Best Campgrounds near Wing, AL

Topsail is more like a rv resort. It is a state park & surprisingly it has sewer hookups. We come down here at least once a year. And have never had any complaints. There is no bad camping spot.

There is a potable water faucet and a two plug 30 amp electrical outlet at each site.

I was here for the snow fall. The electric hook up was a saving grace. Now this is in the flight path of Eglin AFB. The staff is excellent both friendly and helpful.

Checked in Friday 01/17 and extended my stay from 2 nights to 7 nights. I’m enjoying the solitude. I’m at a tent site, no WIFI. T Mobile is 4 bars.

Great spot! Cool shorter hiking trails to take you to lakes or the gulf, or as we call it Lake Florida now. For hammock campers the tent camping spots are okay for hammock camping. I made due but I was in spot 21 and there are no trees accessible enough to hang a hammock up how you would want, BUT they had a couple 4x4s in the ground so I used one of those and a tree, everything went up properly. It was windy, rainy and around 30° and I was extremely comfortable.

Fire pits are great, it looks like all spots have a picnic table.

All in all great spot. I’ll be back soon!

Keep in mind, this is a Preserve. Good trails, coastal dunes with lakes, fishing, paddling, beach, cabins, and tent camping including Glamping!

This is a great single loop 20 site campground right on the lake mostly rvers. Individual bathroom, shower rooms, clean, and nice. Half mile walk around the lake to the adjacent campground on the south side of the lake is a single loop 20 site or so campground.

As always we were running late. We called ahead and after proof of reservation, a few friendly questions, we were given a gate code. Florida parks is always on top of it! Never though I would feel it necessary to comment” the most astounding gravel driveway” Clean shower houses, neat and tidy park, slept like a baby.

I’m not sure if Geronimo ever visited this roadside RV depot, for which this and the road that you’ll have to navigate down to find this place are named for, but if he did, I am sure he would be happy to be somewhat removed from the crazy busy touristy town of Destin in favor of a plot of land that offers a bit of shade, respite from the sun as well as the noise and commotion of a Spring Break destination. Geronimo RV boasts about being a ‘hidden gem on the emerald coast,’ and if you are looking for a spot to park your oversized RV for the night, all the while being incredibly close to the pristine aqua green ebb and flow of slow moving Gulf coast waves that gently massage flawless white powder sand beaches here in a part of Florida where time seems to have stopped altogether, then Geronimo RV Resort might just be the spot for you.

Located just 3 miles from Destin, this family-friendly, pet-friendly and big-rig-friendly RV hangout is situated in Miramar Beach and just two short blocks to the sugar sand beaches that you came here for. This RV parking lot has just 34 slots, the majority of which are located on the interior and exterior of a decent size simple circular loop, with about 4-5 slots located nearer what looks to be like the main office (although it is not), along with a few slots placed in front of this same building that you’ll easily be able to spot as you drive in. For those wanting to store their RV or boat, there is also additional storage space at the front of the property and the southern side. You will discover that the actual main office is located just as you approach the circular loop and it will be immediately on your left as you turn left into the loop with a handful of places to park and check-in.

Amenities: level concrete large RV parking pads with patio, tree-shaded main RV parking loop, full hook-ups (30 / 50 electric amp, water (40-55 PSI) and sewage), free WiFI and Cable TV (70+ channels), 24 / 7 spartan clean bathrooms and showers, potable water and dump station, large recreation area for throwing the frisbee or taking the puppy for a walk, coin-operated laundr-O-mat as well as storage lots for boats, RVs and other vehicles.

Driving Directions: From Emerald Coast Pkwy: Turn onto Old Hwy 98, stoplight across from Silver Sands Premium Outlet and Chic-fil-A (Scenic Gulf Dr.). Follow Old 98 for approximately half a mile, and you will see Embassy Suites on your right. Turn right onto S. Geronimo St. Drive a few hundred feet and arrive at Geronimo RV Park on your left. Or from Hwy 98 turn on to S. Geronimo St, head South a quarter mile, then turn on to Arnett Lane where our sign is located.

