    Charles Mill Lake Park Campground

    mixed feelings 😕

Upon arrival friendly staff greeted us. Bath houses are clean and well maintained.  Our site was not clean and ready.  Picnic table looked like it was not cleaned since last season and the fire pit was full of rubbish.  Had campers behind us who played music so loud we couldn't hear each other talk.  I asked the gentleman to please turn it down and they did slightly. Another camper also asked them to turn it down and again it was very slight.  Well after midnight music continued.  No park ranger made rounds until Saturday morning and throughout the day.

The lake is gorgeous this weekend and we enjoyed riding bikes and walking the park.

May be back to try again.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Camp Sandusky

    Very nice campgrounds!

There is so much structure and order to this campground! The grounds are laid out so nicely! One big circle with cross roads all along the way. You can camp however you'd like too! They have RV sites, tent sites and cabins. All mixed in together so you can travel with all your favorite campers. They do breakfast every morning in the front pavilion for $4.50 (all you can eat pancakes, 1 sausage and coffee) I haven't tried it yet, but its certainly popular. Laundry is open 24 hours a day and in an open area. Not the biggest fan of that due to needing to do laundry in the rain. Bathrooms are clean and standard. Row of toilet stalls and showers in a separate room. They have a stellar playground area, I don't have kids but even I was drawn to wanting to play on it. Very pet friendly around here. Close to downtown, near Cedar Point and all the other attractions over here. They have 2 pools, one being heated. We haven't had a bad rain storm while we're here but you can tell by the ground of our spot its going to be bad and super muddy. All in all this campground is pretty awesome.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

Great stay at an amusement park

This property is as close as you can get to cedar point amusement park. Tons of amenities, 5 star all the way. Shuttle service to the gates (although it is walkable too) pool area, beach, paved sites, some have lake views. Ultimate patio sites have their own table, chairs and fire pits as well. Well stocked camp store open 24 hours and very clean bath houses. Be sure to book as far in advance as possible as they fill up quick.

    Pleasant Hill Lake Park Campground

Nice Quiet Campground with a lot to Offer

We arrived Friday late afternoon and set up in the rain. Didn’t see much of the park on Friday,  but Saturday we went exploring and saw the marina, beach, horse camp area, and walked some of the bridle trails. They also have playgrounds that are open and some food trucks in case you don’t want to cook.

This is the second park we have stayed at that is part of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District and so far I am impressed. Large landscape sites that are full hookup with large concrete pads. Each with its own picnic table and fire pit. They also have a boat dock for the campers to use.   The lightning bugs even put on a nightly show.

    Milan Travel Park

    Wonderfully updated!

This campground has been wonderfully updated! The owners have added in an additional playground, dog park, newly paved roadways, newly redone building, a new pavilion, fire pit, and boat parking! We love camping here every chance we get! It is convenient to the turnpike and Cedar Point is just a few miles away!

    Camp Sandusky

    Overall great!

    Positives:

    • Clean
    • Very close to Cedar Point Park
    • Friendly staff
    • All you can eat pancake breakfast ($5)
    • Water and electrical access
    • Easy highway access
    • Roads well kept

    Negatives:

    • One of the pools looks terrible (just needs a cover so you can’t see it until it gets cleaned fully)
    • There’s a highway right across the tree line. While this is nice for travel, it was also really loud each morning to wake up to.

    Mohican State Park Campground

Beautiful river, trails, running water in the toilets, yay!

I love Mohican State Park. There is so much to do- canoeing, kayaking, tubing, creeking, and great trails also.

This campground is nice but is crowded in the warmer months. Look for a site along the water, that's where the tree cover is. I stayed in a camper cabin which was very nice, with microwave and refrigerator.

There is running water in the toilets, which is nice for a state park in Ohio. The showers were decent, nothing to complain about there.

The primitive tent camping sites looked nice and peaceful- take care to get a shaded spot, though, as some were just exposed in a grassy field. There is a long bumpy walk from the parking area to the primitive sites, so bring a wagon or sled or something.

    Cardinal Center Campground

    First camping trip 2020

This was our first camping trip after purchasing a new to us fifth wheel camper. We chose the Cardinal Camping Center because it was only 15 miles from our home. We arrived on Thursday afternoon registered and set up at our site. Staff was very friendly and helpful, we shared some fresh veggies from our garden as we had way too much for just us and asked the welcome center to tell people to help themselves to what ever they wanted. we then toured the campgroundand found the stocked fishing lake (catch and release) the indoor swimming pool. The camp also has some very nice cabins, no restrooms in the cabin but they are very close to the public restrooms and shower house. We then went over to the shooting center and tried our luck with some silliolet and metal targets on the pistol range. Thy also have trap and skeet available.

Our site had ful hook-ups 50 amp service with sewer and water picnic table and fire ring for $44 a night. All of the people next to us were very nice and everyone respected each other's sites.

I would go back to this campground again, we even extended our stay an extra day because we had such a good time.

Guide to Ashland

Glamping options near Ashland, Ohio include both primitive and full-service locations within the Mohican region. Campsites range from elevated forest locations to waterfront areas with elevation changes between 900-1,200 feet. Winter temperatures can drop below freezing while summer days typically reach 75-85°F, making spring through fall the most popular camping seasons for visitors seeking luxury camping experiences.

What to do

Primitive hiking access: Mohican-Memorial State Forest offers free backcountry camping with Park and Pack sites accessible by foot. "The Park & Pack sites were a bit confusing online, so I decided on a solo exploratory trip before bringing my 9yr out... I stayed at Campsite 3, which was beautiful, tucked off of the trail beside a wide stream. Fair warning, you do have to cross a stream to get to it," notes Ryan R. at Park and Pack Campsite 3.

Canoe livery activities: Visitors staying at luxury accommodations can access water recreation directly. "Across the street they have a Canoe livery, mini golf, go carts, ropes course and lots more. So much to do!!" reports Lo H. from Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins.

Educational farm tours: Beyond standard outdoor recreation, Malabar Farm offers unique agricultural experiences. "Louis Bromfield was a conservationist and among many other things (including winning a Pulitzer) he was in the forefront of organic and self-sustaining gardening. This place is amazing! (and would be an excellent home schoolers camping trip!)," writes Shelly S., noting it's "not your typical going hiking kinda campground."

What campers like

Lakefront placement: Many glamping accommodations provide direct water access. "Beautiful lake with lakeside sites. Wooden and peaceful," reports Janice C. about Charles Mill Lake Park Campground, adding that "they were working on part of the grounds and the improvements are very promising."

Year-round indoor amenities: Some luxury camping locations offer climate-controlled spaces regardless of weather. "The staff is friendly and the indoor pool and shower houses were amazing. The sites seemed a little small so it might feel crowded during peak season," notes Renee L. about Mohican Adventures Campground.

Varied terrain options: Campers appreciate different site configurations based on privacy preferences. "We stayed on the Eaglepiont side. It's opposite the main campground up the mile about .5 mile. The sites are not as modern but have more trees and natural beauty. The main campground is most cement pads and no shade," explains Joseph E. from Pleasant Hill Lake Park Campground.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: First-come sites are limited in this region. "A short distance from the main campground, the B class campground features first come availability, 'walk up' spots. Quotes, because each site has a parking spot and is easily accessed by car. No level ground to be found, but far fewer neighbors than the A class, main campground," says Jared H. from Mohican State Park Campground.
