Mammoth Cave Campground — Mammoth Cave National Park

I came here an early November, and it has been very quiet. There is very little signal for AT&T, and my Starlink is not very helpful because many of the trees still have leaves on, and it makes for a dense canopy. Site C 079 is fine for my 23’ sprinter van, though I had to put two levels of blocks under the front to get close to level.

Long Branch — Center Hill Lake

A Big-Rig-Friendly COE Worth Returning To

We stayed here overnight on the way to Gatlinburg and three nights on the way back. GPS and signage was good as getting to this COE was easy. Often you don’t know what you’re going to get at a COE i.e. tight roads, low hanging branches etc. This was not the case as the campground (CG) is big rig friendly. For the overnighter, we checked in at the gate and proceeded to back in site 50 with water and electric (50/30/20 AMP). We had no problem backing into site 50 which sits above the creek that runs through the side of the CG. The gravel pad was fairly level(didn’t need any blocks under tires) with a picnic table, fish cleaning station, fire pit and stand up bbq. For the three nights we were in back in site 37, which was along the fence side of the CG. Site 37 had the same picnic table, cleaning table, stand up bbq and fire pit. This site’s pad was plenty long enough so we could put our toy hauler patio down. For both sites we got 1 bar on both Verizon and T-Mobile. As there is no Wifi in this CG, we used starlink. Since our starlink antenna is not hard mounted, we were able to move the antenna around to get a good signal through the trees. We were surprised this COE didn’t sell firewood nor ice. We enjoyed walking our dog around and even did some fly fishing in the adjacent river. We thoroughly enjoyed this COE.

      Nashville Shores

      Great Off Season Stay

We followed RV Life Trip Wizard GPS and Waze off I-40 to Nashville Shores RV Resort without any issues. Check-in was quick, easy, and informative, and we headed to back-in site 7 with full hookups (FHUs). The concrete pad was level, with the water hookup located at the very back of the site. Water pressure was good at around 60 psi but dropped somewhat as the campground (CG) filled up over the weekend. We had 3 bars on both Verizon and T-Mobile, with T-Mobile providing a respectable 108 Mbps download. We used our T-Mobile Home Internet, which delivered 126 Mbps, rather than Starlink. Although there were trees along the CG's perimeter, most sites appeared to have a reasonably clear view of the sky for satellite internet. Site spacing was okay, although neighboring RVs were still fairly close. Several sites were located along the lake, with a few appearing long enough to accommodate larger rigs. We suggest calling the office for details on reserving one of those waterfront sites. One of our favorite amenities was the large fenced dog run, with plenty of room to throw a ball and let our pup burn off some energy. We also appreciated having two fire pits at our site. One was behind our rig, providing a nice spot away from the CG road, while the other was near the front, next to a small concrete patio with a picnic table. Although the CG filled up during our mid-October weekend stay, the adjacent water park had closed for the season on October 1. Without the water park crowds and activity, we found Nashville Shores to be a very enjoyable place to stay."

      Love's RV Hookup-Horse Cave KY 360

Lots of traffic right off the interstate. Their pricing is expensive, and then they add charges for showers and wast dump. Most traditional RV parks include showers and waste dumps in the costs for an overnight. I don't recommend this.

Singing Hills RV Park And Campground

Current owners are great but they are in the middle of a sale. The 59Amp power at site 12 is missing leg 2 so we used 30 Amp socket instead. No problem as the weather was wonderful.

      Oliver Family Farm

The hosts, Kent and Lisa, were extremely friendly and accommodating. This is a private lot beside their pole barn on level concrete. It fit my 30ft TT perfectly. You'll enjoy time with the horses, chickens, and cows. Great sunsets and sunrises, but better people. Felt like a bed and breakfast but you sleep in your own bed. And just about 30 minutes to Mammoth Cave.

      Nashville KOA Resort

Great RV Resort and Perfect for Visiting Nashville

We had such a nice stay. From the moment we arrived, we felt comfortable and welcomed. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, and the whole campground had a really nice, relaxed feel to it.

Our site was spacious and easy to get into, and we really appreciated how clean and well cared for everything was. After spending the day exploring Nashville, it was nice to come back to the campground, slow down and just enjoy the evening.

The location worked out great for us too. We were close enough to enjoy everything Nashville has to offer, but when we came back to the RV, it felt like we could get away from all the activity and relax.

One of the things we enjoy about RV travel is finding places that you actually look forward to coming back to at the end of the day, and this was definitely one of those places. We made some great memories here and would absolutely stay again the next time we’re in Nashville!

      Rural Hill Farm

      Shake out

We came here for our shake out of our new trailer as it’s only about 20 min from home and we could still go to work. We will probably come back when we just want to “get out of the house” for a few days.

The place is beautiful and if you want to be in the middle of nowhere, this is it! The grounds are easily walkable with a lot of open spaces. Saw a lot of wildlife so come in slow so you don’t hit a deer.

Do NOT come in from South Mount Juliet road. The turn onto Couchville Pike is tight for cars, let alone pulling a camper. Come in off of I-840 and you will be fine.

