    Cozy Hills Campground

    Very nice campground however…

We have enjoyed our stay. Nice campground with lots of activities and things to do. However, we picked this place because it has an enclosed dog park. It does have an enclosed dog park but the fence is only 3 feet high. While this might be fine for some dogs, I have 2 young border collies that will jump that fence like it is not even there.

    Waters Edge Family Campground

    Incredible campground

Most amazing weekend with tons of woods (privacy is huge for us). Very friendly guests and staff! Amazing weekend with lots of fun for the kids and even the dogs! We’ve been to campgrounds with playgrounds worse than the waters edge dog park. Every one of us had a great time with the perfect campsite deep in the woods (still able to park my 26’ camper trailer). Swimming pool, great playground, among lots of trails and wooded area surrounding almost every site. Best camping weekends we’ve ever had have been at Waters Edge.

    Wilderness Lake Park

    Really enjoyed our time here

Quaint little campground. Not many tenting sites but along a beautiful lake. Pets allowed. Bathrooms close by 10, something to keep in mind. And they’re cash or check only! Taylor Pond is not far and a great hike to bring both kids and pets. This campground was perfect for us and our dog. Bring your own kayaks or use the campgrounds free of charge.

    Spacious Skies Woodland Hills

    A peaceful place with character.

My first visit to New York state was amazing, largely in part due to my campsite at the Woodland Hills campground. I had a back in site and was having problems with my camper, and they were able to change to a pull through at time of check in. However, it was in early May and before the summer crowds. The pond has a fountain which sounds like a small waterfall at night, and wildflowers were in bloom. Very nice bathrooms and showers, and my dog loved the dog park.

    Pine Acres Family Camping Resort

Great spot in the middle of nowhere

Miles and miles of country/forests surrounding pine acres, however pulling in you’ll soon realize how much goes on inside the campground. AWESOME pools (very kid friendly), parks, dog park, hiking trails and even sections off of the trails to find your own private beach on the water. Went there in a tent rather than our camper, which turned out to be better. Tent sites were very dispersed and way up on the top of the mountain. Camper sites seemed a little close but worth the sacrifice due to the incredible environment. On the more expensive side but worth the money if you have kids. Another big plus was the abundance of wood to get from fallen trees (not having to pay for the expensive bundles at the store) and the size of the fire pits

    Thousand Trails Sturbridge

Nice, yet cramped and no cell reception

I really wanted to like this place. It's in a very cool area that I didn't expect to be so awesome. First main issue was how bad the cell reception is. Normally, I'd day that's a perk for camping but we're full-timers and work on the road so it is important for us. Next, the place is massive and they are more about make money than making people comfortable. What could easily be a very nice and spacious pull-thru spot are 2 back to back back-ins. Unless you're lucky enough to get an end spot, those are pull-thru. Pros: awesome dog park, great office with laundry, activities, arcades, adult only room, community campfire, indoor pool with lifeguard, the staff is nice, there's a lake for swimming, boating, catch and release fishing. Their basketball court is on a shuffleboard court, playground is nice though. Close to Old Sturbridge Village and many cool hikes and MA cities.

    Bowdish Lake Camping Area

Wow! Beware of all the extra charges and filthy facilities

Bowdish Lake Camping Area is the worst campground we have ever been to and we travel fulltime! Their website states: $1,800-$3,600 per season (look for yourself on their website if you don’t believe me). We get there after reserving site Blue 65. They then charged us $3,900. Why? We have no idea! Then they charged us an additional $75.00 for our truck. Why I don’t know? Then they charged us an additional $50.00 for having our own kayak. Then they charged us an additional $50.00 for a small dog, $100.00 for large dogs (by the way they have no dog park). Then they charged us an additional $100.00 for cable. Then they charged us an additional .50 cents per kWh ( which cost us an average of$250.00 extra per month). The public facilities are filthy. They do not supply any toilet paper, hand soaps, hot water, etc. They charge you an additional charge by coin operated showers (cold water only) that are crawling with spiders, bugs and cobwebs.

