Dover AFB Famcamp provides RV camping for military personnel with full hookup sites offering 50-amp electric, sewer, and water connections. The campground remains open year-round with big rig friendly spaces that accommodate larger motorhomes. "The sites are big and spaced far apart. Lots of privacy," noted one camper about the general RV camping experience in the region. Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay in Millsboro operates seasonally from March through October, featuring concrete pads with full hookups including 50-amp service for larger RVs, though sites at some area parks can be tightly spaced with limited room for slide-outs.

Several RV parks in the Dover area provide amenities specifically designed for motorhome travelers. Dump stations are available at most facilities, though some require payment for use. Cell service varies throughout the region, with stronger coverage near populated areas and potential dead zones in more remote locations. Pet policies differ between parks, with most allowing pets but imposing restrictions on breed types and requiring leashes. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, some RV sites may present leveling challenges—one visitor mentioned needing to rehitch and reposition their rig due to significantly unlevel pads with drainage gulleys. Seasonal reservation patterns show higher occupancy during summer months and fall weekends when advance booking becomes essential.

      Quiet, Clean and Friendly

We stayed at the group site campground with our horse.  We found the sites to be large, and  clean.  The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they have fall activities for the family, at the lake and nature hikes.  The porta potty's are very clean, have hand sanitizer and plenty of paper.   Will be returning again in a few weeks.  Plenty of trails to ride on.  A true gem in our own backyard.

      Great park

Many long term seasonal sites. Good community. Large shower house good and clean . Pool. Game room. Off leash dog park. Wooded/shady sites or no shade sunny sites. Lots of area to walk or play. Large field, basketball couture, frisky golf, play area and laundry room. We were here all summer (June-october). Lots to do in the area. Good food nearby. Ocean city 10 minutes away.

      Ocean View Resort Campground

One of the best campgrounds I have ever stayed in

This is one of the largest, if not the largest, campgrounds in Southern New Jersey. While on the pricier side, everything is top-notch. The roads are all paved, and not gravel (I hate trying to sleep and listening to the sound of stones grating together). The sites are more spacious than most campgrounds, so it doesn't seem so crowded. The bathrooms are all modern and spotless. There are numerous bathrooms which means most sites have one nearby. They do charge a quarter for showers to encourage water conservation and donate the money to conservation causes. The pool is large, as is the lake. Both are well-maintained. The camp store is enormous and is really nice and well-stocked with everything one might need from food to pool and beach stuff to camping supplies and equipment. There is a nice cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. The camp store has a lending library of books and DVDs. There are numerous activities that appear to be well-run, The grounds are shaded with many trees for a great wooded campground feel. The campground is so large that it has an internal shuttle with stations scattered about to help people go between the various important sites such as at the pool, the lake and the store. I found other campers, particularly the seasonals, to be more friendly than other campgrounds at the shore. This requires constant tree care including removing dead trees and branches which they do regularly. The staff is friendly and well-trained. I was in a tent, and when a rare October nor'easter came through, I was offered the opportunity to use a cabin free-of-charge. Fortunately my tent and equipment made it through days of rain and high winds just fine . On my first stay in May, I had to run my dog back to Baltimore towards the end of my trip where he was sadly diagnosed with incurable metastatic cancer. When I returned, I was late and unable to check out by 11, but they allowed me to take as much time as needed to clear the site, as nobody was staying there the next day, which was deeply appreciated - I was an emotional wreck. Oh, and I found the complimentary Wi-Fi to be a great service, and sufficiently fast to allow me to stream ultra-high-definition movies at my site - Most campgrounds charge extra for less-than-good service - a lot more. I find that a big bonus. Overall, I LOVE this campground and highly recommend it.

      The Depot Travel Park

      Enjoyed my stay

I’ve stayed here multiple times over the past 15 years and I have enjoyed each trip.

Depot Travel Park is a well-maintained family-owned campground. It is also reasonably priced, especially given the location that is within a bicycle ride to the beach, the ocean, and lots of shops and restaurants in Cape May. It is the only campground on the Cape May side of the canal.

Please note that this is not a resort campground and it doesn’t have a pool. There is so much to do in Cape May that is doesn’t need to be a resort.

Since it’s not a resort campground, there are not many golf carts, so most people use their bicycles or cars to get around. That also makes the campground pretty quiet, even during the peak of summer.

The campground sells firewood and propane, but there is no camp store. Again, it doesn’t really need one, since there is a farmers market at the end of the driveway, and a CVS and an ACME supermarket within bicycle riding distance.

If your site doesn’t have a sewer hookup, the dump station is a little awkward to access, but they have a daily honey wagon for a reasonable fee, which is great. If you notify the office the day before you need it and they are usually there in the morning.

They close for the season n October, but they reopen briefly during the Cape May Christmas Parade weekend in December. That’s one thing that I’d like to do soon.

I really like this campground and I am always recommending it to friends.

