Large resort, several types of sites

This is a very large RV resort with many amenities and several types of sites to pick from… I would pick my site over the phone and be specific on what you want, grass pad vs concrete vs gravel vs mud.

Great RV Park near the beach

This is a large modern RV park with all the usual amenities and then some! Full hookups, lots of pull-thru sites, cable tv, multiple pools, multiple camp stores, playgrounds, mini golf, and more. All without leaving the property. Staff even collects trash daily. Sites are a little close, but everyone we met was very friendly. You should know that the park is under the flight path of the local naval base, so expect jet noise, but it wasn’t terrible during our stay. We stayed in the off season, so I think the place is a bit more manicured in the summer. The best perk is a free parking lot right at the beach just for people staying here. It was a short drive and a very nice perk.

    Cheap but run down

The website tells a much different story than the camp itself. Mostly long term here and they don’t do a great job of making sure the sites aren’t full of junk. Can tell it used to be pretty nice but seems very run down now. A storm hit right after I got here and now I’m sitting in about 8 inches of water! Good for a night if you just need a stop over, but can’t say I’d like to be here any longer than that.

Nice campground, our 17’ tt on lot #283 a short site we fit fine, full hook up our sight was crowned and stone. Oceana air base is near, fighters flying by and over all the time, so loud so cool, wow! Free parking lot, down on Pacific and 9th at beach area, curtesy of campground. Huge camp store kids will love lots for all. A heated covered pool, putt putt, much more.

This is our home away from home

We have been member's here for several year's and camping here even longer (inherited membership from my Grandparents who I grew up camping with here).  The campground has a lot of amenities and all sites are full hook up.  As it is a member owned campground it is a community and we all help and take care of each other.  The average cost even with annual dues is a deal compared to most other campgrounds.

My only complaint is some of the sites are a bit smaller, but for the area they are on average considering the location, we just prefer a bit more space, especially when the campground is full for holiday's but we are able to get reservations and sites even on holidays just a couple weeks out usually so it's still nicer and easier than other places that are usually booked months if not a full year out.

Other than that, not specifically an issue with the campground, more the area that has a flooding problem, if the wind and rain comes in from the south, there can be a bit of flooding, some sites are worse than others, it's not a drainage issue, it's not a maintanace issue as it only occurs when the winds are strong out of the south.  Not something that stops us from visiting, just to be aware of and pay attention.

    Relaxation on the Sound.

This KOA is actually still under construction. As with everything else Covid-19 has set it back. But there are many sites available. A lot of the amenities are already available. Dog park, shower house, store, children's play area and they can fill your propane tanks for you. Full hookups with WiFi and cable. Drive through and back in sites with water views all around. We spent a week there and it was so relaxing. They also rent campers and little trailers. Check out their website.

    Pettigrew State Park Campground

Beautiful campground with some short distance trails along Phelps Lake

We camped in the State campground at Pettigrew State Park. It is a small campground with just a few camp sites. We usually overnight there on the way to the NPS campgrounds on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, though it is nice enough to justify a stay if you find yourself in the area. We visited in March, so insects were not a problem, though your experience may be different if you visit during the warmer months, as much of the area surrounding Lake Phelps is cypress swamp.

I little about the campground amenities: it is modest and good for tent camping. Though there is room for RVs, there aren't electrical and water hookups, though most who were there were in RVs. Each site has a fire ring with a grill and firewood is available for a nominal fee. There is a bathhouse with toilet and shower facilities.

The natural beauty is worth the visit. From the campground it is an easy walk to the lake. We were able to see an impressive sunset from the lake shore. There is an out and back 1.5 mile trail, for a total of 3 miles, that follows the lake, taking you through the Somerset Place State Historic Site. The walk passes through the swamp with many large cypress and sycamore trees. At the end of the trail is a walkway to the lake along an irrigation canal.

Fairly roomy, fully open sites, but no shade

We stayed at site 19 for 7 days. The sites are fairly quiet, fairly nicely spaced, particularly for a private RV park. The sites are FHU with 50A service. There is some occasional road noise, but not too bad. AT&T had 2 bars and 6 MB/s w/o a booster, 2 bars and 8 MB/s with it. The sites are all open, so satellite coverage is good, so as a result, we did not check OTA TV reception. Lots of open area to walk the dog and there were lots of other dogs here. Grounds are kept very clean and mowed. Very conveniently located near the Wright brothers' site.

    Little Creek MWR RV Park

    Utilitarian

Overall, this campground is utilitarian at best. We stayed for five nights in April in a 25' Airstream. It is on a military installation so you need to have access.

    - RV office does not open; if you have any issue, you have to call the reservation line or see the camp host...but there was nothing to mark who the camp host was and they never stopped by.

    - Roads are decrepit with major potholes and in need of repair. The roads and some sites flood when raining. There are two one way roads in, but without a map of the campground available, you don't know which one to turn down in advance.

    - Bathrooms are dated but clean.

    - Dumpster not emptied in timely fashion. It was overflowing the first two days here and people were piling trash around it until it was emptied on a Wed.

    - Full hook up (electric/water/sewer) on sites; some have fire pits, some don't. Also the connection boxes are set back pretty far on the sites, so you need longer hoses/cords. We had a long electric cord that reached and had to add a second water hose and second section of sewer hose to connect. Water pressure was good.