    Douglas Forest RV Resort

    Awesome Campground In The Forest

We had an incredible stay at Douglas Forest RV Resort! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how peaceful and well-maintained everything was. The RV sites are spacious and easy to navigate, with full hookups and strong Wi-Fi— a big plus for us since we work remotely on the road. What really sets this place apart is the location. You’re literally steps away from Douglas State Forest, which made morning hikes and evening strolls absolutely magical. It’s pet-friendly too, and our dog loved the wooded trails and open areas. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the camp store had everything we needed. Even though the recreation area is still being built, the amenities already in place more than made up for it. We’re already planning our next trip for summer when the pool opens! If you’re looking for a relaxing spot that blends nature with convenience, look no further. Douglas Forest RV Resort is a true hidden gem!

Guide to Springfield

The Springfield area offers numerous pet-friendly camping options within short driving distances. The region sits at approximately 200 feet above sea level in the Connecticut River Valley, with moderate summer temperatures ranging from 70-85°F during peak camping season. Many campgrounds maintain wooded sites that provide natural shade and privacy screens between neighboring campsites.

What to do

Trail hiking with dogs: The Quarry Campground offers access to hiking trails where dogs can join their owners. "Very quiet. At night all you can hear is the crackling of the campfire," notes Michael, highlighting the peaceful atmosphere for evening walks.

Swimming options: Wilderness Lake Park provides free canoes and kayaks for campers with pets. "They even had free kayaks/canoes for the lake," shares Rob L., making it convenient for dog owners to enjoy water activities while camping.

Dog exercise areas: Many Springfield-area campgrounds feature dedicated spaces for pets to play. "They provide a store with all the essentials, a game room, laundry room, Rec hall, and multiple bathhouses throughout the Campground," reports Mallory P. about Brialee Campground, which also includes "a separate beach for dogs."

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Prospect Mountain Campground offers wooded sites that create natural barriers. "It looked like the sites were close together, but I was there before there were leaves on the trees and could see how there would be more privacy once they filled out," explains Dawn E.

Pet-friendly water features: Many campers appreciate the natural swimming areas. "Deep in the woods. Great variety of activities. Swimming lake, canoeing lake, pool, playgrounds," reports Kimberly B., highlighting the multiple water options at Brialee Family Campground.

Well-maintained grounds: Partridge Hollow Campground receives consistent praise for its upkeep. "Simple clean friendly family run campground," notes Jarrett F., reflecting the campground's commitment to maintaining their property.

What you should know

Reservation policies: Each pet-friendly campground maintains different policies regarding cancellations and deposits. "We just received email stating that the cancellation policy would apply," mentions one reviewer regarding a reservation issue.

Seasonal considerations: Many Springfield-area campgrounds operate from April through mid-October. "Open year round. Water is turned off October 15-April 15. Water available from rest room spigot," notes Frank L. about Westover ARB Military FamCamp.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Family-oriented campgrounds near Springfield provide structured programs. "Prospects mountain is a great campground for families with younger kids. They have activities every weekend such as dances, bingo, hayrides," shares Sandra S.

Swimming options for dogs and kids: Sunset View Farms offers water recreation for the whole family. "Has a swimming hole which encourages lots of bugs. Getting sung to sleep by frogs," observes Mary G K., noting both benefits and drawbacks.

Camp store conveniences: Many dog-friendly campgrounds maintain on-site stores for forgotten items. "There is a nice pool just getting ready to open we are here mid, May 14th we leave," explains Harold C., highlighting the amenities available during spring camping.

Tips from RVers

Site access considerations: Some dog-friendly campgrounds present challenges for larger vehicles. "The way in is very twisty and hilly. Was a challenge for our 33' towing a car but we made it!" shares Nancy about Partridge Hollow Campground.

Hookup variations: Not all advertised full hookups include the same features. "We did receive a pull thru with 50/30/20 and water and that was about it, the site is spacious and we just don't think 'leaving our grey tanks open' is an adequate 'fhu' site," explains Brittany V. about The Quarry Campground.

Seasonal site options: Many RVers with dogs choose longer-term arrangements. "We did a three month seasonal Site. Staff is super nice and helpful. We had a nice quite spot even though we where in the road to the lake," explains John M., describing his experience at Prospect Mountain Campground.
