The Florida Forest Service will close all campgrounds and recreation areas on State Forests if the county where the State Forest is located is placed under a Tropical Storm or Hurricane WARNING by the National Weather Service. Reservations will be automatically refunded for closures related to tropical weather.
Krul Recreation Area in Blackwater River State Forest is near Milton, FL. The terrain features flat, forested areas with sandy soil. Temperatures range from 40°F in winter to 90°F in summer. Nearby attractions include Blackwater River for canoeing and hiking trails within the state forest.
Description
Krul Campground is located within the Krul Recreation Area, in the Blackwater River State Forest (Santa Rosa County), about 1-hour northeast of Pensacola, FL. This campground is located on a 6.5-acre lake and has the following facilities: campsites with electricity and water (potable) for recreational vehicles or tents, dump station, restrooms and showers, swimming dock and pier. Recreational activities featured here are: swimming, picnicking, hiking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, nature study and photography. Don't miss the Sweetwater Hiking Trail that starts at the Krul parking lot and runs 1.3 miles to Bear Lake. The first half mile of trail is a handicapped accessible boardwalk with a suspension bridge over Sweetwater Creek. A gristmill is located along the boardwalk.
Pets are not allowed at this facility. Krul lake allows for swimming but not fishing. If a camper is incorrectly set up on your reserved campsite advise the Campground Host. If the Campground Host is not on site, courteously advise the camper that you have a reservation. Please have your reservation with you on your electronic device, or have a printed copy, or have your reservation number. Restrooms with showers are available. Krul Lake campground has electric sites available for recreational vehicles or tents. Alcohol is prohibited. Vehicles pulling a camper must be included in the total length of the unit when selecting sites. Vehicle with camper attached must fit completely in the site and not extend into the campground road.
Swimming rules at Krul:
- Drowning can easily occur in deep water
- Children must be accompanied by adults who diligently watch their children's activities in or near the water.
- Water is over the head of adults in many places inside the roped swimming area and throughout the lake.
- Swim at your own risk.
- Life vests save lives.
- When lightning, get out of water and seek shelter.
- No swimming outside roped areas.
- No swimming after dark.
- No diving in shallow areas.
- No horseplay
- No boats, canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, large inflatables, or large floating mats in swimming area to protect the safety of others. One-person floats only. Krul Lake Recreation Area and its vicinity is in a non-hunting zone. During the main hunting season from Thanksgiving to mid-February, it is recommended to wear fluorescent orange when traveling on trails away from Krul.

From Interstate 10 take Exit 22. Turn north on Avalon Boulevard and travel to Highway 90. Turn right onto at Highway 90 and travel to Highway 87 also called Stewart Street at the Burger King restaurant. Turn left. Travel .8 miles to the Milton High School and turn to the right onto Highway 191 also called Munson Highway. Continue 19.5 miles miles until you reach Highway 4. Turn to the right onto Highway 4 and travel .7 miles to the Krul sign. Follow the entrance road into the facility. Turn left before entering the day use area parking lot.
