This free dispersed camping area sits along a two-mile sandy road with multiple pull-offs, accessible to RVs up to 42 feet though soft sand sections can trap larger rigs. The Bureau of Land Management maintains this site on BLM land, where campers can bring pets and enjoy campfires without reservations or fees.
Dense cholla cactus and saguaros line the camping areas, creating natural barriers between sites that spread far enough apart for privacy. Monte W. found the sites "well spread out and very clean" with excellent stargazing conditions under "very dark sky with lots of stars." Dog owners need extra caution navigating the abundant jumping cholla, and campers should check shoes before entering their RVs.
The area splits into two main sections accessed from Cattle Tank Road. The eastern route accommodates tents and smaller RVs along a narrower track that roughens after the first mile. Western sites handle larger RVs more easily with better road conditions. Cell service varies by carrier, with AT&T and Verizon users reporting 2-3 bars and streaming capability.
Nearby shooting activity generates semi-automatic gunfire that can continue until late evening and resume early morning, though the distance keeps noise levels moderate rather than overwhelming. Some sites show evidence of target practice with scattered shell casings. The location provides no water, restrooms, or other facilities, requiring pack-in, pack-out camping. Campers seeking additional options in the region can explore campgrounds just outside Marana.
Winter visitors may encounter snow despite mild arrival temperatures, while spring and fall offer the most comfortable conditions for exploring the surrounding desert landscape and its wildlife.
