      Fishing

A hatchery on site, trout fishing daily limit 4.   Nice stop over on a road trip, honored Access pass for discount, level site, showers, easy drive from a nearby town.   Site was level, table fire pit, grill, lantern hook, access to dumpster n n water, on site dump station.   There is a pool in lower part of campground as well as restraunt, store, did not use these facilities.

      Highly recommend

We camped in campground 1 right next to the play ground. Super clean, had a view of the lake. Within walking distance of the marina. Everyone was very friendly. My only complaint is the first night we had super noisy neighbors. I'm all for music and a good time but past quiet hours I think one should tone it down a bit. I assumed the host would tell them to be quiet. It did take me complaining the next morning, and then the host went to talk to them. Rest of the trip was smooth as can be! Kayak trails on the lake...beautiful clean swimming beaches. Can't wait to go back :)

A little rowdy but everyone nice

Way off the beaten path but we had a good time. The campground was clean and everyone was nice. It did get a little rowdy on the weekend but folks respected the quiet hours.

      Bathrooms decent with showers.

T-Mobile and Verizon in places. Hard to get in a camper Several sites that can take advantage of Starlink.

      Do you like trains?

Because you’re going to see and hear a lot of them, as there is a train track very close to the site.

This campground itself was nice. The staff was so extremely friendly. The trees are old and tall, creating a canopy over the sites, so even with the weather cresting 95°, the site felt nice.

I brought my travel trailer and stayed on lot 28. It was a KOA Patio site (a cement patio area with a table, chairs, and fire pit) that had city water, sewer, and electric. The lot was well cared for and my spot was incredibly flat/level. It’s always a nice feeling to pull in and set up with minimal effort.

The pool is small, but just a short walk from any site on the grounds. The clubhouse/store is well stoked if you forgot anything, or if you decide you need another six pack.

As another review mentioned, you can order pizza. The hours are reasonable. You can also order fresh made mini donuts in the morning. I nice treat for the family or with coffee on your way out!

If it wasn’t for the trains coming by blowing their horns, this would easily be a favorite spot.

Great place to camp out and have a float trip. The next time we go we will be bringing our own grill as they did not have many options on site. The staff was friendly and helpful.

COE Harry S Truman Reservoir Long Shoal Park

Great views, nice sites, okay amenities.

      Stayed 7/22/200 - $15/night

      Site 97

Lake-view sites, beaches, flush toilets and showers, all for$15/night. Don’t have super high expectations.

      PROS:

Great sites on the water. Good space with picnic table and fire rings with a grate. Site 97 was on a corner, with a neighbor to one side, and lots of space between sites to the other.

      CONS:

Showers aren’t great. Cobwebs and mold. First door didn’t even lock. Wide gaps with no curtain. No soap in bathrooms.(During COVID). Can’t expect much for$15/night, but bathrooms/showers were disappointing.

You can setup in the grass, right by the water and enjoy the beach. The ranger also told us of beach access just outside the park, across the street. Bathroom/shower house was a bit of a walk from our site, but nothing crazy. Worth it for the views. No problems with AT&T cell service.

Military Park Fort Leonard Wood Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area

      First Camp Trip of 2026

Just one look around and we spontaneously decided to camp that night to check out the area. Amazingly beautiful and well maintained campgrounds near the Lake of The Ozarks just for military families, count me in. Area is easy to navigate with bathroom facilities, playground and pavilion with grills, plenty of fishing spots, tons of rv, cabins and tent campsites. You can also rent boats, jet skis, and other outdoor gear at the admin office. We took a tent campsite toward the back of the park with beautiful lakes views and a little private beach. We cannot wait to come back to hang out longer.

    What to do

Trout fishing access: At Bennett Spring State Park Campground, fishing is a primary attraction with dedicated facilities. "Bennett Spring is so serious about their fishing they even have a trout cam so you can watch other anglers testing their skills," notes one visitor.

Hiking trail options: The park contains more than 20 miles of trails across 3,216 acres. "The hiking trails range from a leisurely walk along the stream to rigorous mountain trails that reward hikers with great picturesque views of the Ozark Mountains," according to a camper.

    What campers like

Historical architecture: The Bennett Spring State Park facilities include distinctive structures. "One aspect of this park that is so appealing is the historical character that came from the Civilian Conservation Corps improvements made back in the 1930's. They built a dam, arched bridge, cabins and shelters, dining lodge, roads, and trails."

Lakeside accommodations: At Pittsburgh Area Campground, visitors appreciate the water proximity. "Scenic Views overlooking the beautiful lake. Each site in the electric loop has a private path to the waters edge. Sites viewable by map next to water."

Family-friendly amenities: The campgrounds maintain facilities for all ages. "The park has a pool open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Several different campgrounds offer a variety. Primarily a trout fisherman's paradise the park offers plenty for the family. Wonderful hiking trails, a restaurant, and the above mentioned pool keep everyone entertained."

Clean facilities: Campers frequently mention maintenance standards. "The campground was clean and everyone was nice. It did get a little rowdy on the weekend but folks respected the quiet hours. Bathrooms decent with showers."
