    First Landing State Park Campground

Good campground, boardwalk to beach needs maintenance.

Good campground as usual. bathrooms well maintained and cleaned twice a day when we were there. Campsite is right next to the bathroom and has a good amount of shade. Bathrooms had two sinks to clean dishes. Boardwalk nearby to the beach was very convenient, however quite a few boards look like they need replacement. One highlight was watching the school of dolphins from our kayaks, not far from the beach. Never saw that before.

Right on Chesapeake Bay with Sunset!

Most of the sites have shade a few do not have any shade. If you do not like traffic noise, stay far away from the main road that the park is located off.

You can not see the water from any campsite and all sites are a little walk to get to the beach of the bay.

Light waves on the bay. It has beautiful sunsets with dolphins playing there in the evening.

We stayed in site 5 which is literally in the bathroom front yard with NO SHADE.

Outer Banks West - Currituck Sound KOA

    Nice site by the water

We stayed here for two nights during our trip along the Outer Banks. We had a great time and enjoyed our stop here. Our site had a great view of the water and we could see the Currituck lighthouse at night. Our boys enjoyed kayaking around the sound and riding their bikes to the playground. It seemed like they are working to add more amenities and upgrades so I’d stay again next time we make it that way. Also, Diggers Dungeon is only a few miles away so if you have kids make sure to stop and let them see the monster trucks.

    Convenient Location

We have family in Edenton and have stayed at Ricky Hock many times. It is just north of town and has large mostly pull through sites with full hookups.

It's what you make of it.

This is a wonderful spot if you want to avoid the high dollar hotel stays in Virginia Beach. There are a lot of amenities at this place, however you have to pay for some of the activities. This should be included in the price. The RV spots are not even 20 to 25 ft apart from each other. If that. It seems that this park is more in it for the money than the camping experience. That being said, there are a ton of things to do if you have a young family or just want to be rowdy. Lol. I went during memorial weekend, but I was told it's like this all of the time. The site that I had was very uneven. I had to put a 5-in lift on one side of my travel trailer and drop the tongue nearly to the ground due to the uneven pad to park on. Only room enough for one car. Overall it was a good experience, and you can't help but get to know your neighbors. Lol maybe that's what their plan was. Know your neighbors.

    Very nice facilities

Good: Beautiful campground. Very clean facilities and close by. Easy access to water. Close proximity to beach and hiking. 120 - was able to get two RTT on one site.

Bad: close proximity to other sites. Busy campground in general. Kids running around. Lots of standing water, once bugs start coming out would be a ton of mosquito.

    Beautiful campground with many amenities

We loved staying here for the weekend! We were the only ones in the tent area underneath beautiful trees. We kayaked in their creek that goes out directly to the Chowan River. Large fishing pond, firewood available, clean shower house, game room and tidy clean sites. Will return!

    Enjoyed camping here

Went for Labor Day weekend. Great campsite with good shade. Beach was nice and bay water was good temperature. Plus while Virginia Beach had red flag conditions, we could still swim. Had my crocs stolen at the beach though. Bathrooms next to us were completely renovated and are very nice.

sweet people, less then ideal area

If you are looking for a beach day in virginia beach but don’t want to spend ridiculous money on a hotel then it’s perfect!

Now for the down sides…… there is an air port like 8-10 minutes away which means constant fighter jets passing over the camp from like 4-10. It’s a very busy camp ground so there’s not a lot of privacy BUT people are respectful of quiet hours. Then at about 8 am the base starts doing their morning wake up songs which will wake you up…

    Fantastic family vacay spot

Just spent 5 days here and loved it. Wish we had stayed longer. They have 4 pools, lots of old shade trees that provide nice screen during the hot summer, fun activities, and a parking lot near the beach for easy access that was clutch! We are already planning on coming back next year.

    4.9 stars

Awesome coastal campground. Total diamond in the rough here. Very few bad sites- almost every one I saw was under a canopy of live oaks and pines. Ours was great- very large and private due to mounds and trees. Great live oaks for kids to climb on! The beach is beautiful and very kid friendly- a short walk from any campsite. Huge network of trails and close proximity to Virginia Beach and anything you might need. Definitely could spend weeks here and be happy. Only detractor was naval jets that kinda sounded like thunder from nearby base. Not a big issue. I would definitely book as close to the dunes/bay as possible with your site so that you can't hear road noise from route 60. Ours was perfect. Very cool campground.

    Cheap but run down

The website tells a much different story than the camp itself. Mostly long term here and they don’t do a great job of making sure the sites aren’t full of junk. Can tell it used to be pretty nice but seems very run down now. A storm hit right after I got here and now I’m sitting in about 8 inches of water! Good for a night if you just need a stop over, but can’t say I’d like to be here any longer than that.

    Pricing issue

The pricing is incorrect on The Dyrt and their website.  The Dirt states $20-$60 then I went to their business website and the cheapest (tent no hookup) was $40.  So I called to find out what was correct.  The young girl on the phone stated that the cheapest price was $45 (again tent and no hookup).  The girl was very rude.  Be aware of the pricing issue.  I will not visit.

Nice beach - good campground - LOUD

Stayed by site 5. I do not recommend anyone ever do this! You’re right be the shower/toilet. We don’t typically mind, and we figured November was cool enough it wouldn’t smell. Wrong. Every slight breeze from the South greets you with the whiff of a septic tank. Just don’t do it. Walk the extra distance to the boardwalk and save yourselves. It’s also not fun having random kids run through your site to cut the corner from the West.

At night, you’ll hear tons of sirens. The city isn’t too far away, and we’re prettt sure there must be a major hospital out there. Sirens wailing a LOT.

That said, the beach is really nice, and the campsites are actually taken pretty good care of. Definitely recommend coming here. It’s just going to be city noise and poo (if you stay at site 5).

    Nice Quick Stay

Though the camp spaces were pretty tight with little privacy in the area I was, it wasn't much of an issue for me. I'm in late and out early while traveling. The campground had a lot of amenities and the showers / restrooms were excellent. I will definitely return. Even arriving late wasn't much of an issue, they even called me the next day to check on me, and completed my registration over the phone as I left before the offices open, and would return pretty late too.

Probably one of the best campsites I’ve ever been to for such a great price

It was getting late so I was worried I wouldn’t find a place to stay for the night. Luckily, the camp store was open until 8 so I had plenty of time to get a place to stay for the night. It was a great view of the sunset and the whole area was pretty quiet. Staff at the store were friendly and were pretty lenient to letting me use the fire pits since there was no one else at my site. Will definitely stay again if I’m ever passing through the area.
