          Grafton Notch Campground

Five years later, still five stars!

General: Small (15-site) campground near Grafton Notch State Park (but not IN the park). No hookups. Not all will agree with me, but I am glad no generators are allowed.

Site Quality: Sites are gravel, level, and have enough trees to afford privacy between sites.

Bath/Shower House: It is immaculately clean. Each gender has two stalls and one ADA-accessible shower. The shower has nice warm water and a great flow. There is also a very clean vault toilet.

Activities/Amenities: Horseshoes and cornhole in the lawn area in the center. Information on many local hikes. Rocky beach has tables where you can sit and relax. There are two dishwashing sinks, potable water, and a dump station.

What makes this campground shine is the owner, Mo. We’ve stayed in many campgrounds but hands down, Mo takes more pride in her campground than any other we’ve been in. Seasonal decorations, flower pots, and Mo is an on-site presence to answer questions, engage in conversation, and make sure the sites and all facilities are pristine. We stayed here five years ago and look forward to hopefully staying again in the future. About the only thing I can find fault with is the proximity to the road but even at that, road noise is minimal.

I really like that the campground has easy access to the hiking trails. Clean bathroom facilities and the free showers were nice and hot. Unfortunately, you can hear quite a bit of road noise.

I was nervous at first when I pulled up in a camper van--the "campground" was very much geared towards seasonal campers in large RVs. However, I was able to grab one of just a couple open spots on a Thursday afternoon. The staff (and residents) were so friendly and helpful. There were restrooms with coin-op showers and also a laundry room. Knocked off one star for the lack of privacy between sites and for the price ($70+ for essentially a parking spot with water/electricity is a bit much imo--at least make the showers free! lol)

          Beautiful Park Like Setting

We came into the park on a Wednesday in mid September and found that over half the spaces were open. We grabbed a spot about 60 feet from the lake.

The camping sites are large enough for a tent and a couple of vehicles. There are a few larger sites here and there. Sites are very close to neighboring camp sites so Privacy is poor

There are very nice bathroom facilities with hot showers, dish rinsing sinks and hot showers.

The view from the lake is amazing. We walked to the beach every morning with our chairs for coffee. VERY RELAXING!

There is a building near the entrance of the state park that says its a store but it looks pretty old and closed.

The young lady who delivered our park permit was exceptionally friendly and helpful. However, the people that clean the restrooms are about as polite as construction workers in Queens. They do have a garbage dumpster but it is located about a mile from the campground. Not very convenient for tent or van camping.

Overall the price charged for the sites seems higher than the value received.

          Pleasant stay at Stony Brook

The staff was very nice and helpful during our stay. There are a variety of sites to choose from and a bunch of things to do around the campground. The campground store also had a good supply of items, too. It sounds like the new owners are making improvements around the campground, so I'm excited to see how it comes along if I'm in the area again in the future!

Good place to see the surroundings

The reception at this campground is very friendly. Pitches are fairly spacious, but still a bit close together. Garbage is picked up in the morning, which is very nice.

The sanitary facilities are quite outdated and, in addition, could definitely be a bit cleaner.

The pool is clean, but everything around it also looks very outdated and worn.

We had a pleasant time here and would definitely recommend this place for a few days.

          Electrical Issues

I value the reviews left here, so I felt I needed to leave an honest review in hopes it will help someone else. We stayed here for almost 2 weeks. During that time there was a sewage smell near the bathhouse. The sites are not level and most are not shaded or very wide. We also had brown water and were extremely thankful for our multiple water filters. We paid for a 30 amp service, but had low voltage the entirety of our stay. The solution that was proposed, was that we remove our Watchdog EMS and Surge protector. We decided to keep our Watchdog on. They had several campsites on the same breaker, something we have never seen at any campground in our 3 years of travel. On our last day, we didn't even have enough voltage to keep fans running inside our RV. Please be aware that low voltage seems to be an ongoing problem as an RV behind us had an electrical cord burn up while we were there.

