Campgrounds near New London, Wisconsin provide a range of camping experiences along the Wolf River and surrounding lakes. Wolf River Campgrounds sits directly in New London, offering tent and RV sites with full hookups, while Fremont RV Campground (Jellystone Park) is located 15 miles southwest along the Wolf River in Fremont. Most campgrounds in the New London area operate seasonally, typically from April through October, closing during Wisconsin's harsh winter months. Electric and water hookups are standard at most locations, while some offer full-hookup sites with sewer connections. Reservation requirements vary by campground, with most allowing advance bookings during peak summer months. The Wolf River serves as a central recreation feature, providing opportunities for tubing, kayaking, and fishing. Sites along the water tend to be smaller and fill quickly, especially on holiday weekends. A visitor noted, "Very fun but not secluded, very small sites, especially along the river. The river is fantastic for tubing and kayaking with your family."

The mixed-use campgrounds throughout the region cater to different camping preferences and experiences. Family-oriented facilities like Jellystone Park feature swimming pools, organized activities, and amenities designed for children, though these come at a higher price point. Several campers mentioned the balance between amenities and cost as a consideration when choosing where to stay. "This is a small campground. It offers RV pull-through sites with electric and water. Along with a variety of other type of sites. It is very clean and well run," wrote one camper about Blue Top Resort & Campground. For those seeking a more social atmosphere, Wolf River Campgrounds offers a lively environment popular with tubers and kayakers, while more secluded options can be found at state parks slightly further from New London, such as Hartman Creek State Park near Waupaca, which provides a more natural setting with fewer amenities but greater privacy between sites.

    Camp Shin-Go-Beek

A lovely place to relax - Lower Bluff

This campsite was great! Incredibly peaceful with a ton of beautiful birds singing throughout the day, relatively private (even with fellow campers in the area), and a short walk to the private beach at the lake. It’s a semi-primitive with pit toilets and a potable water spigot. Ian was a great host and even checked on us to offer shelter in the admin building before a storm rolled through. We loved this spot so much, we went back the following summer, and it was just as relaxing. Being able to swim and float in the lake is an added bonus.

    Brown County Reforestation Campground

    Road to Mackinac

Only spent 1 night but this is a beautiful campground. LOTS of birds (that's our thing!), forested, so many trails for hiking and mountain biking. Bathrooms and showers were clean, site was spacious. Hookups are available but we chose dry camping.

    On The Rocks Family Kampground

    Do not recommend

Check yourself in and don’t expect to be welcomed by staff. Restrooms are filthy. Office, restaurant and bar only open Thursday through Saturday. When we messaged to ask when the restrooms will be cleaned, it took 2 days and a phone call to respond. Of you like customer service and clean facilities, this is not for you. There are more campgrounds to choose from in the area.

    Fremont RV Campground

    Overpriced

We stayed here for a night to visit Union Farm Cheese Factory. The campground was expensive at 80$ for water and electric only on a dirt pull through. The bathroom weren’t very clean either. Lots of full timers. The cheese factory was worth the stop and a great experience but this campground wasn’t the best for the price.

    Bay Shore Park

    Clean and Quiet

Everything was very clean and even with the campground full it was nice and quiet. The spots are beautiful and shaded. Rain does cause many of the spots to flood.

Guide to New London

New London camping areas sit within Wisconsin's Fox River Valley, where spring-fed lakes connect to the Wolf River system. Dispersed camping isn't permitted in this region, but several established campgrounds offer sites within 20 miles of New London. The camping season typically runs April through October with high humidity during summer months and temperatures ranging 70-85°F during peak camping season.

What to Do

Kayaking and water sports: Wolf River Campgrounds provides direct river access for popular tubing and kayaking excursions. "Very fun but not secluded, very small sites, especially along the river. The river is fantastic for tubing and kayaking with your family," notes one visitor. Water activities here focus on gentle floats rather than whitewater sections.

