Kayakers and anglers find direct access to the Santa Rosa Sound from The Hideaway Retreat's 371 feet of private beach. This forested campground sits along Highway 98 in Navarre, where magnolia and oak trees create natural shade between sites rather than the typical parking lot layout.
Each of the 60 sites winds around existing trees, creating varied layouts and privacy levels. Joy K. notes that "each site is unique, tucked among the many trees." RVs up to 50 feet can access full hookups, though tight spaces and low-hanging branches require careful maneuvering. Premium waterfront sites #37, #45, #46, and #47 face the sound directly. Ten designated tent sites accommodate smaller rigs, while overflow areas near the entrance provide additional space during busy periods.
The sound-side location offers calm, shallow water suitable for children and paddling. Hurricane Sally damaged the fishing pier, which remains under repair, but the reinforced seawall and beach restoration continue. Kayaks and paddleboards rent for $35 per half day. A community fire pit anchored by Adirondack chairs provides evening gathering space, complemented by cornhole, volleyball, and ping pong equipment.
Highway 98 generates consistent road noise, particularly noticeable in sites closest to the entrance. Dwight L. confirms "the road noise from Hwy 98 can be bothersome at times." Bathhouses show their age but maintain cleanliness, with the women's facility recently renovated. The laundry facility features new washers and dryers at $4.50 per load. Cell coverage runs strong on major carriers.
Sites away from the highway offer quieter stays, while those seeking Gulf beaches can explore Navarre Beach Camping Resort for white sand access.
