COE Philpott Lake Goose Point Park

      Wonderful ArmyCOE Campground

One of my all time favorite campgrounds. Stunning water front sites if you're lucky enough to be able to book one. Stayed on top of hill one year, moved to waterfront after they had a couple of cancellations/no-shows. Close to Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) and not far from Martinsville Va.

      Sweetwater RV Park

      Great location at SML

Really well thought out campground for RV. Plenty of pull through and back in sites. Level sites, utilities are well placed and good height. Well maintained…you can tell staff takes pride in campground. Multiple dog parks….so convenient so you have one close to your area. Lots of recreation, great pickle ball area and pool. Laundry is honor system per load …pay in office.

      Fancy Gap-Blue Ridge Parkway KOA

      Nice Place, hard to navigate

We stayed here for vacation last year. There’s a nice dog park, and the facilities are clean. My only negative was that they had us camp up on the top of the hill and it was difficult to navigate back down, with some very sharp turns for our fifth wheel. They seemed to have some nice amenities, and the staff was very friendly.

      Love's RV Hookup-Elliston VA 574

If you must stop, truck stop

I really like what loves is providing RVs. Groceries, gas, Arby’s, private showers, dog park and full hookups for a reasonable price. I’m a single female in a van, I wasn’t about to test out the private showers, but they have a great app to order food reserve your space and reserve a shower. Noise from road and trucks, but that’s to be expected - it’s a truck stop not a state park. I would stop here again if I needed a place to hook up, dump, and fill my propane.

      Fancy Gap-Blue Ridge Parkway KOA

      FANTASTIC!

I typically steer clear of KOA's because most of the sites are super close together. This KOA is different! There is a row towards the front that are pretty close together, but I think they use those for one-nighters. We were in a tent and loved our spot. The staff was UNBELIEVABLY awesome and nice. They have a pool, a pond, a playground, a dog park, and a great camp store. The bathrooms and laundry room are exceptionally clean. If you order ice or firewood, they bring it to your site. They also have food you can order and they will bring it to your site. I am sure there are many things I am forgetting, but this is a must stay and we will be back.

      Salthouse Branch Campground

      Great place!!

Great spot for tent camping! Loved the hillside spots bc of all the trees and the multiple levels that the spots are on. They are all built out and flat. Bathrooms are clean and campground was quiet. I had issues finding out if pets were allowed... they are! My dog and I had an awesome time and we will be back for sure.

      Lake Ridge RV Resort

      Very satisfied!

I stayed at Lake Ridge RV Resort for quite a while. Great place to spend the evenings after work. Pond and surrounding area are very well maintained. Staff are friendly and shower houses were kept clean even in off season. Pet friendly; just got to scoop the poop!

      Mayberry Campground

      Big Rig Friendly

This campground is probably 90% big rigs. It’s a huge campground with 2 lakes, playground, RV store and shelter houses. There is only one shower house with one shower and two toilets on each side. Pet friendly on leash. Close to Mount Airy for those over 60 who want a trip down Memory Lane.

      Willville Motorcycle Camp

      An absolutely favorite place

Always a great time here! Just less than a mile west of the Blue Ridge Parkway on US 58 Business, Willville is THE motorcycle camping slot for me in Virginia.

thwres a community fire ring where Will has a fire most nights. There are no reservations except for either the one cabin or the bunkhouse, and there're no designated spots. However, there are great places with shade or in the open, ample grass, and picnic tables aplenty.

The bathhouse at at the top of the hill is quite clean. There's a pavilion for group events or just to hang out.

All in all, a favorite place just for motorcycles.

pets aren't allowed as far as I can tell. There are water spigots scattered athoughout along with electrical stanchions...just not at every site.

    Guide to Martinsville

Philpott Lake's campgrounds offer a range of pet-friendly options for campers near Martinsville, Virginia. Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains at approximately 800 feet elevation, this area experiences mild springs and falls with summer temperatures typically ranging from 75-90°F. The region receives about 44 inches of rainfall annually, making for lush surroundings but occasional camping challenges during wet periods.

    What to do

Boating access points: Goose Point Park provides excellent facilities for water enthusiasts. "There is a nice swimming area, boat ramp and dock in the loop. There is also a second shower house located here," notes Glenn F. about the amenities at Goose Point.

Hunting for fairy stones: At Fairy Stone State Park, visitors can search for the unique cross-shaped minerals. "We learned about the mysterious 'Fairy Stones' and went to the hunt site to see for ourselves. Sure enough - we found several fairy stones and the kids were very happy!" shares Kirsten J., who visited with her family.

Fishing opportunities: Philpott Lake supports diverse fish species including bass, catfish, and crappie. "It is a beautiful lake with good fishing," reports Denise about Horseshoe Point, adding that the campground has "2 swimming areas that are roped off, with life jackets provided."

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Many dog friendly campgrounds near Martinsville maintain excellent standards. "Bathrooms are clean and what you'd expect a campground bathroom to be," Lauren L. mentions about her stay at Goose Point, adding that they "quickly got port-a-potties" when power issues temporarily closed the main facilities.

Lake views: Salthouse Branch Campground offers premium waterfront sites. "We always enjoy staying at Corp campgrounds when we travel. The sites are consistently level, spacious, with reliable facilities... And you can always count on a pristine body of water for camping and kayaking," writes Patrice after their mid-week stay.

Quiet atmosphere: The peaceful setting attracts many visitors. "This is a quiet place way back in the mountains of Southern Virginia," writes fletcher6531 about Salthouse Branch, though they caution about the "very narrow and steep up and downs" on the access roads.

    What you should know

No alcohol allowed: Several Corps of Engineers managed sites near Martinsville prohibit alcohol. "The police visited us bc we were drinking outside of our camper. He was very nice and explained no alcohol allowed. This is clearly stated and we were in the wrong," reports Anne F. about her experience at Salthouse Branch.

Limited cell service: Connectivity can be spotty throughout the region. "Note that there is not great cell service in this area," mentions Katie M. about their stay at Fairy Stone State Park, where they enjoyed the rustic experience despite the communication limitations.

Reservation requirements: Peak seasons fill quickly at popular campgrounds. "Reservations have to be made well in advance for the lower loop," advises Timothy W. about Goose Point's waterfront sites, adding that "lots of rain was in the forecast so several people cancelled their reservations allowing us to get one of the best spots."
