Punderson State Park Campground accommodates pet owners with designated pet-friendly sites throughout its wooded camping area. Dogs must remain leashed and under control at all times while exploring the grounds. The campground features a variety of accommodation options including tent sites, RV spots with electric hookups, and glamping opportunities where pets are welcome. Picnic tables and fire rings are standard at each site, giving campers and their four-legged companions a comfortable base for outdoor adventures. The sites are set among large trees providing natural shade during summer months, though some tent sites require carrying gear uphill from parking areas. The campground maintains clean facilities with bathrooms and showers available for all guests.

Hiking trails throughout Punderson State Park welcome leashed dogs, making morning and evening walks convenient for pet owners. The nearby lake offers fishing opportunities, though swimming access may be limited during summer months due to occasional algae blooms. The surrounding park includes a disc golf course, archery range, and boat rentals for additional recreation options. Wildlife activity is common in the area, with raccoons and coyotes occasionally observed near campsites, requiring proper food storage for pet safety. When planning longer stays, Perry Township Park and Geneva State Park Campground provide additional pet-friendly alternatives within driving distance, both offering electric hookups and picnic amenities. Big Creek Park features cabin options for those seeking more sheltered accommodations with pets.

Great for the price and location

Stayed here to be close to the NP and it is a great little campground for a reasonable price. Big dog park with pond on the other side of the park. Sites are uneven but my favorite part was the wooded path.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Nice campground near Cuyahoga

We were in the area exploring Cuyahoga Nat Park and found Silver Springs. It was 18$ for a site with electric hook ups (15$ if you are a Stow resident) No option for no paying less for no hook-up camping. Water close by and port a pottie style bathrooms close to the camp sites. There are flush toilets a walk away but we didn’t use them. Sites are big and grassy but not super level. Wasn’t a big issue for us but could be for a bigger camper. The campground was calm and quiet. Lots of trails close by. Dog park down the street as well as a play ground and fishing pond! We had a great few days staying here and will be back if we are even passing thru Stow again.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Lots of options!

We really loved this little spot! It appealed to all of what we were looking for, our camp host was awesome. There was even a dog park within walking distance- a lot of trails to explore too. No showers and the Porto potties weren't the cleanest... But they were functional. Very hospitable locals- we were invited to a square dancing party that evening in the park! Very comfy and safe.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Great parking

The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers, however there is THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area. So my dogs loved this campground more than me and that was worth it. It was dark enough to see a space station cross the sky at night. The camping spaces are rather close, but so many people want to camp there, because of its proximity to everything amazing.

The area features a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons and moderate rainfall throughout the year. Campers near Waite Hill can access Lake Erie shorelines within a 20-30 minute drive north, while inland areas offer woodlands and creek-side camping opportunities.

    What to Do

Disc golf courses: Punderson State Park offers an archery range and disc golf course for campers seeking recreational activities. "The camp is beautiful. Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoing/kayaking/row boats, swimming (no lifeguard) and golf," notes Rebecca G. about Punderson State Park Campground.

Fishing opportunities: Lake Erie Bluffs features scenic camping with water access for fishing enthusiasts. "Able to watch Eagles soaring over Lake Erie listening to the waves hit the bluff below! Stayed at campsite B but we were able to look at A also," shares Jessica R. about Lake Erie Bluffs.

Hiking trails: The West Woods offers multiple trail options for different skill levels. "Great small park with a hiking trail that takes about an hour or hour and a half, it has a waterfall, small tiny cave, bridges and stairs. Really well maintained paths, tiny gravel for less mud," explains Kayla S. about her experience at The West Woods.

    What Campers Like

Waterfront views: Perry Township Park offers unmatched Lake Erie waterfront sites. "Perry Township Park campground is exactly what campground should be: great accommodations, beautiful views, tremendous service, and easy accessibility to a lot of fun stuff," writes Brannon M. about Perry Township Park.

Spacious sites: Hidden Lakes Family Campground provides generous camping space for those who prefer room to spread out. "Our site was lakeside and was probably the largest campsite I ever stayed in. Some areas where not as big, especially the pull through sites toward the front, but most of the sites on the back side were large," reports Greg K.

Wildlife viewing: The natural settings around Waite Hill offer excellent wildlife spotting opportunities. "Able to watch Eagles soaring over Lake Erie listening to the waves hit the bluff below," notes Jessica R. about Lake Erie Bluffs. For bird enthusiasts, sites are available where "TONS OF BIRDS you will hear them all day long and see all sorts of different kinds," according to Zachary A.

    What You Should Know

Site terrain varies significantly: At Punderson State Park, tent sites may require extra effort. "Nice shaded tent sites but you'll have to haul your stuff uphill & then it's not too private," warns Renée C. Similarly, at Geneva State Park Campground, "the sites were paved and spaced decently," according to Bran P.

Water accessibility challenges: Not all lakeside campgrounds offer direct water access. At Lake Erie Bluffs, a reviewer notes: "No direct access to water from sites but swimming areas and dog beach within the park!"

Bathroom facilities differ widely: Facilities range from basic to modern. At Perry Township Park, "the bathrooms were well maintained!" while The West Woods offers more primitive options. As Zachary A. notes about Penitentiary Glen: "Toilet is by the parking lot. No running water."

    Tips for Camping with Families

Playground amenities: Multiple campgrounds offer dedicated play areas for children. "The park is very well maintained, has a nice playground and cute camp store," Daniel U. mentions about Punderson State Park.

Educational opportunities: Nature centers provide learning experiences. As Kayla S. notes about The West Woods: "There's also a short overlook path that starts at the nature center."

Kid-friendly hiking: Several parks feature accessible trails for younger campers. "This is a good campground for families. We tent camped here. The sites are pretty far apart and you feel secluded but, at the same time, the bathrooms are close by," explains Jenny K. about Punderson State Park.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the region have uneven terrain. At Punderson State Park, one RVer notes: "The lots are not even close the level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level. Saw one RV with auto levelers with his tire about foot off the ground."

Electric hookup limitations: Power options vary significantly between parks. At Silver Springs Campground, "Only 3-30 amp hooks ups, the rest are 20 amp," shares Judy F., which is important for RVers with higher power requirements.

Site selection strategy: When booking pet friendly camping near Waite Hill, Ohio, carefully review site specifications. At Hidden Lakes Family Campground, a reviewer advises: "Most sites looked pretty level. Ours sloped up toward the road, but our trailer was not log enough for it to be an issue."
