    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Wells State Park Campground permits dogs throughout its 1400-acre woodland property on Walker Pond in Sturbridge. Pets must remain leashed at all times while exploring the park's extensive hiking trail system. Nearby, Thousand Trails Sturbridge accommodates pets at tent sites, RV spots, and cabin rentals with specific pet-friendly units. Most campgrounds in the South Uxbridge area enforce standard leash requirements of 6 feet or less and limit pets to 2-3 per site. The recently renovated bathrooms at Wells are exceptionally clean according to multiple campers, though sites can be quite distant from facilities, sometimes requiring a 10-minute walk. The campground features spacious, well-separated sites providing good privacy for campers with active dogs.

Dog owners appreciate the water access at several area campgrounds. Sutton Falls Camping Area provides pet-friendly accommodations including cabins and yurts with nearby water features where leashed pets can cool off during summer months. West Thompson Lake Campground offers pet-friendly access to hiking trails that connect directly to campground loops. Many campgrounds require proof of current vaccinations at check-in, and most prohibit leaving pets unattended at campsites. Sites with significant road noise from nearby highways may disturb sensitive pets, particularly at Wells State Park where highway sounds carry across the lake. Most local campgrounds stock pet waste stations throughout the grounds, though campers report varying levels of maintenance and availability.

      Waters Edge Family Campground

      Incredible campground

Most amazing weekend with tons of woods (privacy is huge for us). Very friendly guests and staff! Amazing weekend with lots of fun for the kids and even the dogs! We’ve been to campgrounds with playgrounds worse than the waters edge dog park. Every one of us had a great time with the perfect campsite deep in the woods (still able to park my 26’ camper trailer). Swimming pool, great playground, among lots of trails and wooded area surrounding almost every site. Best camping weekends we’ve ever had have been at Waters Edge.

      Wilderness Lake Park

      Really enjoyed our time here

Quaint little campground. Not many tenting sites but along a beautiful lake. Pets allowed. Bathrooms close by 10, something to keep in mind. And they’re cash or check only! Taylor Pond is not far and a great hike to bring both kids and pets. This campground was perfect for us and our dog. Bring your own kayaks or use the campgrounds free of charge.

      Ashaway RV Resort

      Rude Staff

Standard crabgrass parking lot with drunks driving around on golf carts and RV's stacked on top of each other. The woman who runs the office is a very angry person and it made the entire visit unpleasant, which is no surprise as she has been hostile and unwelcoming the several times I've visited. Pool looks nice though I guess, I've never dared to use it for fear of breaking one of the many unwritten and unspoken rules. A great place for people who enjoy eating dinner next to your neighbor's septic pipe. I called to ask if they allowed dogs and was told "NO" just to arrive and be asked to park next to the dog park.

      Strawberry Park

      Great atmosphere

Great family campground with lots of activities. A little pricey. Plenty of open space a dog park area. 3 pools a kiddie pool and outdoor in ground hot tub. Golf cart rentals. Very clean and accommodating

      Normandy Farms Campground

This is what Glamping was made for

First things first- no bugs!! That’s right I didn’t know what I was missing till I notice I wasn’t getting bit alive by mosquitoes!!! They spray for them!!! So you can enjoy the outside without the pesky bites that come with camping!

Then of course there is the luxury of having two pools, a ton of fun activities for kids, (fishing , dog park, horseshoes, tennis, basketball, etc)! It’s probably my favorite spot in New England merely for all the luxuries that come with this site!!!

Plus you are close to Gillette and shopping!! Can get better then that!

      Whispering Pines Campground

      Great family campground

We stayed for 3 nights, the sites and camp were very clean and well maintained. Everyone was very friendly, lots of things to do - pool, bocce, volleyball, horseshoes, arcade, a small field to play frisbee or ball, mini-golf (mini-golf landscape needs to be refreshed a bit) there is even a very small fenced in dog park which was nice if you want to let your dog off leash to play. We did not experience any screaming kids all night.

      Normandy Farms Campground

      A great place to stay!

I’ve been coming here with my family for years and it’s always a great time. Very clean camp sites, bathrooms and showers, roads, and playgrounds...all public areas are immaculate. Lots of activities for kids, teens, and adults. Great dog park. Sites are large and level and free from low hanging branches. Staff is friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend Normandy Farms Campground. You won’t be disappointed.

