      Franklin RV Park and Campground

We stayed for a week in late October. Quiet and secluded but right outside of Franklin. Very. Nicely decorated. Has small campstore, very nice laundryroom, and a guest event center. Rick, the campsite host, helped me get backed in and asked if I needed any more help. Some pull-throughs. Some sites are a little tight but others really nice. We will definitely come back.

      Ralph J. Andrews Campground

My son, daughter-in-law, and twin grandchildren, and I camped here to watch the full solar eclipse in 2017. We had a beautiful tent site. There was a little playground that the kids really enjoyed and abundant shade at the camping site. Bathrooms were clean, wood for campfires was available, and we had a wonderful time.

Lake Powhatan Glamping — National Forests In North Carolina

This place is a nice campground, quiet and the guests (during our stay) respect others by keeping the noise down. The spaces are set up to maximize privacy between sites. There is no cell phone service (to do this report we are in a picnic area by a small lake and I can get cell as well as internet on my travelfi device) sos is the only access. I normally listen to audio books but not while here. On my computer I could see three others with low signals; they might have had a better device/provider. The spots tend to the small back in typically found in campsites built before RVs got really big, type. There is another camping area I haven’t been to yet and I did see a large over lander (looks indestructible and tall/long) towable head that way and the campground attendant didn’t predict any problems so perhaps there are larger spots elsewhere. This place has single person shower rooms and nice flush toilets. The whole place is set in woodland so it isn’t like a commercial RV place that was more concerned with volume over aesthetics. This is a lovely spot with ample amenities (my space had no hookups) for our type of camping (toilets, trash, quiet neighbors, semi private spaces) just zero phone or internet.

      Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg KOA Campground

      Busy but Nice

This worked well for us while we were visiting Dollywood in our trailer, but we wouldn't stay here if we had been in a different type of site. Cons: Unless you have a site up against the river or on patriot park, you are packed in VERY TIGHT with other people, sometimes with your sliders only a foot or two away from your neighbor's sliders. We were in a site that was "on patriot park", but the few first sites of that type are really just behind the trolley parking lot and pick up with a path behind you (including ours). People are on the other side of the fence walking about two feet behind you all day and pretty late in to the night. Pros: There are lot of trees and campground is very pretty. Super close to Dollywood and other Pigeon Forge points of interest.

      Gateway RV Campground - Tennessee

      A Great Place to Stay

We really enjoyed our stay at Gateway RV Campground! After spending plenty of time on the road, it’s always nice to find somewhere you can park up, relax, and feel at home.

The campground has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and was a great place to unwind.

One of the real bonuses is the trolley that stops right outside the campground office. What a fantastic convenience! It makes getting out and exploring the local area so much easier without having to pack everything up and take the RV. Such a simple touch, but one that makes a big difference when you’re traveling.

We’ve stayed at plenty of RV parks during our travels, and it’s often the little things that make a place stand out.

All in all, a very enjoyable stay, and we’d happily return if we’re passing through the area again. Definitely worth a stop!

      Campfire Lodgings

      The view!

The view is worth it and is as advertised! We were in the first spot as you enter the park. We were concerned with noise, but it was not even an issue.

Our spot was right on the ridge and was stunning. I don’t think I closed the blinds on that side of the trailer.

Loss of star because of the road in/out. It’s one lane gravel and windy. It’s ok as long as you don’t meet anyone on the road. Dryer took 2 cycles to dry 2 towels and a few tshirts.

      The Great Outdoors RV Resort

      Very nice

This is our first time coming here. We booked online, which was simple The campground is very well kept. The sites aren’t any closer together than your average campground. It seems to me that the owners are conscientious about keeping everyone spaced out so you don’t have anyone right on top of you. (The campground was not full during our visit) The only con to this place is you don’t get to pick your site. It’s assigned to you. I will said that I asked specifically for a shady spot & they obliged me. (Very nice owners) Not all of the sites are level but hey, that’s was risers are for 🤷🏻‍♀️ We didn’t have any issues after a couple of well placed risers. Even though the highway is close you don’t notice the traffic noise. It’s very quiet at night. When you arrive & get checked in, someone escorts you to your site & helps get you backed in. They will pick up, fill & return your propane tanks. You just have to leave your tank @ the edge of your camp site. If you leave your trash at the edge of your site they pick it up for you. They will also deliver firewood as well as a fire pit if you don’t have one.