          Warning. Horrible experience.

There are no sewer hookups(which is fine) but you are only allowed ONE use at dump station upon leaving the campground. I arrived with a 1/3 tanks and wanted to dump on way into park because I was staying 3 days/nights and they said ok but you can’t dump on the way out(seriously?). I asked if I could pay for a second dump and it was$30. I’ll never go back.

          Great Staff, Nice Sites

We were greeted with the most amazing, kind and service oriented staff! Just wonderful to see these days. Our site was a pull through and it was wooded and flattish. Some rocks on boulders, but we fit in fine. We were right next to a tenting site. Kind of close, but we managed to put the back of the RV toward their site. It is dog friendly!!! Lots of things to do on grounds and around this area. We had a great time. Plus, they have nice hot showers for free. No quarters here! lol In short, we loved our time here.

better for tents, tight for RVs

I've stayed here a number of times and have enjoyed my stays.  This is a good campground to use as a base location when doing other things.  It is a small campground, but the tent sites are nicely dispersed in a small field.  In the late summer the grass will be 4' tall, it's a fun location.

The RV sites are stacked about as tight as I've ever seen them though.  Facilities are dated, but there are outhouses at the tent group sites.

If you stay here check out the suspension bridge and the island.

          Coastal State Park

Camden Hills state park is in a great spot, close to town and has a waterfront access. If you have a bigger rv you’ll want to stay in the field sites in the front of the park. The higher you go the better for tenting it is as it gets more forested.

          Pleasant River Campground

          Active Campground

This is a lovely little campground and the owners were fantastic when we ran into issues. If you have a larger RV beware what site you choose if you need to back in as some sites are narrow and weird angles. The front of the campground has a better section for bigger rigs. They have shuttles if you want to float the river and offer a lot of other activities.

I give the campground 5/5 but we had an interesting stay. We ended up needing to move sites because the group next to us was *awful* to put it nicely. Our second site was fantastic and our neighbors were fine.

Party Central. Loud. Not safe for children. Beach not safe to swim in.

This was a family campground years ago and used to be safe but was inherited by young people. Now it hosts loud Grateful dead and other big parties and music festivals all summer and caters to a bad crowd. Not recommended if you want sleep or for children. If you go here check the website very carefully for a week that isn't going to be crowded with hundreds of questionable people drinking and partying to loud music all night .

          great hiking

Nice state campground with tons of hiking trails right from the campground. We stayed in a non-hookup site for $38/night- very expensive but we wanted to stay in the area and enjoy the hiking trails. Most sites don’t have enough sun for solar, and those that do, are FHU sites. Go figure. We were in site #65, recommended to us by the ranger as having the most sun for our panels. 65 was nice because it was set apart from other sites, and kind of enclosed so it was nice for the dogs. But it’s in direct view of the dump station so if that bothers you don’t pick this site!

The drive up Mt Battie Rd was worth it for the views at the top. RVs are ok to drive on this road, and there’s RV parking at the top.

Showers are free, hot, and good pressure, but they are the creepiest campground showers, rusty and dark. Dump station and potable water are available.

There’s a little free library book exchange at the ranger station at the entrance. Verizon service was usable but very weak, ATT was better, and fine with the weboost. The campground offers wifi at $3 per day per connection, but we didn’t use it.

          Two Lakes Camping

          Typical Campground

We had a few sites scattered over the campground for the weekend and had an overall...interesting time. We live relatively close and have been here a few times, each time has been mid.

Getting into your site with a camper requires maneuvering no matter how you come into the campground. We had a few sites higher up in the campground and had a tent site right on the water near the "boat ramp".

I try not to judge a campground based on the people around you because you literally cannot control that. The beach had flooded the weekend that we were there, leaving the only beach area available the spot...in our site. A HUGE group of people set up camp IN OUR SITE. It left a really bad imprint on the weekend and I won't be returning.

The campground itself is average, wooded sites with a camp store, field area, small beach and basic amenities.
