Waynesville RV parks provide full-hookup options with varying site dimensions and amenities. Creekwood Farm RV Park features spacious sites with 30/50-amp service, water, and sewer connections for easy setup. "Sites are fairly close together but they do have some options that are more spaced out," noted one camper about the region's parks. Pride RV Resort offers big rig friendly sites with concrete pads and 50-amp electrical service, while Trails End RV Park maintains year-round availability with pull-through sites but limited amenities. Stonebridge RV Resort positions RVs along Jonathan Creek with premium creekside spaces that have more room behind each site.

Mountain roads around several parks require careful navigation, particularly for larger motorhomes approaching Maggie Valley. Cell service remains strong at most locations with multiple reviewers noting "excellent WiFi performance" and good Verizon coverage throughout the region. Dump stations are available at Creekwood Farm, Pride RV Resort, and Wilson's Riverfront, though some parks like Trails End lack bathroom facilities, requiring self-contained units. Pet policies vary by location—most parks welcome pets but enforce leash requirements and designated dog areas. During peak fall foliage season, advance reservations become essential as parks throughout the Smoky Mountains reach capacity quickly, especially for premium creekside or pull-through spaces.

      North Mills River

This location can’t be beat. Nestled between Asheville and Brevard, close to Pisgah NF and Sierra Nevada brewing! We loved the access to fishing here, even though we didn’t catch anything. The streams were pristine, the campground very well kept and the hosts were kind. And our dog obviously loved it!

      Rutledge Lake RV Resort

This is almost a perfect park. Sites are a little tight, pond is nice, but geese were on another level. So loud at 3-5am it woke us up and kept us up. Our neighbors were also inconsiderately loud at 4-6am. We thought they were pulling out the first time and gave a pass, but it was 4 straight days. This was only place at the time time that had sites. Definitely pretty more scenic parks. We book 2 days out. Staff is super friendly and price wasn’t bad last minute.

Camp Margaritaville RV Resort & Lodge

Showers give you maybe 20 seconds of warm ish water. The. Pretty much tap temps. Amazingly it’s still completely fogs up the bathhouse mirrors due to the inadequate exhaust. That may. Be due to the temp, exhaust, and venting strings are easily manipulated by one of the million children in the “Resort”. It’s not a resort in any way. It’s a campground that has really nice pads. Marginal hookups. Lots and lots and lots of bears. Big BIG bears. I’m a bear hunter. There isn’t one I’ve seen that isn’t a legit Pope and Young. The toilets are clean. The floor and showers are gross. The lazy river is cold. Hot tube warm. If you are a camper spending $250 a night and a resort fee per person, you still don’t get given a towel to use the pool. Front desk actually said the towels were NOT for campers but for “ hotel resort” guest. So why am I paying the fee? We stayed here because it was a Margaretaville property. There are many other nicer and cheaper options in town. It’s expensive. The bar car does not exist. There is wood delivery. But it’s a bundle of twigs for $10. It is dry. The food is Sysco crap and the inside bars are just part of the kids arcade or cafeteria. Live music was super strange. The guy literally was standing in the doorway to the cafeteria bar. Don’t waste your money here. If you do anyway, plan on bears digging thru your stuff every night. Kids? Dogs? And Bears……not good.

      Avery Creek Roadside Camping

We were probably lucky, but we drove in on a Monday and found a nice site with the creek/stream burbling in the background. Yes, there is dirt entrance/road and traffic, but not much and way quieter than family campgrounds. This site is my perfect idea of an amazing free off grid camping spot.

      Twin Creek RV Resort

Great Creekside Site and Friendly Staff

We took US-321 into the back side of Gatlinburg to avoid the downtown craziness. RV Life GPS guided us directly to Twin Creek RV Resort, while Waze suggested a few shortcuts that we wisely passed on. The campground (CG) entrance was a little tight and downhill, but we had no trouble getting to the office for check-in. One of the very friendly and helpful staff members escorted us to back-in site 14, where backing in was easy. We wanted to lower our toy hauler patio to enjoy the creek running behind the sites, and the staff kindly allowed us to park our F-450 in site 38 across the road to give us more room. Our site had a nice patio area with a long bench, picnic table, and nearby fire pit. CG Wi-Fi was so-so at 6.17 Mbps download. Verizon had 2 bars and T-Mobile had 3 bars, while our T-Mobile Home Internet delivered a respectable 106 Mbps download. There was considerable road noise from US-321, especially during daylight hours, although evenings were noticeably quieter. The fenced dog park was small, but there was plenty of room around the CG to walk our pup. Overall, we enjoyed our creekside site, the helpful staff, and the convenient location away from the busiest part of Gatlinburg.

