The French Broad is literally right in front of your campsites. Very peaceful and clean setting. Dean was there to help with any questions we had. Super great guy! We will definitley be back and would recommend Camp Driftwood to anyone looking for a nice, quiet get away. Thank you so much!

Awesome host and awesome view!

We absolutely loved this spot! All of the campsites are right on the river. Dean is extremely nice and helpful. Tons of firewood is available for $10 (he accepts cash or PayPal). The spots have numbers so it’s easy to tell which you’re at and Dean will give you a heads up about which ones are available! We just choose the best looking one that was open.

Very Pleased

Was very easy getting in and out of this campsite. The view was nice and you’re literally inches from the river. It was 30F when we stayed but I would love to return in the warmer months and get in the river or kayak.

We booked via Airbnb and the owner was very helpful and friendly.

Camp Driftwood

I found this campground through airbnb. They have tent camping as well as two cottages. The cottages are titled "Paddlers Paradise- Camp Driftwood Cottage" and have cable TV, a laptop friendly work space, heating, air conditioning, and a private entrance. The tent camping sites are titled "Camp Site- Camp Driftwood" and have fire rings, picnic tables, and access to a shared bathhouse and common area. Both of these have free parking and are located right on the French Broad River. The water is easily accessible and tubing is frequently seen along the bank. The entrance to the area is directly off the road, but has a VERY steep decline immediately following. Be cautious in driving too far up the bank as the path becomes soft, especially after a good rain. Overall, a small and personable camping option that is worth a visit!
