    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Mohican State Park Campground and Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins welcome pets across all accommodation types including tents, RVs, cabins, and glamping options. Charles Mill Lake Park Campground provides lakefront sites where campers can bring their dogs to enjoy the shoreline, with clean shower facilities and bathrooms nearby. Most campgrounds in the area require pets to remain on leash at all times and owners must clean up after their animals. Ashland Fairgrounds offers basic pet-friendly tent and RV sites for $20-$35 with nearby bathrooms, though no shower facilities are available. Findley State Park Campground and Pleasant Hill Lake Park also maintain pet-friendly policies throughout their grounds. Many campgrounds enforce quiet hours to minimize barking disturbances. Sites at Charles Mill are well-maintained with deer often visiting in the morning.

Hiking trails throughout the Mohican region provide excellent opportunities for dog walking, with most requiring leashes no longer than six feet. The swimming pond at Hickory Lakes Campground features a sandy bottom and clean water where some pets may be permitted to swim in designated areas. Cleveland/Sandusky Jellystone Park includes numerous activities for families camping with pets, though the facilities have reportedly declined since ownership changed in 2021. During summer months, ensure pets have adequate shade and water access at campsites. Most campgrounds supply water hookups at or near sites, making it convenient to keep pets hydrated. Wildlife encounters are possible in the region, so keeping dogs leashed helps prevent unwanted interactions with local fauna. Eagles Point area offers more rustic, natural beauty with numerous trees providing shade for pets during hot weather.

      Beautiful area

Whispering Hills Jellystone is a great location for family fun. I can not say enough about how accommodating and helpful the staff was during our visits. There is plenty of activities for families and the dog park was a bonus.

      Middle Ridge/Vermilion Valley Rest Area

Hook up, dump station, quiet and immaculate rest stop ad well.

This is a test area on the Ohio Turnpike. Rv owners can self pay $20 to stay overnight. Quiet area away from the semis and common parking lot, but super close still to the plaza. The plaza offers 5 restaurants and vending machines, a gift shop, and clean restrooms. Sufficient area to exercise pets.

      Sandusky-Bayshore KOA

      Nice campground

We have stayed here twice and will definitely be back. Both times at the end of September. Nice campground, friendly staff, store is well stocked for anything you may have forgotten. The playground and jump mat for kids is awesome. They usually have some kind of activity for kids on weekends. We travel with 2 large Labrador retrievers and love being able to let them play off leash in the kamp k9 dog park. The sites are a little close together and the train is loud but other than that, it’s a wonderful place to stay. Very close to Cedar Point.

      Mt Gilead State Park Campground

      Tiny and close

This campground wasn’t level and the spots are so tiny I should have stayed at the KOA across the street for larger spots. That’s how small these are here. Our spot is on an incline. Full hookups are nice but dog poop galore. The pet owners here (not all of them) just let there dogs go anywhere and leave it. Sad. The camp store is nice and the staff is friendly. Restrooms are clean too.

      Butler-Mohican KOA

Rustic, quiet, beautiful in the Fall

This campground had some rough edges last time I visited (5 years ago). There was a pool and water slide but it was closed in octover when we visited. There are basic restrooms/showers but the water pressure was not so good. There were cabins and sites for tents and campers. My kids liked the playground and pet goats the best. There is a lake for fishing but mosquitos were BAD on our visit. Close to the beautiful Mohican State Park

    Guide to Ashland

Camping near Ashland, Ohio offers diverse options across the region's wooded hills and lake areas. Summer temperatures range from 60-85°F, with higher humidity in July and August. Most campgrounds in the area maintain year-round operations, though amenities may be limited during winter months when temperatures can drop below freezing.

    What to do

Hiking trails with waterfalls: Mohican State Park Campground features extensive trail systems with natural waterfalls. "Lots of hiking trails and waterfalls. Free hike-in camping available here too," notes Nicole K. about Mohican State Park Campground.

Fishing opportunities: Charles Mill Lake provides multiple fishing spots throughout the grounds. A visitor mentions, "There is a lake with a boat launch near by a playground and beach for families to swim. Kid friendly activities available while we were there," according to Katelyn P., who stayed at Charles Mill Lake Park Campground.

Tubing and canoeing: The Mohican River offers various water activities accessible from nearby campgrounds. One reviewer shared their experience: "Across the street they have a Canoe livery, mini golf, go carts, ropes course and lots more. So much to do!!"

    What campers like

Clean, modern facilities: Findley State Park Campground maintains well-kept shower houses. A recent visitor noted, "I stayed here on a road trip and got in relatively late, around 8:30. Good signage to the camping sites, very easy to navigate. There's a bathroom/shower house near the sites, as well as a fire ring at each individual site," as Evan D. reported at Findley State Park Campground.

Waterfront sites: Camping directly along the water remains popular at several locations. "Water view on both sides and sites are nice sized and not right on top of each other," says Danielle T. about her experience at Charles Mill Lake Park.

Swimming ponds: Hickory Lakes Campground features a natural swimming area with clean water. One camper shared, "We had fun in the swimming pond, it was quiet and easy to sleep, clean restrooms and showers a short walk from our site. Water spigot and electric at every site," from Rebekah N. at Hickory Lakes Campground.

    What you should know

Seasonal campsite availability: Many campgrounds have limited non-seasonal sites during peak periods. "Very nice campground. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance," advises Jeffrey L.

Winter camping options: Several parks remain open year-round with limited facilities. "Another Thanksgiving spent in our camper and it was so nice and relaxing. There were more campers than expected this weekend. This particular park has potable water on by the dump station and the dump station is open. The water at the full hook up sites are turned off," notes Andrea F. about winter stays at Mohican.

Budget options: Ashland Fairgrounds offers basic camping for travelers on a budget. "Ashland fairgrounds has $20 tent sites or $35 full hookups. You may need an extension cord. All back in sites. Bathrooms are open and close by. No showers. Very clean and quiet," explains Charles K. from Ashland Fairgrounds.

    Tips for camping with families

Look for campgrounds with playgrounds: Pleasant Hill Lake Park includes multiple play areas. A camper mentioned, "There are two basketball courts on either side of the park and a few playgrounds. Overall great camping," according to Michelle H. from Pleasant Hill Lake Park Campground.

Consider tent-friendly sites: Tent camping works well for families at specific locations. "As far as tent camping goes, it does not get any easier than this. Everything is clean and well organized. Perfect for first time campers," shares Jenny K. about her experience at Mohican State Park.

Swimming options for children: Multiple locations feature beach areas or swimming ponds. One visitor explained, "The lake is an all sport lake so there is fishing, tubing, jet skis and kayaking. The marina has boat rentals available."

    Tips from RVers

Site levelness varies: Some campgrounds have uneven terrain that requires preparation. "The sites were small, very uneven and dirty. We saw seasonal campers with four and five cinder blocks holding up one corner or another," reports Hillary W.

Full hookup availability: Several campgrounds offer complete services. "We stayed on site 304 which was electric only by choice and when we return we will opt for full hook up since those sites look brand new," notes Korinne K. from Pleasant Hill Lake Park.

Cell service considerations: Coverage can be limited in wooded areas. "No cell service with Verizon at this park," mentions Andrea F. about Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins, which may affect those needing connectivity.