Don’t go unless you want harassment

My check in was for 8-6-2026, and bc I’m a new driver and wanted to beat traffic I got there early (7am) so I sit there waiting till check in time. When suddenly the park police show up. He’s accusing me of camping over night there. I told him simply I wasn’t and where I was night prior (would never sleep somewhere without permission). So we go to the store to kill time before we check in. Come back for Check in and the whole staff in just the office alone were so arrogant and cold to my mom and I, leaving rude comments to us and not only where they like that but the staff outside the office was acting like that alongside the rangers and park police. They would watch us the whole visit in the distance parking there cars a little ways watching everything we did, even driving by slowly a bunch of times in just an hour alone. My mom and I couldn’t do anything with out them showing up 2 mins later. Example we were walking our dog enjoying our time(trying to) and all of a sudden one of the office ladies pulls up right in front of us speeding, parks their car, gets out and walks a distance from us standing there and taking pictures of us…. For walking our dog who’s on a leash and didn’t even do anything. The whole trip we felt uncomfortable and unwanted and to find out they police when we were going on walks where coming up to campers near us bribing them with free firewood to get any information on use (told to us by other camper). I paid a lot of money to be harassed and followed the whole time. We never did anything we abide by every rule and keep to ourselves everywhere we go. They even made my mother cry…

      Lums Pond State Park Campground

      Lums Pond campground

First time at this campground really like it a lot will be returning. The bathrooms are always clean. The grounds are always kept up. Just a really nice place to stay. Most of the sites have some kind of shade.

    Guide to Dover

Eastern Delaware's coastal plain offers RV camping near Dover, Delaware with a mix of state-managed and privately-owned sites. The region sits at near sea level with temperatures ranging from 80°F+ in summer to below freezing in winter. Camping facilities within a 45-mile radius of Dover include full-service RV resorts as well as more rustic state park options with varying levels of amenities.

    What to do

Water activities by the pond: Lums Pond State Park Campground features a large pond where visitors can rent paddle boats and small v-bottom boats. "We ended up on the equestrian trail that runs all the way around the pond. It was a long, but easy hike," notes Mark at Lums Pond State Park Campground.

Beach access options: Multiple campgrounds provide beach access within driving distance. "We loved the ability to stay in a peaceful campground with beautiful views and still be able to drive to the boardwalk and ocean beaches," according to April L. who stayed at Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay.

Fishing opportunities: Several camping areas allow fishing directly from campsites. "Fishing piers, (I love to crab) catch them and steam them in my camper (a MD thing :-)" shares Lisa T. from Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina. The area provides various freshwater and saltwater fishing environments.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate larger camping spaces in the Dover region. "The sites are large and well spaced. Many are in full sun. The bathroom facilities and laundry are clean and modern," reports Adam and Suzanne B. about their stay at Lums Pond State Park Campground.

Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness receives frequent positive mentions in reviews. "Bathhouse available but I didn't use it. Pool was closed but looked nice. There was a fenced dog area and play set," notes Laure D. from Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina.

Swimming options: Multiple pools and water features attract families. "Nice pool, clean showers, quarters for a shower. We paid $40 night in almost mid September," shares M J. about Sun Retreats Seashore Campsites & RV Resort. Several campgrounds offer both pool and natural swimming areas.

    What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Uneven terrain affects many campgrounds in the region. "Site are very unleveled so the staff switched us to a pull thru space that was a tad bit more level but still very unleveled," reports Daniel C. from Mays Landing Resort.

Seasonal population: Many campgrounds have long-term seasonal residents. "We got a nice level site with a concrete pad under the picnic table. Partially shaded. Far and away this resort is used by seasonal and cabin campers," notes Carl S. from Thousand Trails Lake & Shore.

Golf cart traffic: Multiple reviews mention golf cart traffic as a concern. "The golf carts were the absolute worst, people don't obey the speed limit on these things (and there are a lot of them whizzing around...) Many were driven by underage kids (against rules, but clearly not enforced)," reports Matthew E. from Sun Retreats Seashore Campsites.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature good playgrounds for children. "Our daughter really enjoyed the playground (which was excellent, by my standards). She fought us about leaving the playground, and really would have been content if that was all we did," shares Mark from Lums Pond.

Beach considerations: Beaches near campgrounds have varying amenities and conditions. "The campsite is very nice except for a few issues... We almost felt like we were bothering the staff. When I'm paying over $1000 for a week here, I expect to be treated much better," warns Joshua N. from Sun Retreats Seashore Campsites & RV Resort.

Programming quality: Family activities differ significantly between locations. "This was my daughters and I first camping trip. The playground was great my daughter really enjoyed the scavenger hunt. The miniature golf course could have been maintained better, but it was so inexpensive I couldn't consider it an issue," notes Herbert from Mays Landing Resort.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection challenges: Many RV sites have accessibility issues. "The roadways are narrow and there isn't a lot of maneuvering room. We stayed in site 402a and it was a nightmare backing in and getting out of. We have a 42 ft 5th wheel but the website said it could accommodate the size," warns Stephanie H. from Big Timber Lake RV Camping Resort.

Tree interference: Trees can create maneuvering difficulties at numerous campsites. "Explore cape may and the boardwalk while in the area. Some sites are very tough and have some trees that occasionally make it so only a dead perfect backing could get you in," advises Michael J. from Sun Retreats Seashore Campsites.

Local services: RV services and supplies vary by location. "It's a gated park and nestled at the back of a quiet neighborhood. Walmart is 10-15 min. away. There is a grocery store, beer store, Walgreens, and a couple restaurants just 5-10 min. away," notes Laure D. about Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina.