    Guide to Waynesville

The Waynesville area sits at elevations between 2,600-3,500 feet in western North Carolina, creating distinctive camping conditions that change dramatically with the seasons. Fall brings vibrant foliage from mid-October through early November, while summer temperatures typically range 10-15 degrees cooler than nearby lowland areas. Winter camping options remain available at several locations that maintain year-round operations despite occasional mountain snow.

    What to do

Riverside fishing spots: At Indian Creek Campground, campers can fish directly from their sites with a Reservation Fishing permit. "Our site was very spacious right on the creek. The cleanest bathrooms I have seen at a campground," notes Mary B., who particularly enjoyed the convenient riverside access.

Hiking nearby mountains: Many campsites serve as gateways to trail systems. "The campground is beautiful with a mountain stream flowing through the entire campground. Immaculate bathhouses and wonderful owners," reports Ashley M. about Moonshine Creek. The nearby towns provide access to multiple hiking trails within a 30-minute drive.

Swimming in natural pools: Several campgrounds feature natural swimming areas. At Greenbrier Campground, "The swimming hole was a blessing during the hot days! (Think ice bucket challenge). The tubing was fun for the older kids and adults," according to Elizabeth B., highlighting one of the natural water features popular with families.

    What campers like

Private bathroom facilities: Campers consistently praise clean, private bathroom facilities. "Bathrooms and showers were numerous and clean AND air conditioned. Cable and WiFi were added bonuses," says Mark W. about Greenbrier Campground, reflecting the premium amenities available at some locations.

Mountain stream sounds: The calming effect of flowing water enhances the camping experience. At Moonshine Creek Campground, one visitor mentioned, "My site was right next to the stream and little covered bridge. It sounded like it was always raining." This natural sound feature creates a peaceful atmosphere throughout the grounds.

Yurt camping options: For those interested in yurt camping near Waynesville, North Carolina, Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground offers unique accommodations despite its name. "Cute cabins to rent and secluded tent sites, all with a stream running through the middle of the campground," notes Shelly S., describing the variety of stay options including yurts and alternative structures.

    What you should know

Weather considerations: Mountain weather can change quickly. At Lake Powhatan, campers note the variable conditions. "We stayed for six days in March. We loved everything about this campground. The sites are spacious and well spaced, offering more privacy than many locations," reports Heather C., emphasizing the importance of preparation for changing weather.

Site spacing varies: Many campgrounds have sites close together. "The sites are close together BUT so skillfully incorporated into the architecture that you really don't notice," explains Brian F. about Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground, showing how site design can enhance privacy despite proximity.

Highway noise impacts: Some campgrounds experience road noise. "The only reason for the four star rating is due to the highway noise from I-40, which is located adjacent to the campground. Otherwise, the campground is very well-kept with friendly staff," notes Crystal C. about Asheville West KOA, highlighting a common concern for light sleepers.

    Tips for camping with families

Check recreation options: Camps with planned activities keep children entertained. "All kinds of stuff for the kids. Two pools, jump pillow and pad, banana bikes, playground and three ponds for fishing," recommends Robbie T. from Cherokee-Great Smokies KOA, listing the extensive family-oriented features.

Creekside play areas: Natural water features provide entertainment for children. "The creek was nice for the kids to play in," explains Nate C. about Moonshine Creek, emphasizing how natural features can become recreational spaces.

Consider cabin options: Family cabins provide comfort for those new to camping. "Me and my family has been to this campground a few times now and it is hands down my favorite! They have campers set up fully equipped besides blankets pillows or towels which is no big deal to bring along," shares Tommy R. about Greenbrier Campground.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling considerations: RV campers should check site grades before booking. At Pride RV Resort, David S. notes, "Spots are nice and level. The place is well maintained, and the staff is friendly. We were going to stay just one night to do laundry, but ended up staying for 3."

Off-peak pricing benefits: Significant discounts apply during shoulder seasons. "Usually starting at $22 per night, after November 1st the prices get cut in half, so I stayed for $11," shares Jonathan N. about North Mills River Campground, revealing substantial savings for off-season camping.

Utility hookup availability: Full-service sites provide conveniences for extended stays. "We've been boondocking a lot lately and just needed a dump site. But after seeing the place we decided to come back and stay," reports David S., highlighting the importance of checking what utilities are available at each location.
