I really enjoyed this boondocking site. They have great tent options right beside the river but not too close for flooding. Also they have a hard structured bathroom which was nice. Would stay here again. Also the road was bumpy but I managed it with my Honda Accord.

Less than five miles from the highway, this is a nice sized lake stocked with fish. There were a pair of white swans on the lake when I was there but no one else around. A large parking area, could accommodate a travel trailer or two in addition to a couple tent sites with fire rings. One picnic table with a fire pit and rock fire rings at the tent sites. There are two access roads, the first is more appropriate for van, truck or hike in to tent site. Not a lot of turn around room, wouldn't bring a trailer in. Second turn off goes to a much larger area, multiple sites and boat launch access to the lake.

Just about a mile from the highway, this site is right on the river with some nice deep pools. There are three separate fire rings with a vault toilet and picnic table. It's a short drive in but more suitable for truck camping, van, tent camping or very small trailer like 13' max due to narrow track and limited maneuvering area. High clearance required!

Lots of noise, loud music, loud motors, cars in and out that obviously didn’t stay there off of the back of camp, and just loud racket until late at night.
Just a basic setup, but good shade. Connections were appropriate, pull in sites accommodated a standard pickup and 29 ft TT.

There were about 3-4 sites available, 2 of which could fit a camper. We grabbed one. It could fit a 20-25' camper with vehicle at most.
The place emptied out pretty well mid week (peak season).

Not much for turn around space, especially for a larger rig. If sites at end of road are packed you may be up a creek. Weekends it's packed. Still quiet, just nit much availability. No water. The spigot that used to be available outside the park gates are no longer available. Closest water is inside the park at the picnic areas.
We stayed 6 nights and it was great. Very quiet, and an easy 25 minute drive to Columbia falls for grocery. 15-20 to hungry horse for gas.
TravelerThis was a nice site for the night. I came around 6pm and all 4 sites were full so we just car camped in one of the parking spots. The four spots look really nice, but they most likely fill up quick, as we came on a Monday night. It’s a very beautiful place to camp and the bathroom is a perk! I definitely recommend if wanting a free place to camp outside of the West Glacier entrance!

We stayed 6 nights here and had a great time. The access to lake McDonald is the best part for sure and the wooded sites are beautiful.
Downsides, we have stayed in about a dozen NP campgrounds and this was one of our least favorite. Unlike other National Park campgrounds staying here still requires reservations for main park attractions like going to the sun road and many glacier. The bathrooms don’t have soap and there is no dishwashing stations. Sites are extremely tight and unlevel. Our site claimed to fit a 32ft rig, but there is no way.

This area is completely remote. No other people there. So the base parking area is piles of pavement material. I’m assuming they plan on making it an overflow camping spot since apgar nearby is always full. We stayed here and woke up to multiple work trucks at the bottom but no one said anything to us. The Mountain View’s here are wild. And we heard bear, moose, and a wolf! I don’t know how much longer this will be a free space since they are obviously working on it but it was well worth the stay

This campground was very cute. The owners were so friendly and accommodating. The resident cat Poncho was a hot with our kids. The showers were small, but we're hot and free! The lawn was great with a communal fire pit and small playground. They let travelers camp there for 12 per person per night in a tent if that's what you're looking for. The cafe was cute and the drinks were delicious. We didn't eat, but it looked good! I would stay here again foe sure.

Great campground with easy access to Avalanche Lake trail head and there’s the Trail of Cedars that runs right through the entrance to the campground. The old cedars and hemlocks give this campground a one of a kind feel. !!! Site B59 is currently next to the camp host !!!

I stayed at Whispering Pines for three nights in a July heatwave. It was a work trip, and I tried to book a hotel but was offended at the high prices in the Flathead, so I opted to take my teardrop and camp.
This place was great. It is a really nice place with plenty of space, a very clean porta-potty and an outdoor shower. No electric hookups, but there is great cell reception and it’s only 10 minutes from downtown Kalispell.
The price was reasonable, compared to nightly hotel room rates, but for camping, anything over $35 a night really should have power. But, all things considered, this place does what it does really well, and that’s fine. Bottom line: if you are looking for a clean, quiet place to camp in Kalispell, give this place a try. Proximity to Whitefish, Glacier NP is excellent.

ScoutI used this spot for the four days I was visiting Glacier NP. It's pretty easy to find and close to West Glacier. The dirt road is DUSTY, but it is what it is (turn your lights on so you're more visible). The dirt road and driveway is a little rough and pothole-y, but my Town and Country handled it just fine.
Lots of sites to choose from; I was joined by a couple others each night and there was a bit of road traffic and people coming to put their rafts in the river, but it wasn't bothersome at all for me.
Right on the Flathead River, surrounded by mountains, and it has a pit-toilet! As a solo female traveler, I would absolutely stay here again.

GuideOlder very scenic campground providing a traditional national park camping experience. Scenery abounds, shaded private sites, directly on Lake McDonald, convenient location, and terrific staff.
Camped loop C (non-generator) which was perfect for our teardrop camper. Sites vary in how level they are, but most are decent sized and have fire rings and picnic tables. We were able to walk directly to the lake from our campsite in less than 2 minutes to enjoy sunrises and sunsets.
Campground was just opening and some of the bathhouses were not operating. Others were- just be prepared. Rangers were extremely busy but super helpful and considerate.
Road to the Sun was not yet open past Avalanche campground, but should be open by mid-late June. Make sure you have your reservation passes for any road that you intend to travel. Your campground reservation does NOT allow you to access the roads into the inner parts of the park between 6 am and 3 pm. Most people in our loop were able to get passes the night before, but as the season progresses highly recommend purchasing and down loading your pass to your phone/ wallet prior to entering the park.
Glacier provides world class hiking and scenery. Be bear prepared. In another part of the park we encountered a Grizzly 30 yards off a busy trail and other campers experienced the same on their day hikes. Camp reportedly has mostly Black Bears (which we did not see) and lots of deer.
If you are looking for a little additional adventure, take the forest service roads to Polebridge (22 miles from the Canadian border). The scenery is terrific and the historic Polebridge Mercantile has huckleberry bear claws and sandwiches that make the drive worthwhile. If you like huckleberries, the ice cream in the Apgar village is delicious and they sell firewood and ice. There are two firewood vendors, so check out the deal that fits your firewood philosophy (with plastic or without)
Limited cell service with Verizon was available around the park visitor center and sporadic around the Apgar area. Be prepared for all types of weather, we saw it all during our 4 days in late May.
The scenery and experience of this special place cannot be properly described. We can't wait to return.
TravelerGorgeous place to camp. We arrived on Memorial day late in the evening. Everyone was leaving at this point. I could see how in the summer and on holidays it could busy. River is very fast for fishing, could maybe get away with fly fishing. Plenty of places to camp.
