Wrong gps coordinates

This site is actually about an hour further up toward Mt Lemmon. Search “Whitetail campground” to find it. All the roads in this area are gated off

Great campground clean bathrooms !

While busy, this is a well ran and well managed campground. The hosts are diligent to touch base with everyone coming in (safety) and the campsites though somewhat close together, offer unique ways to capture some privacy. The mountain can get very cold and windy at night, so make sure you have a…

The Best Group Site On Mount Lemmon

This is mine and my family's favorite place to stay when we go to Mount Lemmon. You can park right near your campsite and this site is only 5 miles from Summerhaven(the closest town). It is also a very beautiful area with springs and creeks everywhere!

Large campground in Mt Lemmon

Spencer Canyon campground in Mt Lemmon is nestled under the pine trees and boasts a 15-20 degree drop in temperature from nearby Tucson. Bear boxes are provided as are vaulted toilets. I’ve seen trailers travel down the canyon, but I wouldn’t try it. The roads are steep and narrow. Perfect for tent…

Perfect tent camping spot

This sky island campground in Mt Lemmon is perfect for a quick weekend getaway from Tucson. The weather here is 10-15 degrees cooler than the city. This campground is small, with tent sites tucked away between pine trees. A vaulted bathroom is at the center of the parking lot.

Get there early and be rewarded

I don’t pay for camping too often but glad I did here. Just passing through on an AZ trip and decided to pay for a couple nights just to relax.

This CG is huge with 60+ sites (can’t remember exactly how many) however they do fill up quick prior to the weekend. It’s in a wonderful area off the…

Perfect for big groups

This campground boasts several group sites, complete with plenty of parking, large gazebos with multiple grills for your group gatherings, and tent pads scattered throughout. The tent pads are not close together, giving you the privacy you need to retreat to your tent but still close to the…

Beautiful Creek Certain Times of the Month

Open only during the late fall, winter, and early spring. Can get crowded. Nearby is the Molino creek which flows only immediately after heavy rainfall or snow.

Great place to get away from the crowds

Amazing time. Lots of mt. Lemmon is currently restricted due to covid but there was still plenty to do!

Head up to Summerhaven 3 miles up th road to get some gifts and food at the cookie cabin (also 5 stars). It gets pretty chilly around the fall especially at night so be prepared for that.…

Very pretty area

Camped here in late October of 2018. You basically turn onto E. Mount Bigelow Rd, drive past the UA Observatory and start looking for a place to camp. The sites are spread out with lots of space between. Fires were aloud at the time I was there and I think you would be able to have a pet on a…

Nice dispersed camping on Mt Lemmon

Just across Catalina highway from pay sites like Whitetail or Spencer Canyon, Bear Wallow offers dispersed camping for free. Pick from views to the south of Tucson, to the north and east, or camp along the creek. It’s accessible by Bear Wallow Rd or Mt Bigelow Rd from March 1 to Dec 1. Show up…

Basic and messy

I have stayed there multiple times, and every time that i have people bring their dogs to run in the woods. No leashes and no poop bags. i have had to clean up stranger's dog poop in front of my tent.

Serene Solitude...and horse poo

Hiking Through Saguaro National Park in the late Winter is now my favorite past time. You get the feel of Spring but the look of Summer. Between the higher elevation changes in scenery and the lack of people on trails, this is one of the best spots to hit up if you want to get away but don't have…

Camp on the Mountain

Spencer Canyon Campground is a first-come, first-serve 60+ site camp located 21.5 up Mt. Lemon. Spent a long weekend, beginning on Thursday. Benefitted from getting there early, because I got my choice from most of the sites and come Friday all of the sites became occupied. By Sunday afternoon…