Elkmont Campground — Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Beautiful spot in the smoky mountains. State park style amenities, no showers. No hookups. Very busy very open campground. Nice that some trails are walking distance from campground. I would not camp here again as I prefer more separation and privacy. No cell service. STARLINK is usable but obstructed with tree canopy

      Franklin RV Park and Campground

We stayed for a week in late October. Quiet and secluded but right outside of Franklin. Very. Nicely decorated. Has small campstore, very nice laundryroom, and a guest event center. Rick, the campsite host, helped me get backed in and asked if I needed any more help. Some pull-throughs. Some sites are a little tight but others really nice. We will definitely come back.

    Guide to Waynesville

RV sites near Waynesville, North Carolina sit at elevations between 2,600-3,500 feet in the Great Smoky Mountains, offering campers cooler summer temperatures than nearby lowland areas. The region experiences distinct seasons with fall foliage typically peaking in mid-October. Most campgrounds around Waynesville stay open year-round, though winter camping requires preparation for occasional snow and nighttime temperatures that can drop below freezing.

    What to do

Waterfront activities: Jonathan Creek flows through several campgrounds, providing fishing and wading opportunities. At Creekwood Farm RV Park, campers can access the creek directly from their sites. "There is also a creek running through the back of the property and there are many sites along the creek," notes Joe B.

Mountain biking trails: Within 30 minutes of Waynesville RV parks, cyclists can access multiple trail systems. Rutledge Lake RV Resort visitors appreciate the proximity to regional trails. "We enjoyed visiting some of the amazing mt bike trails and parks in the area," shared Christopher G., while another camper noted "Great place to stay if you like mountain biking with DuPont and pisgah national forest being close by."

Live entertainment: Several RV parks in the area host regular events during peak season. "When we arrived, we noticed a lot of vintage campers and later found out it was a vintage camper show that weekend. Then on Saturday night, there was a live band! It was amazing," reports one Creekwood Farm visitor.

    What campers like

Private bathrooms: Unlike standard campground facilities with shared shower stalls, Rutledge Lake RV Resort offers individual bathroom units. "The bathrooms are very nice, second only to Disney," says Lani N., while another camper at Creekwood Farm described "amazing, individual bathrooms, very roomy and oh so clean."

Creek sounds: Waterfront sites along Jonathan Creek provide natural white noise that enhances sleep quality. Harold W. from Creekwood Farm noted, "Many creek side spots. All are back in. 30,50 amp power, sewer and cable TV hookups." Another camper at Wilson's Riverfront RV Park mentioned, "We had a spot by the stream which sounded awesome at night, lulling you to sleep."

Recreational facilities: Beyond standard amenities, some parks offer additional activities onsite. "The entrance is key card only, the park staff are welcoming & helpful. They have a heated pool & lake activities," reports J M. at Rutledge Lake. Another visitor added, "Nice pond that you can fish in as well."

    What you should know

Limited facilities at some parks: Not all Waynesville area RV parks offer full amenities. At Trails End RV Park, "make sure you have your own toilet facilities... there is no bath house," warns Myron C. Self-contained units are essential at certain locations.

Seasonal booking challenges: Beyond fall foliage season mentioned in the existing description, summer weekends also fill quickly. "We stayed here on the way back from our multi campground Minnesota trip. On my second day here, I already booked a full week 2 months later," reports one camper about planning ahead.

Mountain driving considerations: Access to some campgrounds requires navigating steep grades. As Shannon B. noted about her experience at Jellystone Park, "The only thing I really didn't enjoy was pulling the travel trailer through the mountainous terrain." Large rigs should research specific route recommendations.

    Tips for camping with families

Waterfront site selection: For families with children, waterfront sites provide built-in entertainment. At Gatlin Ridge RV Park, "A short drive to local waterfalls, rafting and tubing" provides additional water-based recreation options according to Jake R.

Safety considerations: Some campgrounds have terrain features requiring extra supervision. One visitor to Wilson's Riverfront noted, "Ditches dug on sites which could have been dangerous for kids." Always inspect your site upon arrival.

Kid-friendly activities: Several campgrounds offer scheduled family events. "We camped around halloween and the entire campground has trick or treating for the kids on Saturdays. Clean, friendly and really great for kids," reports John A. about Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: RV pads in the mountains often require leveling equipment. Ray & Terri F. noted at Rutledge Lake, "Some of the internal resort roads are in need of resurfacing, as there are quite a few potholes." At Bear Creek RV Park, campers reported that "all sites vary in length" and "the sites were all very unlevel."

Satellite reception limitations: Mountain terrain can block satellite signals. One RVer at Rutledge Lake reported, "We had no DISH satellite coverage in our site, but other more open sites should. Unfortunately, the cable service was marginal at best." Check with management about best sites for connectivity.

Spacing between sites: Site spacing varies significantly between parks. At Asheville's Bear Creek RV Park & Campground, campers note, "Sites are close together" while another mentioned, "There is not a lot of space to hangout around your camper outside, in the pull through spots."
