River Access made easy

The perks of this campground is the easy river access.  Besides Dingmans camp nearby or others on the NJ side of River, this is the only riverside campground before reaching NY.  The river access alone makes it worth a visit if you plan on kayaking a long stretch and need a home base, like we did. Friendly and attentive staff, clean bathrooms, full camp store, swimming allowed at your own risk.  They offer kayak tours with shuttle service. Small campground stretches up river side with several site options. The sites are very very small and close together.  The lower river front sites offer the best views for tent campers.  The upper RV/camper sites near entrance have some water views but most are obstructed by trees and sit high above river.  You cannot access river from here but it’s an easy short walk down to river access area.  The rest of campground is very cozy with a few sites near a small creek.  It was very quiet during the week, hardly anyone there.  We enjoyed the river almost to ourselves.   The weekends get very busy as most come to swim and bbq. Overall still a very nice spot for a weekend. Our reason for 3 star rating is the size of camp sites and road noise 24/7 due to two busy nearby roads.  We could hear it from anywhere in the campground, and some tents sites sit right along the side of the road.  But, we would stay again for the convenience of river location and accommodating staff.  We stayed in site 130 with 34’ trailer.

Great for camping

Not much to do around the park except walk around. We went on opening day so there weren’t many campers- maybe like 4 or 5. The people in the store were very friendly and the grounds were clean. There was Wi-Fi available but it did not work at all- so be prepared to use your satellite or go off grid since cell service was unavailable or minimum. We had a beautiful view of the river though while camping and enjoyed the trip. The river sites were gravel and level which was nice to not have mud when we got out since it rained all weekend. Electric hookup was good- we did not use the water hookup, but it was available. They have cable boxes, but no cable offered.

Just don’t! Not unless you have to…

Look, I know that it takes all types… but this place is a no go.. Falsely advertised full hook ups to find out the sites are electric/water only. The facilities are completely trashed and moldy with no sign of up keep… They make you wear these ridiculous are bands that get you nothing… They just mark you separate as a camper vs the people coming for water sports… This place is marketed toward tent campers so there are minimal spots for RVers, and yet they allow tent campers to set up in the few RV sites. First night we had a family of 10 show up at 10:40pm to start setting up their tent campsites in an rv spot, and they partied way into the wee hours of morning… Second day was a Friday and it just became significantly worse. No one holds campers accountable to quiet times here, and please don’t take it the wrong way because my husband and I love to have fun, but at 2 am, it’s a little excessive… every site is completely trashed when everyone leaves and they’ve only got one real employee that seems to be busting his butt around the campground… my last complaint would have to be that the park services and EMS kept showing up to try and apprehend these fanboat people in the river. Otherwise it has the potential to be one of the most beautiful parks we have stayed this far.

Worst place to camp

If your looking for a relaxing weekend an space to stretch, this is not your place. There is no structure an everyone is literally on top of one another. The fact that you have to pay per person as oppose to per camp site is utterly insane. The restrooms are out dated. The workers don’t know anything an are very rude. Please do not waste your money.

Loud, no rules

No pool, play ground, dirt sites. This campground caters to river rafting. If you want a prime tent site (one near the river) you need to pay for river rafting packages. There is no enforcement of noise, and it seems no limits to people per campsite (larges parties on the sites.) Only two bath houses so they can get pretty overwhelmed when the campground is busy. Security is a big concern, gates are open along the campground from the road so anyone can enter and leave all hours of the night. Will not be returning.

Party zone

We stayed here the summer of 2019. We brought our pop up camper and two teenage kids. They didn’t have any activities and no pool so the girls were bored plus the site was so loud at night with parties and loud music. The music started back up first thing in the morning so sleep wasn’t an option. We were able to move our site but it was not enjoyable. The bathrooms were filthy and lots of traffic coming in and out for their rafting business. I do not recommend if you are looking for relaxation.
