Augusta West Kampground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Loon calls carry across the water most mornings at Augusta West Kampground, a lakeside campground in Winthrop, Maine that runs from mid-May through the end of September. The layout skews heavily toward RVs and trailers, with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer available at many sites, and a maximum RV length of 80 feet. A number of sites sit directly on the lake, and those tend to be the ones campers remember most.

Water access is the defining draw here. Reviewers mention fishing from the docks, kayaking, and canoeing on the lake, and multiple visitors have spotted bald eagles overhead. Sites vary considerably in privacy. Newer sites near the entrance road are gravel and spacious but open to foot traffic, while much of the campground runs sites close together with limited separation between neighbors. A high proportion of seasonal campers means the crowd skews toward regulars rather than through-travelers. Campers planning a trip to the campgrounds near Winthrop area will find the lake-facing spots here fill up first on weekends.

Robert L. notes that the "sunrise on the water" is worth an extra star, though he also flags a 3am freight train on Friday nights as a real noise factor worth planning around. The campground provides drinking water, showers, WiFi, and a dump station. Pets are allowed, and reservations are available. Nearby alternatives include Jellystone Park™ Androscoggin Lake to the west and Birches Lakeside Campground a few miles to the southeast. If a lakefront site with full hookups in central Maine fits your itinerary, it's worth booking one of the waterside spots directly.

Beautiful Lakeside Campground

This a beautiful spot, right on the Lake, listened to the loons, watched Canadian Geese with their goslings and saw a bald eagle swoop down and try to get something. There is a Really nice grocery store near by. We went to Maine Cabin Masters Store, which if you’re a fan was fun.

Good for big rigs

We stayed in the “new sites” adjacent to the entrance road; it was a long nice site with gravel but was not private. Most sites are packed in; close to others with not a lot of privacy. Overall the campground has some nice sites along the lake. The staff was friendly and accommodating. A lot of seasonal sites

Quaint/well organized

For the most part it’s RVs and trailers. Sites are equipped with water and electric. If you have sewer. Lots of Lakeside sites.

Really loved the scenery....canoe around the lake, visit 1Big Sustainable island. Lot of tent sites on the water, we had #24, with loud family of 6 children 10’ away. Friday night 3am train is loud. Sunrise on the water beautiful, which gives this site an extra star

Great Lakeside Site!

Loved our site right on the water and access to the docks for fishing & kayaking! Kids caught many sunfish & had loads of fun! Very quiet but quaint campground! Loved waking up to the sounds of the loons & even spotted a bald eagle! We would deff return! Loved that the office followed COVID 19 safety and were very nice!
