Quiet small state park

Most but not all sites are level. Decent amount of space. Restrooms are ok. Pretty quite.

The mosquitos were crazy!

Used to be a Quarry

We love love love to come camping here. It's $10.00 per night last we stayed, placed into a self pay pole. While the grounds are mowed that is about all that is done on the camping side of the river for maintenance. I won't walk into the pit style restrooms let alone use them (kids can be jerks…

Quite basecamp

Got into the park after 5pm, so went to my site as office was closed till 6. Discovered sites had no water spigot, so filled up by the office. Sites are fairly flat clay soil, so I didn't have to level much. A thunderstorm didn't create any driving issues. Campground is among tall trees, but I…

Nice spot, warm showers, good views

I stayed for one night on my drive down the Mississippi. Easy campground, toilets were clean and showers were warm. Beautiful sunset from the ridge. Take a look at the campsite map before booking because half of the campsites at Wisconsin Ridge have beautiful views and half are in the woods. Did a…

Great family campground

We visited the resort over a long weekend and had an absolute blast. It really is a treat that the Root River Bike Trail System runs right along the campground. We spent most of our time exploring the trail, visiting Lanesboro and Whalen.

Pretty good.

Overall a nice place. It was very wet, standing water in the grass from lots of rain. Spot 105. Not much room between sites there and had to back turn around and back down the road to park. Memorial wknd, they had a very nice pot luck lunch and pork chops on a stick, all free and great food. Shower…

Feels like you’re in the middle of the woods

For a campground that’s not too far out of the way, you feel so secluded and hidden away in the woods. Its quiet and really easy to get some solitude.

A beautiful campground with a beach and hiking

Cushon’s Peak has so much to offer. It’s a beautiful campground with river access on a nice beach, and hiking galore. I’ve hiked all over the bluff known as Cushon’s Peak and it has easy parts and challenging areas. And although the entire vertical climb is probably going to be less than an hour if…

Nice place!

Great camping for tent. Bike trails and good trout fishing. You can acess the whole city of Decorah and all the scenic places by walking or bikes. Clean showers and bathrooms, large playground, internet at the front building incase you need to work.

Good place to stop

This county run location is a nice place to stop. Good amenities. They do pack you in but I’ve been in tighter spots where I had to pay more , so we didn’t mind. The most expensive spot was about $30 a night. I think this is a party spot as a few people could be heard until 1 am, but overall it…

Great view, lots of spaces busy.

Our spot was right on a corner and made for difficult parking and lots of traffic. But the campground was large with available space last minute and the view was great.

Great stay here

Stayed here two nights in late August. From our site (30) we had a nice view of the water which was about a 3min walk. Site was mostly level with gravel, picnic table and fire pit/grate. The trees on this look are amazingly tall and provide great shade. Park was clean and maintained. We didn’t use…

Two campgrounds to enjoy at Backbone State Park

Backbone State Park is unlike any other place in Iowa, having geological features uncommon in Iowa.

There are two campgrounds. I have camped in both:

Modern Campground: This is a large, modern campground with all of the standard amenities found in a modern campground… electric hookups,…

Lots to do!

This campground is perfectly situated on the Upper Iowa River. Had some beautiful sites along the river (couldn’t book one four our stay) but our site was nice (grass pad- spaced out fairly well from others) The best part of this camp is they offer tube canoe and kayak rentals with a shuttle to the…
