  Rivers Edge Campground

  Lovely little spot

  Family camping trip and we tagged along in our tent. We’ve been priced out of our area so pleased to find this hidden gem. A small, comfortable, family run campground that has enough amenities to keep the littles entertained and adults relaxing. We stayed in the tent area, which we had all to ourselves. Our site was on the river and able to pull our motorcycles right up. I do think if the tent area is full it will feel crowded. There’s a small bathroom attached to back of camp store nearby. Then the larger bathhouse down the way. The RV sites were flat, clean, in an open area. We will, for sure, be back.

  Camp Roosevelt

  Great overnight spot!

  Camped here as a plan B, but it was still a great time. The lookout over the mountain about 5min drive from the campground was breathtaking. As far as camp went, it is a bare bones site with two port a potties (well maintained) and a couple water spouts that didn’t work. The sites are right next to a road, so expect some noise all night. Maybe because of rains there were flying bugs everywhere. Sites were spacious and level, no large rocks. Fire pits were very large and have grates for cooking. First CCC site ever made so there is some cool history if you’re into that.

  Hone Quarry

  Great for mid week

  If you live in Harrisonburg, Bridgwater and any surrounding area, this place is amazing. Fair warning, this place is DARK DARK, but your campers, so. The campsites are clean, $5 a night will get you a place to stay. Payment box upfront. There’s a pond up the road to fish.

  Brooklyn Heights Riverfront Campground

  Primitive plus.

  That's the best way to describe this park. It has the primitive feel, campsites are in the natural woods as opposed to a pristine tent pad. I love how open and natural it feels.

  However, the plus is that there are lots of little amentities, a coffee pavilion, wood to buy, portapots, and an incredibly kind "staff." I'm mobility impaired and it was just my dog and I. The guys were super helpful bringing the wheelbarrow of wood to me, which would have been difficult for me.

  The river is beautiful, but you do have to go down a bit of an incline to get there. On the beach there are rafts, paddleboats, chairs, and across the river there is a ladder to climb up on the rocks.

  The property was clean and quiet other than the occasional diesel truck going down the road.

  Dispersed camping at Mower Basin

  Beautiful views

  Very quiet, beautiful views, amazing drive from VA. Multiple campsites and they all have beautiful views. I have T-Mobile and had signal only by the first campsite for some reason. I had no signal for almost two hours heading towards VA.

  Endless Caverns RV Resort & Cottages

  Beautiful Resort

  The resort is beautiful. Pulling up and checking in, a host takes you to your site. Sites are spacious and there's lots to do! We loved our site because we are the only one on the right side of the hill. I did not get any info email though which I had to contact about. Other than that, everything was great. Drove around the campground to see which other sites I would like to try and get! I def would return.

  Bennie’s Beach Campground

  Cool spot by the creek

  Bennies has a cool spot by the creek for tent camping.  I was the only one there - after having driven through the aging RV neighborhood.  Check-in was mystical, but finally reached the groundskeeper by phone and left money in a mailbox.  "$40 cash money..."  Way overpriced considering the unsanitary (gross) showers and restrooms.  I think I felt cleaner before the shower.  If you don't need a shower and don't mind dropping $40 for a place to pitch your tent then Bennies may be for you.

  Wolf Gap

  Wonderful scenic getaway

  Drove in on a very good road for 15 miles. Camp road and each of the 9 sites have a paved pad to park a short trailer or car.

  Each camp site had a slights had a parking pad at road level with the rest of the site 3 to 5 feet lower in elevation, giving each site a two tiered feel.

  The site does offer a bear-proof garbage can next to the pit toilet.

  Each site has a fire ring, a compacted sand platform for a tent and a picnic table.

  Brandywine Lake Campground — Shenandoah Wildlife Management Area

  Drive on up to site!

  Clean, comfortable campground with spacious sites. Some of the sites are very private, others are a little less. Some have bear boxes and some are a lot closer to bath house than others. There is a large overflow lot available and set up for campers. However, we went on a Monday night and only shared the campground with 4 other groups of campers. Hosts are on site and both friendly and informative. Hiking trails nearby and some start at campground. Lake is low but still good for swimming or floating. We had a very peaceful night, even with the rain. Recommend!

  Harrisonburg - Shenandoah Valley KOA

  KOA Newbie

  This was our first KOA experience. I liked the pool, camp shop, and proximity to Massanutten water park. I also liked the size of site.

  My wife didn’t care for the lack of grass (mostly gravel) or the guy who took us to site that worked there talking over her when she was helping me back in.

  Most people know this but if a couple is backing in just let them figure it out.

  Other than price and backing in annoyance, I thought it was good place and would go back.

  Creekside Campground

  Glad we stayed here

  We were camping with our rooftop tent and spent two nights here. The campground was nicer than anticipated. We had a large grass space with water and power on the edge of a beautiful creek and enjoyed the sounds of it both nights. There were a variety of birds who frequented the stream and were fun to watch. The bath house was close by with two flush toilets and one shower, all of which were clean. The one staff person we talked with on several occasions was very friendly and welcoming. We would stay here again if we are ever back in the area.

