4 Highly Recommended Campgrounds in the North
These northern campgrounds are beautiful places to get cozy by a campfire. The only question now — which one will you visit first?
Wayfarers State Park, MT
Wayfarers State Park is a great jumping off point for getting into Glacier National Park or checking out Flathead Lake and Big Fork. Reviewers report there are great rocks on the lake for relaxing or jumping off. The day use area can get a little crowded, but dense vegetation keeps the campground quiet.
Gros Ventre, WY
Gros Ventre is a great location for exploring the southern half of Grand Teton National Park. It’s also a five minute drive from the often photographed Mormon Row, which holds the best view of the Tetons from anywhere. The campground is large, over 300 sites, but the sites are relatively small, giving ample space between campers.
Garver Mountain Lookout Rental, MT
Are you and a few friends looking for a unique, adventurous experience? Rent out the Garver Mountain Lookout, a 40-foot tower high above the Kootenai National Forest built in 1963 for detecting forest fires. It will sleep up to four people, and there is no electricity and limited water sources nearby. It has basic amenities: two twin beds with four mattresses, a wood stove, table and chairs. Countless outdoor adventures lie at your doorstep.
Farragut State Park, ID
Farragut State Park in northern Idaho is set on the shore of a beautiful lake ringed with mountains and a full lineup of outdoor activities. The campground itself has a variety of options from tent and RV sites to cabins and even equestrian friendly campsites. Wildlife sightings from whistle pigs to howling coyotes are common here.