      Normandy Farms Campground

      A true 5 star campground!

There is NOTHING you could want and not have at this campground/RV resort!  The family that runs it are at it 24/7 so you have the time of your life.  Many pools and one is adults only, there are all kinds of activities every weekend day.  Ball field, dog park, it has every thing including smiles!!  I actually store my rig here so I see the cleanliness of this park and the care that goes out to all campers!!

    Guide to South Uxbridge

Several state and private campgrounds near South Uxbridge accommodate tent campers, RVs, and cabin stays within a 30-mile radius. Most facilities operate seasonally from April through October, with variations based on weather conditions. The region features a mix of woodland settings, lake access, and hiking opportunities across Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island borders.

    What to do

Hiking trails: George Washington State Campground offers multiple trail options alongside lakes. "There's a nice beach for children. The water was warm and clean. You can kayak or canoe," notes Jessica W. The campground maintains well-marked paths suitable for all skill levels.

Disc golf: West Thompson Lake Campground provides a free disc golf course on property. "We were able to see some boat races and played a round of disc golf on property," shares Jason L. The course winds through wooded areas and offers varying difficulty levels.

Fishing: Multiple water bodies support catch-and-release fishing at several sites. "The lake and adjoining river offer hours of fun for small craft. Take a long paddle up the river and you'll be escorted by hundreds of bluebirds and cedar waxwings," explains Cynthia K., noting that fishing at West Thompson Lake is strictly catch and release.

    What campers like

Clean bathrooms: Campers consistently mention bathroom facilities as a key consideration. "George Washington State Campground bathrooms were very clean with hot showers (bring quarters, $1.50 for 6mins)," reports Nick P. Many campgrounds have upgraded their facilities in recent years.

Spacious sites: Charlie Brown Campground receives praise for its site layout. "The RV sites are very large and the owners go out of their way to make you happy," says Doug R. Some campgrounds offer peninsula or waterfront sites for increased privacy.

Family activities: Pine Acres Family Camping Resort provides extensive programming for younger visitors. "AWESOME pools (very kid friendly), parks, dog park, hiking trails and even sections off of the trails to find your own private beach on the water," writes Rob L. The resort maintains a full calendar of events throughout the camping season.

    What you should know

Variable cell reception: Some campgrounds have limited connectivity. At Sutton Falls Camping Area, one camper reported: "Only problem was the cell signal. Without our antenna we only had 1 bar of both Verizon and AT&T. No signal at all on T-Mobile/Sprint." This affects those needing to work remotely.

Seasonal restrictions: Most campgrounds in the region operate from mid-April through October, with water systems winterized during colder months. Weekend reservations fill quickly during peak summer weeks and holiday periods.

Pet policies: Dog friendly campgrounds near South Uxbridge typically allow pets with restrictions. Some have designated swimming areas for dogs. At Charlie Brown Campground, "The dogs cannot go on the beach, but they can go in the boats," according to Jessica W.

    Tips for camping with families

Activity scheduling: Plan around organized events for maximum enjoyment. "Pine Acres Family Camping Resort has a full calendar of events (some free, some cost $) you will never be bored. Quiet time is quiet time which is great for families," shares Brian G.

Tent location considerations: Wilderness Lake Park offers secluded tent sites away from RV areas. "The host gave us a secluded spot in the back to the point I didn't feel like I was at a campground other than the fire ring," explains Robert L. This separation provides better sleeping conditions for families with younger children.

Water recreation options: Several campgrounds offer no-cost water equipment. "They even had free kayaks/canoes for the lake," notes Rob L. about Wilderness Lake Park. These amenities reduce the need to transport your own equipment.

    Tips from RVers

Varied hookup options: Thousand Trails Sturbridge provides different site configurations. "Had site B1, which was water and electric. Close to the pond," reports Mara S. Some campgrounds charge additional fees for sewer connections or dump services.

Leveling requirements: Prepare for uneven terrain at some campgrounds. "The site we stayed at (47) took a little leveling to get right but it was pretty nice having views of the water," notes Sean at Sutton Falls Camping Area.

Access considerations: Some campgrounds have narrow entrance roads or covered bridges. At Sutton Falls, one camper noted: "There's a covered bridge that scared me a little due to size concerns but it's quite tall and wide enough. Our rig is 11'9" to the top of the A/C and we had no issues."
