    Fontainebleau State Park Campground

    Great night stay

    Lots of sites but doesn’t feel like your on top of the neighboring sites. Hauling an extra car and having a pull through tent site was extremely helpful. Bugs were tolerable with the help of bug spray.

    St. Bernard State Park Campground

    Clean park just outside of New Orleans

    We ended up staying here for 10 nights as we were having vehicle issues. All the park staff we came in contact were very nice and accommodating. The spaces are far apart from each other but a little on the narrow side. I did notice spaces 7, 12 and 14 had sewer hook ups. There might have been more. They do give a senior discount so I think it was $14 a night to stay there if you were over 62. Nice hiking trail in the area, but beware of the ginormous banana spiders that weave their webs across the trail. The bathhouse was probably a three or four on a scale of five. They did have laundry facilities, which were inexpensive, $1.75 to wash and $1.75 to dry. You can drive your car up about 10 miles to the Algiers ferry terminal and take your vehicle across the Mississippi with a jazzy pass And then drive up to Algiers point where you take a passenger ferry across to the downtown area of New Orleans. Nice and convenient. And you don’t have to worry about parking as you can park on the street in Algiers. My few complaints would be the dump station is located to where you have to use it coming into the park instead of leaving the park. Also, there is a little bit of train noise as it’s relatively close to the tracks.

    Buccaneer State Park Campground

    It’s a great place for families

    Beautiful park in a nice area. Lots of activities for the kids (in season) and plenty to do and see nearby. Waveland and Bay St Louis have lots of waterfront bars & eateries and there’s a casino nearby. Certainly more expensive than any state park we have stayed in - especially when the season has ended and the pool & water park are shut down.

    Great place!

    I was the only camper there but sites are pretty spread out regardless. We had direct access to the creek. The bathroom, sink, grill, and shower were just a quick walk up the hill. Shower was cold water only but honestly so nice after a hot day. They have tons of vegetation to look at, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, and peacocks. There’s a small fishing pond too. You can follow the trail around the back of the pond and see the bunker and balcony. Will definitely be back! Only complaint is the ants were terrible! Idk where they kept coming from but definitely put up anything with food (even in tubs) up while not in use. Dogs are allowed but need to be on a lead. They have two dogs too, Mocha will come around to the campsites and creeks to say hi and want sticks to be thrown. Randy up there was super helpful too and good company. Everyone honestly was just so nice.

    The park is nicely renovated with lots of waterfront spots. We caught a few small bream. Our spot was right next to a street light. Makes it hard to view the stars at night. Verizon cell service was very strong. No WiFi available.

    Lake LaCroix RV Resort

    Unexpected paradise in the Bay

    My daughter and I stayed for a little girls weekend getaway before she starts college. Never heard of this place but decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised with the park. The lake water is crystal clear with plenty of fish. Very peaceful here! We spent time at the natural playground, swimming in the beautiful pool, fishing and bicycling. The pool area is very nice with outdoor furniture, fire pits and loungers. Close location to the boat launch for easy access to the Jourdan River. Verizon cell service was very strong. The parks WiFi works great as well.

    Bogue Chitto State Park Campground

    One of our favorite state parks

    We love this park. Huge park with plenty of places to explore. We saw plenty of wildlife such as turkey, deer, rabbits, turtles, alligators and birds. Plenty of trails for hiking and biking. The river offers a nice swimming hole during the summer. WiFi worked good enough. Verizon cell service worked well in most areas of the park.

    Little Black Creek Campground & Park

    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hidden Gem — Can’t Believe I’d Never Heard of It!

    We just spent the weekend at Little Black Creek Campground in Lumberton, MS, and it absolutely deserves a 5-star review. I live less than 2 hours away and honestly can’t believe I hadn’t discovered this place sooner — it’s a massive, beautifully wooded, and incredibly well-maintained hidden gem.

    We stayed at a full hookup RV site and were blown away by how spacious, level, and private it was. Most sites had wooden decks, and many had lake views or direct access, including ours, which had stairs leading right down to the water and a picnic table on a platform. We didn’t see a single “bad” site in the whole park.

    The lake is gorgeous, and swimming is allowed! They have kayaks, canoes, jon boats for rent, and even a bait shop onsite. There’s also fishing, hiking trails, disc golf (two full courses!), a general store, multiple bathhouses, and cute tiny cabin rentals for non-RV guests. They even have propane filling, golf cart rentals, and a dump station. It’s a great mix of peaceful nature and plenty to do.

    The campground is huge and wooded, with tons of shade and a very peaceful, quiet, and family-friendly atmosphere. There are two beaches — one near the main camp side and another closer to long-term spots and day visitors. We brought our e-bikes and loved riding around the scenic roads and loops.

    The bathhouses were older but very clean and air-conditioned, and we felt completely safe the entire time. There’s a gated entrance at night with code access, which is a nice extra touch. The store staff were super friendly and helpful, even giving us some history on the campground. The greeter at the front gate wasn’t the warmest, but that didn’t impact our stay at all.

    There’s no Wi-Fi, but T-Mobile worked just enough for us to use a hotspot to stream TV at night. Cell service is limited but manageable.

    It’s also very easy to find, just a few minutes off the main road with a gas station and small town nearby, and only about 30 minutes from Hattiesburg.

    We will 100% be back and have already told several friends about it. If you’re looking for a peaceful, activity-filled campground that’s off the radar but worth every mile, Little Black Creek is it. Truly one of the best surprises we’ve had camping!