  Shenandoah Valley Campground

  Nice place to stay

  We spent 2 weeks at SVC while our trunk was in the shop(our travel trailer got towed there- highly recommend Good Sam Roadside policy). Everyone on staff was accomodating, helpful and friendly. Very nice campground ammenities- stocked fishing pond, big swimming pool, and really nice creek for tubing with waterfall to cool down on the hotter days, horseshoes, mini golf and more. The biggest negative is lack of cell service/internet. Luckily it's a short drive to get service. Weekends were packed(esp. Memorial Day), but much quieter during the week. Many sites are tight and no walking paths between rows so people regularly walk through occupied sites when it's crowded. Smaller negatives- some washer/dryers out of order and litter left by campers wasn't picked up. Overall, a nice place to stay.

  Audra State Park Campground

  Beautiful campsites

  It's a curvy small road to get there but it's well worth the drive. Beautiful campsites,some right on the river. Access to water that is icy cold but definitely fun to play in. The camp store is well stocked and the employees are friendly.

  Amazing spot on north fork Shenandoah

  We were the only campers on a giant spot right on the river. The grounds are well maintained and stunning. Water is crystal clear and everyone is respectful

  Great location for Cass RR or start or end of the greenbrier river rail trail. Privately owned. Grassy sites, “mostly “ . We camped in our Van. 110/30 amp service at most sites. Many seasonal rental spaces. “Simple “ plywood shower and toilet house. (Mens side not so clean) hot water shower. $30/night with or without electricity. Tight sites, we camped mid week before the Memorial Day holiday.

  Hi we are 2 Ricans 🇵🇷 traveling with our dog 🐶 stood in site#8 with a travel trailer no one could believe we did it but we did it's right by the trail theirs a fire pit and a picnick table for your convenience the only thing that was weird was this bird 🕊️ sounding off like a 🐓 at 8:30 pm and 4:30 am theirs a spigot down the road before you get to the campsite on the left hand side about a mile before you get their otherwise thank you guys for having us here what a amazing beautiful Forrest my wife got to do some writing so it worked out perfect very peaceful quiet no complaints.   Camp sights are close together but bathroom are close to all. You fill out a card completely free camping you van stay 14 days out of a 30 day time period. Picnic table at camp 6 which I think is the best!

  Great spot

  No cell service, but beautiful and fun place for swimming, hiking, and mountain biking. Hot showers!

  Great for kids

  I mostly come here for Red Wing Roots, but the pool and playground make it an excellent spot to travel with kiddos! Very little cell reception.

  Revelle’s River Resort

  Beautiful Location

  My family and I liked this campground a lot. We had a camp site that was right against the river with full hookups. This seemed to be a well laid out campground with sites for weekenders in maybe the best location right along the river and the seasonal campers spread out around. The camp store was nice with everything you need, and the staff and owners were friendly as well. We were there for a long weekend and all agreed we would go back.

  Shenandoah Valley Campground

  When it was the KOA, it was great....now, meh

  We used to love this place.  I'm not a huge endorser of conglomerates, however this is an instant that I wish the people that own this campground would take a page out of their book.  I'd almost swear they added more sites.  We were in a teardrop camper and we were practically on top of our neighbors.  The pluses here are there is a falls that you can walk to and wade out to.  Always fun!  You can rent an inner tube and float down the river.  There are cute bunnies on the property.  The minuses-we found the bathhouses not so great, the pool when we were there wasn't in good shape and after that, we didn't even bother with the hot tubs.  There is a lot to do in the area, but having said that, it's not worth the money for another visit.  It's sad because we really loved this place in the 90's.  Luckily, lots of breweries, wineries, food and neat bars around to visit!

  Blackwater Falls State Park Campground

  Campsites are just the right size. Very level and nicely done. Sites have electric hookup a picnic table and a fire ring. Wood is available for purchase at the office when you come In. Bathhouse is located in the center of the campsites

  Didn't Feel Safe as a Solo Female

  I stopped here on my last night of a 30 day RT trek from RI to CA.  It is a USFS campground above I-81 that straddles the VA/WV line. The drive is back-woodsy and populated in a rural way (homes on the road).  Once you hit the steeper climb, there are some switchbacks and narrow areas that would not be at all fun in an RV.  The campground itself is in a bit of disrepair although the tent pads looked fine.  Being on a hill, most of them are terraced.  The rock steps to them seemed in good shape.  It was difficult to find level parking though, if you want to sleep in your vehicle.  

  After finding a spot, I moseyed over to the check in board and read about some of the people staying there (you leave a card with your information, and how long you are staying).  One of the cards indicated that the man who wrote it was perhaps a little "off" as he was thankful that "the noise police left today." Hmmmm.  I looked at the rest.  All of them were staying for 30 days. I saw one young man getting in his truck . . but I didn't see anyone else.  It was very quiet. 

  I noted that there was one narrow loop and lots of trees in the way of any off-road egress. It seemed to me that I could easily be blocked into my campsite. As a small solo female, I decided to play it safe and went back down the hill and found the Elizabeth Furnace Family Campground on the other side of 81, which was perfect. 

  One other note:  the USFS had put a note on the board indicating that they were in the process of initiating a charge a $14 fee to stay at the CG to raise money for maintenance purposes.  They were taking public comments.

  Right on Shavers Fork of the Cheat River. Nice small campground made up of mostly seasonal campers. Close to Elkins.
