Best Campgrounds near Prospect, KY

Site 22 was so sloped our red levelers barely made it work. Sore needed gravel, it was mostly sticky dirt that got tracked into our travel trailer immediately after sweeping. Lots of locals grouped together in the inner circle sites that were very loud, hooting and hollering until 1:30 in the morning. This campground needs work, which a few sites were recently concreted, but many haven’t seen gravel in years. The park and lodge are fantastic, with wonderful waterfalls and trails. Too bad the extra $9 fee on top of the campsite cost doesn’t seem to be going to the campground

Well I really have nothing bad to say, it’s a country setting on the outskirts of Bardstown, KY. It’s just a few miles away from the scenic parts of town.

I did not use the shower or restrooms here, so can’t really say much about those. (Since most campers these days have these)

It is a large campground and my one and only complaint/suggestion is the area where my camper was set had grass in desperate need of attention. This could and should be a really nice place with just a bit more attention.

The staff at check in were exceptionally friendly and drove us to our site.

Site #11: nice shade tree, lots of roots exposed, set up tent on stone to avoid roots. Great space between the tent sites, but virtually no real privacy as public traffic into park was steady. awesome wildlife for a park within the city: herons, geese (except for poop), ducks, turtles, beavers. We didn't see the coons but put food away every night as they visited our camp on a nightly basis.

Long way to a newer bath house, port-a-john almost as far away in opposite direction. RV spots were really tight. Shelter with electrical outlet attached to bathhouse. Indoor and outdoor pool in the other half of the park. Kayak rental available. Host friendly and helpful. Bathhouse is four units, each with sink, toilet and shower. Could have been a lot cleaner. In our five day stay, no deep clean, but always had TP. Overall, enjoyed our stay, appreciated our Luggable Loo as a backup.

Nice area, County Fair while we were there, historic downtown. Several grocery stores, thrift stores and boutiques. Renaissance festival nearby.

Huge state park with long roadway to various trails and shelters. The campground is very large and very well kept. All the sites are pretty much the same with good spacing between them. Most are electric only but we got one of the handful of full hookup sites. There is little shade to be found here. Rose Island is very cool- Haunting but sublime. The paved trail to see Rose Island is about 1/2 mile long hill that is very steep in parts. We took bikes and scooters but half of it had to be walked. The campground playground is small,, not much to write home about. Nice flat paved loops and sites that are good for biking. Trails look very nice. Overall it is a solid place that works for a weekend or a few days.

We camped 2 nights and 3 days here.  The campground was pretty nice.  We had a non-electric site (159). It had extra space and was next to the bathhouse.  There were some trees there that my kids could put up their hammocks during the day.  Nice and level and had a large tree there as well.  Was also right next to the camp host site, if that's something that's important to you. 

The bathhouse was really, really nice.  Very clean and spacious.  However, there was no hot water.  I think this was just a fluke, the camp host said they had just had issues with the hot water heater.  We just walked to another bathhouse for a hot shower (those weren't as nice but, hot water so...).  

The park itself is just okay.  The Trail 7 hike was a little disappointing.  You could see the falls but not super well.  It's one that you need to do to see the falls but not my favorite hike there.  The best hike, in my opinion, was Trail 6 to 5, then down to 2, and back up to 5, finishing on Trail 4 at Hoffman Falls.  Lots to see on that hike and not very crowded.
