Not my type of camping

We went here as a last minute decision. We were placed in the middle of the seasonal crowd who were loud. Music was playing all day loud enough for half the campground to hear. When the music went up so did their conversations. I go for peace and quiet. If I wanted to be at a concert. I would have gone to a concert. Showers seemed ok but some areas to me seemed kinda junky.

Weekend waterfront getaway

This campground is a home away from home. We found this campground through this app, and was very happy with our stay. We had one of the primitive sites on the river front, and it was huge! Highly recommend site 152 if you have some camping games you like to play. This campground always has something to do. Whether it’s a movie night, live music, food trucks, or kayak rentals, there’s always something. There is a playground for kids, and clean bathrooms. There are also porta-potty’s around the campground that are clean and very convenient. The camp staff was absolutely amazing. We ran into some issues car issues on the last day, so we had to stay an extra night. The staff offered to help us out, they gave us a helping hand and offered to run into town for food for us. The manager was also awesome in this situation. The staff were very supportive and felt like a family in this situation. If you are looking for a family friendly campground, with staff that treats you like family- this is the place for you.

Nice camp ground

We stayed one night on an extended journey. Great people live music and firewood delivered to our site. Clean showers perfect temperature and good pressure. Latches on the shower doors would have eared them five stars

Beautiful river front campground

Spacious campsites on the Mississippi River. Nice wooded area allows for shade. Clean bath house and convenient outdoor bathroom buildings around the grounds. The road along the river is narrow making it hard to back your camper into the riverfront sites if you have neighbors. Water /electric sites available reasonably priced. Dump station on site included in rate. Concerts and food trucks available on many weekends weather permitting.

Beautiful river views

My husband and I stayed here because we traded our old camper for a different model nearby in Wisconsin and we thought this looked like a good place to test it out for the first time. Thankfully we had a somewhat secluded spot near the river, but if we had been closer to the front I don’t think I would have enjoyed camping here. It’s very crowded and there were what seemed to be a lot of seasonal pass type campers set up. It was noisy and just had so much constant activity. This isn’t a place for a peaceful relaxing get away. The bathrooms in the shower house were dirty when I used them late in the day, but the next morning were cleaned. The shower house was constantly busy as well. The gift shop/office is very cute and the staff was very friendly! If you stay I recommend sites 60 and 61.

River view

It is a nice clean quiet campground. Trails and dog park close were nice. It could have been not as nice if it was full. Sites are good and a little ways apart.

Nice for RV Camping

If you are a tent camper, I would suggest going to local nearby state parks vs. this campground. Nice for a quick weekend away in an RV. On the Mississippi River and close to town. Across the street from a dog park so if you bring your fur-friend with, there is a nice enclosed area for them to run while being supervised.

Great introductory campground

Prairie Island has all of you basic amenities without being too far from town. This campground isn’t for everybody -- if you’re looking for extreme adventure and wilderness, this is not the place for you. If you’re interested in getting into camping and not investing the money into all the gear or having direct river access, this is the place for you! They seriously rent it all. Paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and dutch ovens. The camp store sells all of the basics and fishing supplies. The shower house has flush toilets and pit toilets are located throughout the campground.

Personally, this campground is not the type that I like to stay at but it is really great for the type that wants to get into camping or the camper trailer type. Unfortunately, not enough activities to do besides boating on the river.

Fun close to home

This is a great local campground right on the river and a great stay for gorgeous Winona, MN. Management is helpful and friendly. The regular patrons know how to have a good time but keep it quiet when necessary too.

Camper Camping 5 Stars?

I rated this campground 2 stars based on they type of camping that I like to do. If you like to feel secluded in the wilderness when camping then avoid this place at all costs. If you are looking for a place park your camper with a nice view and plenty of distractions for your kids then this could be the perfect place. We went camping with my girlfriend's family and they loved it.

The campground has very nice views of the Mississippi River and the surrounding bluffs. The lot size for campers are big enough that you aren't stacked on top of your neighbor but there aren't a lot of trees. Plenty of playground equipment and some organized activities for children. There was a nice beach. We rented canoes and paddled around the river (probably my favorite part of the weekend.) There was a rummage sale the weekend we went (there are permanent residents there) which some members of my camping party loved. Very clean bathroom building with free showers.

Personally I was going to give it 1 star but I bumped it up because of the beach and some of the surrounding activities. But that being said my girlfriend's mother would have given it 5 stars so it really depends on your idea of what an ideal camping experience is. The campground had its own Wifi covering the whole place which really sums it up pretty well.
