Campgrounds near Jamestown, Kentucky cluster around Lake Cumberland, offering multiple options for overnight stays. Lake Cumberland State Resort Park provides camping for tents, RVs, and cabins with sites generally open April through October. Kendall Campground, operated by the Army Corps of Engineers, features well-maintained sites with electric hookups along the Cumberland River below the dam. Additional facilities include Russell Springs KOA with cabin rentals, Hidden Ridge Camping with glamping tents and lodge accommodations, and Old Chimney RV Park with full hookup sites. Most developed campgrounds in the area provide basic amenities like picnic tables, fire rings, and access to restroom facilities.

The camping season in this region typically runs from spring through fall, with many campgrounds closing for winter. A visitor commented, "We tent camped in August. The campground area was huge and perfect for tent camping or an RV. The restrooms were air conditioned and very clean!" Road access to most campgrounds is suitable for standard vehicles, though some sites may require longer power cords due to utility placement. Several campgrounds offer boat access options, particularly those situated along Lake Cumberland. Reservations are recommended, especially during summer weekends and holidays when waterfront sites fill quickly. Campers should note that while most campgrounds provide water and electric hookups, not all offer sewer connections, and shower facilities vary by location.

Fishing opportunities represent a significant draw for campers in the Jamestown area. The Cumberland River below the dam at Kendall Campground is particularly noted for trout fishing, with a camper writing, "Great place to camp, fly fish, fish, all around great place." Lake Cumberland provides additional water recreation options including boating and swimming. While most campgrounds offer some shade, tree coverage varies by location. Family-friendly amenities like playgrounds can be found at several campgrounds, particularly at Kendall and the KOA. Campers seeking more secluded experiences might prefer the wooded sites at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park, though reviews indicate these can be noisy during peak season. Wildlife sightings, particularly deer, are common throughout the area's campgrounds.

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park Cabins & Cottages

Cumberland Falls ST Park Clifty Tent Camping

Most of the camp sites on the Clifty side are small and right on top of each other, except one- T-49. T-49 is off by itself and its big and private. There is a trail head (12) right next to the site, which was great. Its about a 1.5 mile hike, moderately difficult. This site is also not too far from the bathrooms, which were very clean.  You can fill up a water can in the bathroom. We have At&t and had no service at the camp site. Lastly, there is plenty of fire wood at the site if you're willing to process it. So long as it has not rained recently, no need to buy fire wood. 5 stars for sure!

      Green River Stables

Expensive, period. Dishonest, period. Crazy. Not quiet. Drunks and unsuperv

Prioritize money over safety of guests, period. Focus on seasonal money over long-term gas period management has literally said, we don't like these people, we realize you don't like these people, but we need their money, so get along with them. This is what they tell their permanent people to deal with during the summer when there are drunks. Literally had golf carts with unsupervised kids going past the house, over 300 notifications. Normal traffic is about 100, just on the weekend. Drunks on boats. Management is two-faced. They are so focused on making it a bougie place since they took over four and a half, five years ago, that they no longer care about making sure that they have a community that cares about each other. They have three communities. They have permanent communities who care about the park and get together and look out for each other. Then they have seasonal people who are drunk, don't care, don't follow the rules. And then they have work groups who they prioritize over residents and people who have picked up, cleaned the park, cared about the park, and don't want to see toddlers get run over by kids on golf carts like last summer. Every summer, it is nuts. There's no quiet anytime anymore, even in the dead of winter. This place is nuts. Overpriced. If you get anything in permission, like I did, get it in writing or management will use it to throw you out. I had permission for what I was doing. I'd done it for three years, and they prioritized a group of project workers that will be gone in a few months over a long-term resident who is disabled, not available to meet, not arguing with a neighbor who's a child, and lied three times in the middle of our own private conversation and ran to management with lies.

Green River Lake State Park Campground

      Just passing through

A beautiful well maintained state park. Would have got 5 stars but no electricity at sites due to flooding and the warnings online made it sound like it was just a few sites affected but we had a generator so it all worked out definitely worth a visit

    Guide to Jamestown

Camping sites near Jamestown, Kentucky center around Lake Cumberland, a 65,530-acre reservoir with 1,255 miles of shoreline. The region sits at approximately 723 feet elevation and experiences humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-90°F with moderate humidity, creating favorable conditions for water-based recreation.