Hiking trails: Hartman Creek State Park Campground features extensive hiking networks beyond the campground area. "There is ample hiking opportunities in the area, some you can walk to from the campground, some requires a small amount of driving," shares a camper. The park connects to segments of the Ice Age Trail for longer day hikes.

Fishing opportunities: High Cliff State Park Campground offers fishing access on Lake Winnebago. "Allen Lake has a fishing pier that the kids loved fishing from. Good catches early in the morning!" reports a visitor. Most area lakes allow fishing without special permits beyond Wisconsin fishing licenses.

What Campers Like

Spacious sites: Calumet County Park receives consistent praise for roomy campsites. "Excellent county campground with some of the largest sites we've come across. Things we look for in a campground: space from neighbors (because of our barky dogs), shade (especially when it's 90 degrees!) and quiet. This park checked all the boxes!" wrote one camper.

Clean facilities: S'Mores Campground maintains well-kept amenities. "Amazing cabins, amazing setup, they all have picnic tables and benches on porch. Cabin had three beds, fridge, air conditioner, two windows, plenty of plugs in... huge extremely clean pool, bathrooms, showers. Both of which were amazing!" notes a visitor.

Quiet atmosphere: Many campgrounds in the New London area maintain noise control policies. "It was a great location, enough trees for kids to hang hammocks for a little relaxation... We loved the quietness at night. Not entirely sure, but I believe there is a quiet policy after 10pm," reports a camper at one local park.

What You Should Know

Site selection strategies: At Wolf River Campgrounds, waterfront sites have specific limitations. "Very fun but not secluded, very small sites, especially along the river," reports a camper. Request interior sites for more space and privacy.

Reservation timelines: The best places to camp near New London, Wisconsin fill quickly during summer weekends. Most campgrounds open reservations 11 months in advance for peak season dates, with holiday weekends booking within minutes of availability.

Weather considerations: Wolf River Campgrounds remains susceptible to river fluctuations. "We had an amazing time at Wolf River Trips and Campground! From start to finish, the entire experience was smooth and enjoyable," notes a camper, though water levels can change after heavy rains.

Seasonal operations: Most New London area campgrounds close from November through March due to freezing temperatures. "Great spot, lots of trails, and the bathrooms were clean. Only gripe is the uncertain schedule they have for turning on water for the season. First week or two of May is a safe bet, but no promises," shares a visitor about one park's utilities.

Tips for Camping with Families

Kid-friendly amenities: Fremont RV Campground specializes in family activities. "Tons of activities for kids and adults. Water parks, mini golf, playgrounds, arcade, train rides. During Father's Day weekend they have a car show. All around a good time," reports one visitor with children.

Budget considerations: While Jellystone Parks offer extensive amenities, they come at higher prices. "Yes there are lots of things to do to keep the kids busy and the sites are great, but... it is expensive!!" notes a visitor, with rates often 30-50% higher than state parks in the area.

Wildlife viewing: Several campgrounds offer opportunities for nature observation. "Everything was great overall, but most of all my son was pretty enamored by all of the awesome wildlife we saw on the strip. Might've been the time of year but it was just beautiful," shares a camper at Jellystone Park.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Most campgrounds near New London offer partial hookups, with water and electric standard. "We stayed here for 30 days, this campground has full hookups, a laundry, shower house, bathrooms, a restaurant/bar, fire rings, and picnic tables. Sites are a responsible size," reports an RVer about Wolf River Campgrounds.

Site levelness: Many camping areas feature relatively flat sites requiring minimal leveling. "A great place for kids, very clean and friendly staff, easy check in, allot of sites are available and 90 percent are level and good size, will go again," notes a camper at Jellystone Park.

Campground accessibility: Hickory Oaks Campground provides camping near urban amenities. "Best deal in Oshkosh. Other than a few lazy campers not cleaning up their site this place is clean, quiet, and affordable," writes a visitor about this option for RVers seeking proximity to cities.
