Walmart — Chesapeake Supercenter

This Walmart Supercenter sits in Chesapeake, Virginia, offering overnight RV parking in a designated section of the lot near the outdoor garden center. Recent campers report conflicting policies, with one visitor in 2023 receiving permission from customer service to park overnight, while another was told in 2024 that overnight parking is no longer permitted due to district-level policy changes.

The parking area provides level spots in the far corner by outdoor seating, though store wifi does not reach these locations. Campers have noted the relative quiet compared to other Walmart locations, with wildlife sounds audible at night. The lot accommodates large RVs and has hosted tour buses alongside individual travelers. Cracker Barrel — Chesapeake (Edinburgh) sits just 0.2 miles away as an alternative, though previous visitors found it more exposed to highway noise.

No Overnight Parking Allowed

Stopped here on a Wednesday night, two weeks ago, and went to speak to the manager on duty - Was told they no longer allow overnight parking and that the change has come from higher ups within the district.

Quiet

We stayed here on a Saturday night - probably the quietest Walmart we've stayed the night. We even heard owls and coyotes in the middle of the night!

We asked inside at the Customer Service desk if overnight RV parking was allowed, and she said yep, as long as you park that way, and pointed to the side of the parking lot that was by the outdoor section.

There are no "no overnight" signs in the parking lot.  We found a spot furthest in the corner by the little benches that was flat.

Store wifi didn't reach the corner where we stayed.

We checked out the Cracker Barrel as well, but the Walmart parking lot felt more quiet and calm. Cracker Barrel didn't have RV spots, and felt more open and exposed, and was right at the freeway offramp.

Only one large tour bus and a truck with a long storage trailer stayed the night with us.