Insider’s Tips: (1) One irritating element about Geronimo is that they will only allow you an RV+ another vehicle, but if you come packing a golf cart, motorcycle or even a boat, then they will charge you for two vehicles and make you park this in another spot (and charge you nightly for it), so think twice before you bring your entire caravan to this place; (2) For my tent-pitching bredren, there is ‘no luck at the Inn here’ as this is only an RV parking site, so head on over to nearby Henderson Beach State Park if you want to find a simply fantastic camping spot right near the Gulf; and (3) When you get tired of trying to fix a meal with the leftovers in your onboard mini-fridge and want to try out some local fare I HIGHLY recommend nearby Brotula’s for simply fantastic Dungeness, King and Snow Crab that you can wash it down with a local micro-brew or stunning glass of Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc.

Located in the sleepy hamlet of MaryEsther, which lies equidistant between Pensacola and Destin, not too far from this stunning stretch of the Gulf comprised of emerald aqua slowly lolloping ripples of waves that wet the pristine white powder sand beaches that you’ll be lucky to stroll down should you find yourself in this part of the Sunshine state, Grater RV Hideaway Cove is less the traditional RV depot and more of someone’s idea to turn a small plot of unused residential land into a fenced-in, maze-like RV resting spot.

So let me begin by saying that this micro-RV lot, which boasts just 9 slots, will not be for everyone, especially those that are looking for a pristine encounter with nature. Here, where you will be completely encased by 10-foot-tall wooden fences, which are for the most part, brand spanking new, with each site having some very decent space to spread out your camp. There are quaint touches throughout this place that attempts to convey a feeling of homeliness and familial welcoming, which somehow contrasts with all of the other signs you’ll encounter stating ‘private property’ or ‘you are under video surveillance’ from the few houses that are also encased inside this same wooden fenced-in residential enclave. In short, there’s a bit of a spooky element to this place, and dare I say (only because I'm now watching it for the second time now) giving off a bit of a 'LOST' vibe?  Jack, Kate, Sawyer and, most importantly, Hurley, can you help me?!

I’ll be honest, rather than 'LOST' this place reminds me a bit of the dystopian scenario that plays out in episode 3 of ‘The Last of Us,’ wherein Bill, brilliantly played by Nick Offerman, is a post-apocalyptic survivalist who, once the entire town has been evacuated by the government, builds a fence around his entire neighborhood and nearby shops, fortifying this doomsday oasis with electric fencing, video cameras, search lights and booby traps. All in all though, if you can get over the eeriness of this place, I’m sure it’s a wonderful, private experience for those who don’t mind the set up and location that they find themselves encased within.

Amenities: 360 degrees of 10’ tall wooden fencing, very level back-in sites with freshly laid gravel along with full hook-ups (20 / 30 / 50 amp electricity, water and sewage), pet friendly and, of course, security surveillance! There’s no onsite bathroom, shower facilities or even WiFi (why would one need these things in an apocalypse?).

Insider’s tips? (1) This is certainly not a destination, and more of an option for those that simply need to park their RV somewhere for the night, unless that is, you really don’t mind the desolate environment of a ‘fenced-in-backyard’ kind of vibe; (2) As you are located just 3-4 blocks away from the main 4-line highway 98 here, you really are located close to prime beach heads, where you can either cross directly south of the highway to The Narrows or move further west to Upper Pritchard Long Point, both of which make perfect places to launch paddleboards and kayaks or go for a day of fly fishing; (3) When you get tired of trying to conjure up something interesting for your next meal, you will want to say ‘Mahalo’ later after heading on over to Kalai’s Hawaiian Kitchen for some amazing Kalua Pork, BBQ Chicken or Garlic Shrimp that really will make you feel like ‘Ohana’; and (4) If you’re traveling with kiddos, head on over to Emerald Coast Science Center for interactive, hands-on exhibits featuring biology, colors, vehicles and the human body.