We got decent wifi and I did a video call without lag. Full hookups (50amp)

No on site staff that we saw other than grounds crew.

    Guide to Scottsville

Camping spots near Scottsville, Kentucky cluster primarily around Barren River Lake, a 10,000-acre reservoir situated at approximately 552 feet above sea level. Most campgrounds operate seasonally from mid-April through October, with summer temperatures averaging 85-90°F during peak camping months. Primitive camping options exist in addition to the established sites, with Morning View Farms offering creek-side tent sites for campers seeking a more rustic experience.

    What to do

Fishing at The Narrows: Located on Barren River Lake, this campground features specialized fishing amenities at campsites. One camper noted, "A cool feature in the sites is a fish cleaning table as well as fire ring and picnic table," making it convenient for anglers to process their catch right at camp.

Kayaking from Baileys Point: Launch your kayak directly from this lakeside campground with easy water access. "We love that our boat can be moored into a cove very near site. Always beautiful views of Barren River Lake," reports Bill G., highlighting the direct water access that makes this spot popular with boaters.

Swimming at Barren River Tailwater: This campground located below the dam offers swimming opportunities in calmer water. One reviewer shared that "We ended up renting out 2 campsite spots to fit 8 of us... The Barren River is right next to the campground and makes for a beautiful day to head down to the river and cool off."

Minigolf at Bowling Green KOA: Approximately 30 minutes from Scottsville, this campground offers activities beyond water recreation. "This KOA has a pool, fishing, putt putt, dump station, general store, cabins... kids play scape, large chess board, and a dog park," according to Joe F., making it a good option when looking for varied activities.

    What campers like

Lakeside views: Many campers specifically mention the water views as a highlight of camping in this region. At Baileys Point, Kelly W. appreciated that "The sites are sit up so there is a view of the lake from most of the sites and the site are fairly large. The grounds were very clean and maintained including the bath house."

Wildlife watching: The region offers opportunities for wildlife observation from your campsite. At Mammoth Cave Campground, which is within driving distance from Scottsville, one camper shared, "Deer would just walk up near you and just say hello. It's so peaceful and it allows me to think that there's not all bad here on Earth."

Clean facilities: Many campers mention well-maintained bathrooms and grounds. One camper at The Narrows noted it as "a very nice, clean campground. Bathrooms are clean as well. Very nice view of Barren River lake too," showing that basic amenities meet high standards.

Easy boat access: For boaters, the ability to keep watercraft near campsites ranks highly. Beth H. explained about Baileys Point: "We've stayed here several times and always love it. Love being able to access the lake. Sites are spaced nicely, lots of shade in most areas. We usually stay in the E loop."

    What you should know

Seasonal closures: Most campgrounds in the Scottsville area close during winter months. Barren River Tailwater operates from May to mid-September, while Baileys Point extends from mid-April to late October.

Limited year-round options: Only a few campgrounds operate through winter. Roger W. noted about Barren River Tailwater: "Electric Hookup: Yes, however off during winter 24/25... Only at one location during winter. Pit toilets at far end open."

Shower availability varies: Not all campgrounds offer showers. The Narrows and Baileys Point lack shower facilities, while Barren River Lake State Resort Park provides them. Dawn C. mentioned about the state park facilities: "The restrooms are spotless and don't smell at all but they do tend to get stuffy when it's hot out because no ac or fan in them."

Cell service fluctuations: Reception can be spotty depending on location and carrier. One camper at Barren River Tailwater reported: "AT&T service did not work.. Verizon was hit and miss," highlighting connectivity challenges that campers should prepare for.

    Tips for camping with families

Playgrounds within walking distance: Several campgrounds feature play areas for children. At Morning View Farms, a reviewer noted the overall experience was "peaceful, serene, and everything we needed for a relaxing time away from home," making it suitable for families seeking a quieter setting.

Themed activities: For families wanting structured entertainment, consider themed campgrounds slightly further from Scottsville. Samantha B. reported about Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park: "This is the kind of campground you can take your kids, never leave the campground, and have fun for days... We did arts and crafts, bingo, trick or treating, watched the golf cart parade, played on several of the different playgrounds, and putt putt golf."

Beach access: Some campgrounds offer swimming beaches, providing water fun without a boat. A camper at The Narrows mentioned: "I did not use it but there is a nice sand beach for swimming," giving families an option for water recreation beyond fishing or boating.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the area have uneven sites requiring preparation. At Barren River Lake State Resort Park, Tiffany D. advised: "Our site was very narrow and had a huge drop off, we were told the neighbors beside us about flipped theirs trying to back in. The site was not level... If you stay here, I recommend only doing pull through sites."

Hook-up locations: Check hook-up placement before selecting sites. Some campers report inconvenient utility locations. A camper at Barren River Lake State Resort Park noted that "the water was on the opposite side of our camper (more annoying than anything)," suggesting RVers should confirm hook-up positioning.

Dump station congestion: Plan departure timing to avoid dump station lines. Beth H. warned about Baileys Point: "Also gets a little crowded at the dump station on the weekends at check our time," suggesting mid-week or non-peak checkout times for smoother departures.
