Dead Horse Point State Park encompasses Kayenta Campground, a 56-site establishment that sits at 5,900 feet elevation overlooking the Colorado River canyon. The campground operates two loops—Kayenta and Wingate—with paved driveways leading to mostly level sites equipped with electric hookups, water access, and sewer connections for RVs.
Each site includes a concrete pad with sheltered picnic table, fire ring, and lockable storage cabinet. "The fire pit and grill were totally clean," notes Pat S., highlighting the maintenance standards camp hosts maintain throughout the facility. Back-in sites occupy the inside of each loop while pull-through sites line the exterior. Walk-in tent sites and nine yurts provide additional accommodation options.
The exposed plateau location offers expansive views toward the La Sal Mountains but provides no natural shade from sun or wind. Ravens actively scavenge throughout the day, requiring campers to secure all food and gear in the provided storage cabinets. Eight individual restroom facilities serve each loop, featuring toilets, sinks, and hand dryers, though reviews note the automatic flush systems sometimes require multiple attempts.
Hiking trails connect directly from campsites to rim overlooks, with west and east rim routes combining for approximately five miles of walking. Designated mountain biking trails wind through the area, while Wingate Campground — Dead Horse Point State Park sits within walking distance for additional site options. The elevation and clear desert skies create optimal conditions for stargazing after dark.
Reservations fill quickly during peak seasons, particularly given the campground's proximity to both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. The location serves as a base for exploring camping near Moab while maintaining distance from town crowds.

A camping unit is one tent, one trailer, or one camper—not a combination or multiples of the above. A camper is defined as an RV, conversion van, vehicle with rooftop tent, or any vehicle that is slept in. Only one vehicle is allowed per campsite. A vehicle and attached tow equipment is considered one vehicle. Some, but not all, campsites may accommodate an extra vehicle. Only one extra vehicle is allowed per site. Additional fees are required for extra vehicles. For questions regarding extra vehicles, please call Dead Horse Point State Park at 435-259-2614. Tent-only sites are walk-in sites and will not accommodate RVs, trailers, campers, camper vans, or vehicles with rooftop tents. Due to limited parking, no extra vehicles are allowed in the tent-only sites.
