Family activities: Eagles Landing Resort & Recreation provides options beyond just water recreation. "This campground felt a bit like a summer camp. There is a good sized pool, a pond with a couple of kayaks and pedal boats, and an (aging) mini golf course," says Stephen K.

Lake views: Sites at Grand Lake O' the Cherokees RV Resort offer scenic vantage points. "Cedar Oaks is a very easy campground to find and get into... This site had a large lawn area due to site 91 being decommissioned because of flooding a while back. We enjoyed a very nice lake view as this site is probably the best site in the park," writes MickandKarla W.

Site placement considerations: The location of your campsite can significantly affect your experience. "The sites are closer than I prefer and it feels a bit crowded, but we still enjoyed it. The spaces are packed tightly so there really is no room to spread out & enjoy," notes Jeremy C.

Seasonal fluctuations: Off-peak camping provides a different experience. "There weren't any people during the week. It was nice and peaceful. You can put your camping chairs down by the lake and sit. Not a good place to fish, unless you have a boat. The lake is shallow quite a ways," explains Barb T.

Wildlife awareness: Some campgrounds have active wildlife. "Im here annually and love it but let me warn you of the raccons. I left my van a few hours at night and they got in and tore the place up! They got in the back pop open window," warns Ramblin R.

Campground has a large pavilion which can be rented. The pavilion has a huge BBQ grill. Campground has a small playground for the kids," notes Dexter I.

Summer crowds: Many popular spots get busy during peak season. "This place was very quaint and exceptionally close to the lake. However, in the summer the day use areas are PACKED," cautions Kristie P.

Family-oriented parks: Some campgrounds specially cater to family gatherings. "We come here and stay every summer! They have good size places you can stay as a family, as well as lots of RV spots. We absolutely love the mini golf course and game facility," shares Brittany G.

Tips from RVers

Hookup logistics: Be prepared for utility connection challenges. "The electrical and water hookup for most sites was a strangely long run, so bring a long extension cord and hose," advises Stephen K.

RV pad quality: Concrete pads at most Grand Lake campgrounds provide stable parking. "Nice quiet campground on Grand Lake. Spots are spacious on back-in concrete pads. Each spot has 50/30/20 power, bbq grill, fire ring, picnic table and light on the power pole," reports Rebecca B.

Trailer parking: Overflow areas accommodate boat trailers at many of the best places to camp near Afton, Oklahoma. "Very nice overall, very easy access to Grand Lake and Cherokee Casino. Sites are good size and have full hookups. Good overflow parking for trailers," notes John F.