    What to do

**Trout fishing: Located directly below Wolf Creek Dam, Kendall Campground offers exceptional fishing access. "You can fish the river or you can fish the stream they put in where they release the trout to get into the river better have your fishing license though," advises camper Kirk B. The National Fish Hatchery adjacent to the campground stocks the waters regularly.

**Disc golf: Pulaski County Park features an extensive disc golf course that doubles as a hiking experience. "The disc golf will take you on quite a hike and to another parking lot and trailhead totally outside the park," notes reviewer Shelly S. The course winds through varied terrain with multiple elevation changes.

**Mountain biking: Trails at Pulaski County Park cater to mountain biking enthusiasts with various difficulty levels. "The trails are varied and pretty cool. They twist and turn and cross creeks and hill tops... They are all mountain bike oriented and a few are challenging," explains reviewer Shelly S. Trail maps are available at the park office.

    What campers like

**Wildlife viewing: Kendall Campground provides regular wildlife encounters, especially deer. One camper noted, "We had daily deer visitors at our site and went trout fishing too. The walking trails around the brooke and campground were easy enough even for someone with limited mobility." Morning and evening hours offer the best wildlife spotting opportunities.

**Waterfront access: Cumberland Point Campground occupies a peninsula with sites overlooking Lake Cumberland. "This was one of my favorite campgrounds that I have been to in a while. I loved the views of the lake and the fact that the campground is very secluded," writes Nick P. The nine-mile access road from KY 80 requires careful driving but rewards visitors with privacy.

**Clean facilities: Despite basic amenities, many campgrounds maintain high cleanliness standards. At Kendall Campground, Tom B. observed, "Clean, well maintained, spacious sites. Excellent staff." Several locations feature air-conditioned restroom facilities during summer months.

    What you should know

**Hookup challenges: Electrical and water connections at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park may require extra equipment. "Take an extra power cord. Electric and water are laid out poorly and we had to purchase an extra cord," warns Travis S. Many sites feature awkward utility placement that doesn't align with standard RV configurations.

**Seasonal closures: Most campgrounds near Jamestown operate from April through October. Fall Creek Campground typically closes after September 7, while Lake Cumberland State Resort Park remains open until October 31. Winter camping options are extremely limited in this region.

**Limited shower facilities: Several campgrounds lack shower facilities entirely. Kendall Campground provides restrooms but no showers, with one camper noting, "Shower house is not heated and it is extremely uncomfortable... Be prepared to keep pressing a button every 55 seconds to get water."

    Tips for camping with families

**Playgrounds and recreation: Multiple family-friendly amenities exist at Fall Creek Campground. "There is a playground and plenty of walking to do," mentions Karen P. The campground sits on a hillside with most recreational facilities concentrated near the main entrance.

**Swimming options: Lake access for swimming varies significantly between locations. Pulaski County Park features a designated beach area. "Great beach access. Quite and very clean," notes Lee-Ann R. Most swimming areas lack lifeguards, so family supervision remains essential.

**Cabin alternatives: Hidden Ridge Camping offers lodge accommodations for families seeking comfort without sacrificing nature immersion. "This lodge offers all the amenities of home, while still being deep in nature. So close to hiking, activities and water fun!" explains Ashley F. Rates increase during summer months and holiday weekends.

    Tips from RVers

**Site dimensions: Older campgrounds may have difficulty accommodating larger rigs. At Lake Cumberland State Resort Park, Ronnie C. advises, "Make sure you pay attention to each site description. The Full hookup/ADA sites are new, the rest are vintage from the 70s." Most campgrounds post maximum length restrictions online.

**Leveling considerations: Terrain at many Lake Cumberland area campgrounds presents leveling challenges. "The campground needs investment as majority of the sites are narrow with difficult positions for hooking up and leveling," notes Ronnie C. Bringing extra leveling blocks is recommended even at sites marked as level.
