North River Campground

North River Campground operates on private land in the Shawboro area, providing full-hookup sites for RVs up to 50 feet along with tent camping options. The facility stays open year-round and accepts reservations, making it accessible for both planned trips and last-minute getaways. Campers reach the property via narrow roads that require careful navigation, particularly for larger rigs.

The campground centers around a 5-acre lake that supports fishing and creates waterfront views for sites positioned along its edge. "I was pleasantly surprised how nice and clean the facility was," notes Zygmunt Z.. Multiple reviewers emphasize the maintained grounds and cleanliness standards throughout the property. Sites feature a mix of paved and gravel surfaces, with concrete patios at select locations and generous spacing between neighbors.

Amenities include a swimming pool, small playground, laundry facilities, and on-site food service. The campground provides fast WiFi and cable TV hookups, though cellular service proves spotty in the area. Water and electric connections serve all RV sites, with a dump station available for waste disposal. The facility allows pets and maintains landscaped common areas.

Campers use this location as a base for exploring campgrounds near Corolla or attending events in nearby Elizabeth City. Book ahead during summer months when the pool and lake activities draw more visitors.

Guests frequently mentioned the campground's exceptional cleanliness and well-maintained facilities including a fishing lake and various amenities. A few noted concerns about narrow access roads and inconsistent connectivity, but most found it a pleasant stay.

Excellent Experience

We spent 2 night at North River in August to attend Coast Guard Day in Elizabeth City.  I was pleasantly surprised how nice and clean the facility was.  I was expecting in the Dogs Day of August to be buggy, but place was wonder and I want to return again the fall when it is cooler.

Quiet, big rig friendly.

Bev and Pat are great! Campground is clean and well maintained. Cell service is poor, WiFi is subpar.

Nice

Really clean neat camp ground. Well cared for landscaping, nice lake, level parking spot with concrete patio. WiFi is fast and cable tv is available. I would recommend this camp ground. It is a little off the beaten path and the road coming is narrow.
