Great spot, less crowded
This campground is well maintained and a beautiful park within the woods. Great for hiking and kayaking/canoeing is near by.
Stayed middle of the week found local firewood from farms nearby. Also a creamery is a short drive from camp.
We stayed at Frontenac the first weekend of May, and lucked out with some really incredible weather! The park offers a number of really nice hiking trails along the bluffs of Lake Pepin, which we took full advantage of. There were a few boats on the water , which looked so appealing on our hot day…

Friendly owners. Well maintained grounds. Mostly seasonal sites. Nice beach across the road. Would stay here again! Hit Chippewa Valley Growers greenhouse in Altoona. Amazing if your into plants!
Very affordable, a lot of space between sites so you feel like you have some privacy. A beautiful hiking trail. Definitely bring some bug spray for the mosquitos
This was an interesting state park, I’m glad we came here for a day trip instead of booking anything for the nicer months. There is basically one trail that goes along the river between the two campgrounds, and that appears to be it.
Most people were there for ice fishing at this time of year,…
This campground is small and quaint...plenty of space without being too close to your neighbors. Super easy to social distance here.
We visited in winter (February) and while there was snow on the ground, the spaces were kept plowed with easy access to the electric boxes. We were in a…

We stayed here last summer and it’s a great place to explore the region near the Mississippi River. Lots of amazing views, interactive signs and information that was perfect for our 4 year old. Close to the river and the town which was beautiful also!
We stayed here for one night in August 2020 en route to black hills. Nice site(number 80), good shade and privacy between sites. Some mosquitos in evening.
Perfect for a quick night away from the twin cities. Several small hikes to the bluffs right from the campground loop. Solid campground all around.
This is a great place to camp. We have been back a few times. They have sites on the lake and off. If you can get a site on the water I highly recommend. There is a trail between the site and the water but still is great. The bathrooms were always nice and clean with hot showers. Not much for…

This is my experience at Shades. We were seasonal campers for 4 years. We should've listened to the warnings and read the reviews beforehand. Pros:(before covid) The activities for the kids, Tubbing, The pond. Some of the the fellow campers are amazing and became a sort of family. It has as very…
Site 20 has an absolutely outstanding view of Lake Pepin and fall colors. The first and second loops have a mix of tent sites and electric sites, but it was quiet and peaceful. The electric sites seem small, so big rigs are deterred from setting up shop(and generators). The third and fourth loops…

We stayed at Minneiska campground since Cedar Hills is under construction this year. It's a newer campground so the vegetation hasn't grown in fully yet - your neighbors are visible but there's good distance between sites so it wasn't a problem at all. The grounds themselves are really well-kept…
