      Nice clean campground

Spent one night at this campground. Grounds were clean, restrooms and showers were also clean. The check in office was inviting and pleasing. We didn’t use the laundry facility while we were there, but they are available should the need arise. Bathrooms were locked and secure and passcode was required to enter. Passcode was provided upon check in. Our site was a pull through level gravel pad with full hookups. The off leash dog park was a small fenced in area with a couple of benches. Horse track and casino were well within walking distance from the camp sites. Quiet location, just off the highway. Highway could not be heard from inside our camper.

We were just passing through and stayed for a night. We had sewer, water, and electric hookup. A nice dog park, and even found some 4 leaf clovers!

      Stage Stop Campground

      Love this campground!!

We stayed here twice our first night and last night of our two week road trip. The place is well maintained and peaceful. Decorated like an old western town. Laundry facilities are available. The dog park was the best our whole road trip. We have three dogs that range from 4.5 lbs to 45 lbs. they had room to play and they were safe. The staff are very friendly. Highly recommended.

      Big Red Barn RV Park

Very convenient, super clean and quiet

We overnighted here on the way to Hot Springs, AR.  Convenient to Interstate 49, but virtually no traffic noise and none while inside the van.  We arrived after the office had closed - there was a prominent note on the door as to which site to use.   Electrical hookup was fine - we did not use water or cable.  There were about a dozen other  campers - most appeared to be long termers.  The CG was VERY quiet - very peaceful.  They have an off-leash dog park area which our dogs loved and used it 3-4 times the nite we were there.  The bathrooms were toasty warm and VERY clean.  Lavatory hot water got warm quickly, plenty of soap and towels.  The office has various items for sale, from snacks to RV gear.  Would not hesitate to stay again - in fact, may do so next week on our return trip.

      Claremore Expo RV Park

      In town Rv lot

I wouldn’t say this is camping. The people that usually stay here are in town for events at the Expo or driving thru. There is a lot to do nearby. TWithin walking distance there’s the expo center (you can go in and pet horses) and a Rec center with a pool. You can go to Will Rogers Museum, JM Davis fun museum, RSU has a nice little hiking trail as does the Lake.

      Natural Falls State Park Campground

      Gorgeous place

I go here with my friends every summer we hike almost all the trails , it’s gorgeous last time I went there (summer of 23) we saw a wild river otter swimming there is so much wildlife out there and it’s just gorgeous absolutely stunning and worth visiting, family friends and dog / pet friendly if you want to take your dogs on a hike this is the place , has stairs and is not very handicapped accessible if you want to go to the bottom of the falls but it is completely accessible for a wheelchair if you just want to view the falls from the top and there are multiple handicapped accessible paved paths !

    Guide to Afton

Camping near Afton, Oklahoma centers around Grand Lake O' the Cherokees, with its 46,500 surface acres of water and 1,300 miles of shoreline. The area experiences hot summers with average July temperatures reaching 93°F, while spring and fall offer milder conditions ideal for outdoor activities. Most campgrounds sit at elevations between 740-780 feet above sea level, creating relatively flat camping terrain with easy lake access.

    What to do

Boating and water sports: Multiple boat ramps provide direct lake access at Eagles Landing Resort & Recreation, where "very easy access to Grand Lake" makes it convenient to spend days on the water. Good overflow parking accommodates boat trailers.

Fishing opportunities: The area where Spring River and Neosho River join creates prime fishing conditions near Twin Bridges State Rec Area. "This is a lovely campground that sits between two rivers. There's two boat ramps that give quick access to Grand Lake, Spring River, or The Neosho River," reports one camper.

Recreational amenities: Many campgrounds offer on-site activities beyond water recreation. "There is horseshoes, volleyball, and a nice playground for entertainment. There is a fish cleaning station," notes a reviewer about Twin Bridges State Rec Area.

    What campers like

Waterfront camping: Waters Edge RV & Cabin Resort offers sites with unique water access. "Having a picnic and campfire area right next to the water was a unique experience for a campground," one camper notes. Another mentions, "Most, if not all, spots have decks overlooking the water."

Clean facilities: Pine Island RV Resort maintains well-kept shower and bathroom facilities. A regular visitor mentions, "The bathroom & shower facilities are always clean, with excellent water pressure, and hot water."

Quiet setting: Despite being near attractions, many campgrounds maintain a peaceful atmosphere. At Gopher Valley Campground, campers appreciate the tranquility: "It's the middle of week and it's very quiet here at GV10. The site backs up to the woods."

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Some campgrounds have unclear reservation systems. At Twin Bridges State Rec Area, one camper cautions: "Be careful does not say anywhere about reservations. We had been set up and kicking back for over 3 hours before the RUDEST ranger came and told us our site was reserved she just hadnt put up sign yet."

Wildlife encounters: Wildlife can be an issue at certain campgrounds. At Honey Creek Area of Grand Lake State Park, campers should secure food properly: "Im here annually and love it but let me warn you of the raccons... I left my van a few hours at night and they got in and tore the place up!"

Site differences: Campground layouts vary significantly in terms of privacy and amenities. At Pine Island RV Resort, "The park is in the woods so almost all the spaces are shaded by beautiful old growth trees. We prefer this to the glorified parking lots that so many newer rv parks have become."

    Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Honey Creek Area - Grand Lake State Park offers multiple water recreation possibilities. One visitor notes it's "a great park with a pool and lake swimming access," providing options for children of different swimming abilities.

Entertainment amenities: Some campgrounds offer dedicated family recreation options. At Eagles Landing Resort, a camper reports: "This campground felt a bit like a summer camp. There is a good sized pool, a pond with a couple of kayaks and pedal boats, and an (aging) mini golf course."

Playground access: For families with young children, select campgrounds with dedicated play areas. Gopher Valley Campground includes "a small playground for the kids" among its amenities, making it easier to entertain children during downtime at camp.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup placement: At Waters Edge RV & Cabin Resort, RVers should note: "One thing you will want to note is that you may need an electrical extension if you're bringing a towable as the electric is on the opposite side from the sewer and water."

Level sites: Most campgrounds around Afton feature relatively level sites. At Regatta On Grand, RVers appreciate the "Beautiful point on Grand Lake to park with pads," though some note that "it's right off the highway so there is some road noise."

Site size considerations: Grand Lake O' the Cherokees RV Resort accommodates larger rigs well. A reviewer notes, "Sites are good size and can accommodate large rigs. Full hookups, nice common area.. easy access to launch ramps."