    - Concrete pads and free laundry were nice. Ground around the concrete pads were rutted where folks either parked off the pad or didn't know how to park on it.

    - Free wifi if you sign up for MWR's, but we used our T-Mobile home internet with good connection (4 bars). AT&T on our phones was 1 bar at best.

    - Several small hiking trails nearby on base that were good for walking the dog.

    - Traffic getting off base starting around 1500-1600 is bad, so plan accordingly.

    - Expect to hear aircraft all the time. You get used to it quickly, but can be loud.

    - Seemed like some active duty personnel were staying here, as we saw them leaving in the mornings and coming back at the end of the day in uniform.

    - We didn't find firewood for sale on base and bought some out in town near another campground.

    - Follow the signs on base to the golf course and keep driving past the driving range to find a small beach on base.

Not the best look for a military campground, but if you just need a place to park to access the other amenities of the base and area cheaply, this is it.

    Kitty Hawk RV Park

    Barebones parking spaces only

I was traveling though Kitty Hawk pretty late in the evening looking for a place to stop for the evening and this was one of the first places I stumbled upon. I thought perhaps it could be like some of the RV Parks in the area which have a small portion designed for tents, however I was very wrong. Not only does it not accommodate tents, you also cannot stay here if you are traveling in a pop-up.

It seemed like a very nice location, located just across from the sandy shoreline with trees to the rear of the property. Wide roads in and out made for easy access for larger rigs. It was just really disappointing to know unless you are in a fully contained unit you cannot stay here.

There are no restrooms or showers available at this site and even without these amenities pricing seemed a bit high when I was looking at it. Guess you pay for the use of the private beach with prices $60-$70 per night depending on the time of year. The RV sites do include water, electricity and cable.

All in all I guess it might be worth it for someone traveling with a family in comparison to local hotel prices, however as primarily a tent camper this was very disappointing as a whole.

    Small, quite, friendly

Campground is well taken care of with wildlife all around. Level parking and full hookups made it a comfortable stay. Small playground and waterfront picnic area for the kids to play. About an hour drive to Cape Hatteras, 20 minutes to Jennette’s pier, and 5-10minutes drive to Wright brothers first flight and grocery store.

    Winter break fun!

This was our maiden voyage for the family RV--we decided on this destination kind of on a whim and were happy with our decision. We've been tent campers forever and were excited to see what RV camping was all about.

This is a HUGE complex with various "levels" of sites. From basic to fancy, crowded to sparse. I think we would've felt a little claustrophobic if it were the summer, but this was great for us in the off season. Our loop was packed and gravelly, but others open during the off season were a little more roomy and "polished."

We enjoyed biking all over the place (including a family-friendly bike trail to the VB boardwalk), playing on the many small playgrounds, swimming in the dome-covered pool (there are three more of them for warm weather), playing mini-golf, and enjoying our time.

Bathroom/shower houses were clean and well-positioned close to all of the camping loops.

    GREAT GET AWAY

Located between Wanchese and Manteo, this little RV park is a quiet getaway. Turning into the property you will find all of the grounds very clean and well maintained. Each site has full connections along with a picnic table. A number of sites back up to the water where one can enjoy fishing for flounder or blue crab. Or just enjoy a nice walk around the shoreline and along the piers. The touristy spots are 15-20 minutes away providing an opportunity to enjoy some seclusion. A well maintained pool is onsite as well a pavilion for some larger group get togethers. A bath house with very clean facilities. A place to do your own laundry. A convenience store is next door as well as a hardware store however you almost would never realize it as it is never noisy or distracting. If you are looking for a place along the coast for a break from the road, or a week of quiet, you will not be disappointed here.

Camping Resort available to buy deed

This is our home base camping resort. It’s a deeded membership that allows for 14 day stays with a single deed. We’ve stayed a few times prior to owning with friends who sponsored us. There are both paved and unpaved sites with full hookups, and tent sites that feature water and electricity. Bath houses throughout property, and a laundry, community center, two pools, a large pavilion and ball court. We love having play areas for the kids and a dog park for our fluffy kid.

We spent 2 night at North River in August to attend Coast Guard Day in Elizabeth City.  I was pleasantly surprised how nice and clean the facility was.  I was expecting in the Dogs Day of August to be buggy, but place was wonder and I want to return again the fall when it is cooler.

Touristy Campground with shuttle to VB oceanfront

This is a convenient place to stay close to the oceanfront if you’re going to be spending time along the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. They have lots of amenities as well as putt-put and several pools.

There are various sections and some of the higher priced sites are very well kept but the newer pull through sites in the rear of the park flooded really badly when we were there and we had constant construction from backhoes and building crews, which took away front the relaxation somewhat. The tent sites are fairly nice unless it rains, which means floating on your air mattress. We had a fairly good experience with our travel trailer but it would have been miserable with a tent setup.

We’ve stayed a couple times prior to getting our camper and have had a good experience overall. The comfort stations are fairly clean but some are nice than others and you don’t know until after arrival if the closest ones are the better ones. There’s quite a division between the fancy side with full hookups and the sites with partial hookups.

    Pretty good

Pull through sites are level. Sites are a little closer than I’m used to but it’s not bad because of the way the sites are on an angle.
