Sierra Vista offers free, dispersed camping with pet-friendly sites near Las Cruces, New Mexico, where both tent and RV campers can bring their dogs. Franklin Mountains State Park Campground allows pets on trails and at campsites with covered picnic tables, though sites are super cushy with pavilions and well-raked tent areas with room for three tents. Aguirre Spring Recreation Area maintains pet-friendly policies at their campground with toilets and trash facilities. Pets allowed at Las Cruces KOA where full hookups, cabin options, and amenities like showers, firewood, and a market create comfortable stays for travelers with animals. All campgrounds in the region enforce standard leash requirements to ensure safety.

The area's desert terrain requires careful consideration when camping with pets. Trails in Franklin Mountains State Park welcome dogs but hikers note the extremely hot conditions and recommend bringing plenty of water for both people and pets. The desert environment features scree-covered trails that can be slippery both ascending and descending, making hiking poles advisable for pet owners navigating the terrain. Wildlife awareness is important when camping with dogs in this region. The gates at Franklin Mountains State Park lock from 5:00 PM until 8:00 AM, with campers given the padlock combination for entry and exit during closed hours. Nearby El Paso provides emergency veterinary services if needed during longer stays.

      Hacienda RV Resort

      Hacienda RV Resort, NM

Located in Las Cruces New Mexico, Hacienda RV resort is conveniently situated right off of interstate 10. Their main office is closed currently due to COVID precautions, but they are still very accommodating. The sites are small, but have everything you need with level concrete pads and full hook ups. They have a large laundry room. Make sure you use the ones closest to the door (on the right) because they are newer and don’t leave your clothes soaking wet. The dog park is large and has several entrances- it also provides waste bags and a garbage can, which is a plus. The bathrooms are private and include a toilet and shower- clean!!

      Las Cruces KOA

      Nice park

We only stayed one night but this was a convenient location or far off the highway. Bathroom was clean and staff was nice. Large clean dog park. Nice views of the city. Some sites back up to the view and they also behave a path and pier pit with a view. Looks like they are making improvements to the park.

      Las Cruces KOA

Beautiful Mountain Views, Starry Skies - Wish We Could Stay Longer!

We arrived after dark to the Las Cruces KOA.  The park was about 1/2 full and the sites were spacious, clean and had both gravel and cement area for parking.  The skies at night were clear and the location of the camp, set on a hilltop, was perfect for seeing stars and the distant city lights.  During the daytime, the park has beautiful views of the mountains nearby.  Some of the sites are considered premium and they had the best mountain views and a patio area and outdoor fitpit.

The dog run area was exceptionally clean, nice and spacious for our two dog.  The dog area has a patch of grass in the middle and then surrounded by decompressed granite.  I preferred this to the dog parks that are all grass.  It was very clean and had climbing structures for the pups.  The restroom near the dog park was sparkling clean with marble floors.  I popped into the gift shop/welcome desk and there were a lot of items for sale, crafts, food items, etc.  I can see spending a longer visit here and exploring the town of Las Cruces and the nearby Medilla area wineries.  The location is convenient if you are traveling on I-10 and feels very safe and secure.

      Siesta RV Park

      Needs a refreshing

This is a small RV park just west of ElPaso. It’s older and could use some maintenance. Sites are level, but very close to. Lots of dust. (This is the desert , so maybe expected) 30/50 amp, water & sewer. Free WiFi and Cable TV No dog park. No pool There is a convenience store and grocery store.

      Sunny Acres RV Park

      Downtown and safe.

Very safe campground. Large level sites. Large and clean bathrooms/showers with plenty of hot water. Nice laundry and game room. And a dog park on site. Pricing is comparable for the city. Yes the area is a little sketchy but LC PD has a video monitor at the entrance so no shenanigans allowed. Oh. And blazing fast wifi.

      Mission RV Park

      Not as expected

We checked out the website prior to booking and were planning on staying for a full week, which luckily didn’t pan out. When we checked in we were told we could only stay a night, despite having made a week-long reservation. Understandable given the circumstances, but it would’ve been prudent to inform of that fact on the website. The receptionist was helpful and gave us a number to another rv park in the proximity, which was sweet of her. The park seems to have good amenities, and there is a little dog park at the end of the lot and a pool by the office, but it is right next to a truck storage facility and right by the I10, so it isn’t the most tranquil. The website is slightly misleading, and I don’t think I would stay here more than a night or two.

    Guide to Chaparral

Franklin Mountains State Park Campground accommodates pets at all camping sites while maintaining strict leash requirements for visitor safety. Tent and RV campers find well-maintained sites with covered picnic tables, though the terrain consists primarily of rock surfaces that may challenge tent stakes. The campground provides primitive camping with no showers, water hookups, or electric service. Located in El Paso, approximately 45 minutes from Chaparral, the park gates lock from 5pm to 8am daily, with visitors receiving padlock combinations for after-hours access. Campsites are spread out across the desert landscape, offering privacy and mountain views.

Aguirre Spring Recreation Area and Campground permits leashed pets throughout its facilities, situated east of Las Cruces roughly 30 minutes from Chaparral. The BLM dispersed camping areas along B059 in New Mexico offer free, unrestricted pet access with no amenity services, ideal for self-sufficient campers who bring their own water and waste disposal systems. Las Cruces KOA provides more amenities for pets and their owners, including full hookups, showers, and designated pet exercise areas. Sierra Vista, a dispersed camping area with a 4.7 rating, allows pets in a primitive setting without facilities. Pet owners should be aware of desert wildlife hazards including rattlesnakes, scorpions, and cactus that pose risks to curious animals, particularly during dawn and dusk hours when wildlife is most active.
